A US photographer who captured the exact moment he was bitten by a potentially fatal snake did not even realise he

had taken the photo until the next day.

 

Mark Laita was taking photos of the black mamba for his latest wildlife photography book Serpentine when the snake

latched onto his leg, New Scientist reports.

 

While black mambas are considered to be one of the 10 most venomous land snakes in the world, Mr Laita had a lucky

escape when he only suffered a "dry bite" where the venom was not actually injected.

 

Mr Laita said he did not realise he had taken the photo of the snake hanging off his leg until he was looking through

photos the following day.

 

"It all happened so fast," he said.
