JRM Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 I've just been sent this link for ex-saint Nicky Banger's daughter charity. They are raising money to get her an operation to help her to walk. http://sophiasfootsteps.co.uk/ thought i'd put it on here for others to see / donate. Never sure why he didn't quite make it, always looked promising back in the day. £70k is a big ask to raise. Will donate this evening.

doggface Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 Fantastic cause. Liked Nicky as a player, shame he didn't stay and make more apperances. As a guy he was a neighbor of mine and was happy to spend one on one time with a bit of coaching and came out on a Sunday morning to watch me for my school team. Can't imagine many premier league footballers doing that these days. Good luck Nicky & fam.
DJ_TOAST Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 Liked Nicky Banger, was really quick and nippy if I recall. Think I requested he sign my birthday card that you get sent as a Junior Saints member too back in the day.

Thought nicky was going to make it big too, didn't he score a 9 minute hatrick v the skates for the reserves?
spyinthesky Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 The family have had a tough time of it lately Not only challenges with Sophia, but Nicky's Father in Law, a massive Saints fan, died suddenly last year and is sorely missed by many, and his Mother in Law has been very poorly lately too. Donate if you can to the cause
egg Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 I work with Nicky's sister (also Nicky, bizarrely) and have met Sophia. She is a fantastic kid who will benefit massively from this operation. Nicky played in the days before players earned mega bucks and isn't in a position to fund this. The family and friends are doing loads themselves to help Sophia but can't do it on their own - please dig deep if you can.

Noodles34 Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 Its lucky that Banger has the profile to have a chance of raising the money, which I cant blame home for. However, you only have to 'Google' "celebral palsy appeals" and find a multitude of good causes, unfortunately for them however, they dont have a 'local hero' to front their appeals. Its all very well donating because it's Nicky Banger, but would you if it wasn't? How about this one? http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/9481540.Rose_Road___s_sparkling_60th/ I'm bunging in £50 next week, because its a good cause, because their kids dont have ex-footballer dads and because I cant write this without backing it up. Fan The Flames Posted 5 August, 2012 Share Posted 5 August, 2012 My friends son had the operation last year and the good people of this forum dug deep and sponsored me (again thank you guys). My mate came to visit me a couple of weeks after arriving back and when I opened the door and saw his son walking from the car (with splints and holding his dads hand) with a big beaming smile, I cried it was so amazing. So I shall be chipping in.
Toomer Posted 26 October, 2012 Share Posted 26 October, 2012 (edited) Just to bring you up to speed Sophia has had both her operations in America and is undergoing physio and she is doing well. From what I understand Nicky and his wife Steph intend to keep the Sophiasfootsteps charity going so that money raised can be used to help other children Edited 26 October, 2012 by Toomer

Sophia has been wiggling her toes for the first time in years which suggests that the surgery has been successful. She has a long journey ahead but is well on the way to recovery thanks to the generosity of many to include you folks. The family are very grateful for the support.
