bowers-sfc Posted 6 August, 2012 Share Posted 6 August, 2012 (edited) http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/duo-earn-call-ups-294836.aspx Saints pair Danny Fox and Steven Davis are both included in their respective international squads due to play next week. Full-back Fox has been drafted in by Scotland boss Craig Levein for their friendly match with Australia at Easter Road on Wednesday 15th August. Fox hopes to reignite his international career with his previous involvement coming whilst he was playing for Celtic. Chester-born Danny qualifies to play for Scotland through his grandfather, and his sole appearance to-date for them came in a 3-0 defeat to Wales during 2009. Shortly after receiving his call-up, Fox told Saints Player of his delight at getting back into the fold with the Tartan Army. He said: “I’d put it (international football) to the back of my mind having not been called up for so long, but it’s nice “It’s a compliment to me and a compliment to the staff, the manager and the players that I’m playing with because my form has reflected how we’ve done as a team. “Southampton is my bread-and-butter so that comes before anything else, but this is an honour and is something I want to take with both hands.” Also called up is Northern Ireland captain Davis, who will lead the Ulstermen in Belfast for a friendly against Finland next Wednesday at Windsor Park. The match provides a valuable get together for Michael O’Neill’s squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Russia in Moscow on 7th September. Summer signing Steven made his Saints debut at the weekend, appearing as a second-half substitute in the friendly win over Wolves. Both players will return to Southampton ahead of the new Barclays Premier League season, which begins for Saints on Sunday 19th August away at Manchester City. old_southy Posted 6 August, 2012 Share Posted 6 August, 2012 It's been a while since we have had to bemoan internationals. Well done to Fox, he has worked hard and has also proved that managers just don't look too far from the prem.

The9 Posted 6 August, 2012 Share Posted 6 August, 2012 Scotland and Northern Ireland dont really have a choice though do they. Scotland have managed not to pick him for the entire of a season where he was an integral part of the team mostly leading the Championship, whilst picking Kenny Miller endlessly... which makes you think there's a bit more to it than that. Was the previous left back at Rangers ? Northern Ireland selecting Davis however was a massive un-shock.
