Final season ticket holder number =

The website doesn't actually say they are sold though does it?

Is block 7 really sold out or just never available? Genuine question. If its sold out must be some contributors to this forum that either have one or tried and failed to get one as it's a popular part of the ground.

Hey MLG you're a dude with your finger on the pulse of informations and whatever, how many season tickets was we selling when we was last in the Premier League? I'm interested to learn if our years in the wilderness cost us fans!

They were all listed as available to buy apart from three seats in the entire stadium which were labelled "locked by".

Block 7 is on the Itchen halfway line, it has the most expensive seats in the stadium apart from the corporate areas. Yes, they sold season tickets there as they are the best view in the stadium. Same with block 31 opposite it.

So not much better, in fact almost exactly the same amount as in 2004/05 when we were crap and had no investment. Disappointing to be honest.

After finding it relatively easy to get tickets for most Championship and League One games for the last 7 years it may change fans will realise how difficult it will be to get tickets in the Premier League and they may be tempted to get a ST for 2013/14.

With only 5,500 to sell to non season ticket holders, games will sell out long in advance of kickoff as they did last time we were in the Premier League.

Plus Turkish, look at it like this...

Saints have more season ticket holders than the capacity of Fratton Park! ;)

What's the price difference (taking account of inflation?)

I'd have thought the club should set the prices to try and sell about 23,000 season tickets given current capacity, and they seem to have done that pretty well.

Shows we've not got a bunch of glory hunting JCL's but honest footballing fans who support the team, not success or investment, great init

2004/5 was on the back of the cup final and Europe the season b4 so we had a good fan base. I think that this is a good marker to be in the similar region and assuming away fans attend we will be 75-80% full with minimal extra tickets sales. I think we can expect do get good averages this year which will increase with success and with Pompey dissapearing down the drain in the coming seasons.

Don't forget season tickets for 2004/05 went on sale from March 2004. At that point the mood at the club was still fairly good. The FA Cup final was still fresh in the memory and we were in mid-table with an outside chance of making the European spots. Had people known what was about to unfold during the summer then I suspect numbers would have been a lot lower.

Yeah, definitely, that's why we had 22,500 ST holders in the previous two seaso... oh.

Dress it up how you want but It still no better than when we were crap and had no investment in the Lowe days. I'm disapointed with that number.

I'd like to thank MLG for taking the time and effort to bring us this information to drive informed debate.

I'm expecting it to be downhill from here. ;)

FWIW the 22.5k is neither impressive nor disappointing with the current economic climate. I have one now and didn't have in 2004/5 but I'm sure for most people it's been a damn sight harder to find the money for it in the past year or so than it was back then.

The price is relatively good. I can't remember what they were in 2005 but I'd guess at around £500 as my season ticket in the Northam first season at SMS in 2001 was £450. £125 increase in 11 years is pretty good, only £11 increase per season. Price isn't the problem by the looks of it.

The almost complete lack of people complaining about prices this year also suggests price isn't the problem - and I'm also guessing that people are pretty used to not being able to afford "luxuries" by now as well.

Were we in a recession from March to July 2004? That is only one year after finishing 8th and reaching the FA Cup final. 2003/04 saw a 12th place finish in the Premier League. We are now newly promoted and have already reached similar levels whilst in a massive global recession!

Back to back promotions are fresh in the memory. Smashing our transfer record for one of Englands mist promising strikers is fresh in the memory. Signing the best young full back in England is fresh in the memory. People claiming this was the best time in their lives to be a Saints fan is freh in the memory. Talk of the champions league and ground expansions are still ringing in our ears. yet we can't sell more season tickets than when we were crap, had no investment and got relegated.

Read in in combination with the rest of my post.

And strangely enough all these things had also happened when we sold out against Bolton in 2004. Something you often point to as a reason why we need a bigger stadium, because we managed this with a crap team and no investment. But the facts you list don't seem to apply here now because we've matched that number despite it only being a year after the cup final. Anyway, we've bored people enough, even me, with this before so I'll leave it at that on that subject. However, It's a disappointing number, however you dress it up.

In fairness, disposable income today is about the same as it was in 2005. (we are still some way from getting back to pre-crash 2008 levels).

So, I'd say this amounts to pretty impressive sales.

Also, being in the top flight for 20+ years generates more year-on-year publicity (and presumably sales) than having climbed out of 3rd division after a 7 year absence.

First season back in Prem and under present economic climate, this is a good number of ST's.

I'm sure Turkish has not got the hard facts to back up his dig at MLG (again), but I feel sure these numbers are higher than our first season in the Championship (i.e. when we were 'crap').

Take away the top 4 clubs, it will be interesting to compare the numbers this year in this economic climate with other clubs in the PL.

How many have Wigan sold for example?

Gonna be very hard for JCL's (and expats who haven't bought one) to attend now though.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ?

For a start VAT is 2.5% higher.

Petrol is now £1.32/litre not 82p/litre. http://www.staveleyhead.co.uk/utilities/petrol-prices/

Utility charges can be seen here, electricity is at 200 instead of 124 on an index based on 1990 costs : http://www.castlecover.co.uk/historic-home-utility-prices/

So that's a huge chunk of money that people had in 2005 that's going into taxation, daily travel and paying essential bills, before even looking at the unemployment figures and the number of people who can actually afford STs even if the prices had been the same.

Plus the average salary fell 3% in real terms from 2010-2011, which isn't exactly in line with similar levels of disposable income either.

MLG how much were season tickets back when we were last in the PL compared to now. That for me is the interesting fact as if we had the same amount as now and then in units sold it will be interesting to see the level of increased revenue. And lets face it selling 22.5K at £400 and then selling 22.5k at £600 is a big difference and shows to me anyway a much higher willingness to support the club at any cost

The thing with the seasons while we've been out of the prem, is that you've been able to get tickets on demand. You didnt need a ST to guarentee tickets apart from maybe 2/3 away games at the end of the season.Quite often I decided on the Friday that I was just going to jump on a train and go to away games and im sure plenty others did the same thing.

I'm not usually one to get involved in the heady world of season ticket debates but, MLG, are you 100% certain that the club have made 100% of seats in each block available for season ticket purchase?

If it's not certain that all seats in every block have been made available then the equation: seats in block - seats still available = season tickets sold might not hold true.

Not having a pop, just trying to determine what we know and what we don't.

No I can't be certain, but that is how it appeared to be. No-one has shown otherwise yet and I may be wrong. The numbers do seem realistic, given it is a similar number to last time in the Premier League. Had it given a number of 27k season ticket holders I could understand the suspicion it might be wrong.

Only 3 seats in the entire stadium were listed as "locked by" and unavailable to purchase. One in block 8 and two in block 24.
