Theo to Saints?!

I'm not assuming anything, it's well documented that he's demanding £100k a week. I doubt he's weighing up his options and thinking "I either want £100k at a top club, or less than half that and a good area for me to maybe start a family in".

And let's face it, if he IS thinking about starting a family then the best thing he could do for his kids is earn as much as possible so they can get the best education etc.

What price do you put on happiness? It's not like he'll be struggling to get by on the wages Saints are offering. And as we've been told many times before this area has a lot to offering a young footballer which has a value which far exceeds an extra 0 on your bank balance.

Surely as a mod you must have realised by now he's being facetious as usual? yet you respond to him as though its a serious point. Hence why the board is just a troll fest.

Timmy, you really need to let this bitterness go. I've said on other threads that I've taken on board what people have said will now only be making serious points on here. If you check my post history in the last few days I've also politely asked other people to stop trolling. As for your 'as usual' remark, I've already started one very positive thread this weekend so I take umbrage with this comment and find this actually quite offensive.

I would prefer £25k a week and live in stunning southampton than 100k and live in that dump London

So would I. So that is two people already who would prefer quality of life over quality of bank balance. What's to say Theo would be any different.

If an enquiry has been made, then I think we can take it as read that we are prepared to meet the valuation and the player's wage demands. Why would we even bother otherwise? Even if we manage to get him down from the 100K stated figure, can't see anyone else at the club earning anything like him.

I have my doubts that it'll go through, largely because of the relative difference between us and the other clubs who are reportedly interested in him. It's also a step back from Walcott's perspective.

I hope we do sign him. I like him as a player, and if we can manage to land Walcott, other big names become available. Massive statement of intent.

It's just not logical to me that we'd be willing to throw this kind of money around for another forward when we've been scratching to find much-needed quality at the centre of our defence. Yes, Theo's a damn good player but would he improve our chances of success more than a quality central defender?

I really don't understand this type of comment. Why does getting a striker/midfield or whatever Theo actually is have any bearing on getting new CB(s) in? As far as I know its not an either/or situation. How many more times does it have to be repeated that Adkins has said he is still planning on bringing in more defenders?

It makes me have a little chuckle to myself as to how many of our lot seems to think a Person who can run fast is a faaannntastic player. And that is about all Theo does, put him in a average Prem team and he will go missing !

Never heard so much nonsense.

The bloke single-handedly turned around our performance against Sweden.

The guy has speed and vision, and an exceptional touch.

Played regularly in the right position he would be an England pick every game.

Last year: 46 games, 11 goals and 13 assists, playing the best teams in Europe (and coming back from injury). Yes, clearly just Usain Bolt with in football boots. Feckwit.

Really? I would prefer 100k per week and live in my pick of Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Fulham, Park Lane, Notting Hill, Highgate... Some people need to get out of the sticks a bit more. I love Southampton but if you think it has 10% of the attraction of Central London, you're probably married to your sister...

I'm not suggesting it's an either/or situation, but that it's not the main priority for us. Especially if we announce to the world that we might have fifteen million up our sleeves as well as a willingness to pay big, big wages. The sooner the club stops talking about bringing in a quality central defender or two and actually does it, I'll feel a lot happier. The ones mentioned so far have been somewhat underwhelming, which is why the (apparent) willingness to go for the extremely expensive Theo is all the more surprising.

Not everyone wants the glitz and glamour of trendy nightclubs, michelen star restaurants, some of the best clothes shops in Europe in one of the worlds greatest cities you know.

Two things:

1. You don't know what's going on behind the scenes. For all you know we could be in talks with 6 or 7 potential signings at CB. If we start the season in 3 weeks without another centre half, THEN we have a problem.

2. WE ARE NOT apparently willing to go for Walcott. It's some horse sh*t news article which doesn't deserve any credence what-so-ever. If we sign Walcott I will skip around Fratton Park in my Saints top with my knob out.

Of course we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I said that those mentioned so far have been somewhat underwhelming, and that any suggestion that we have this kind of money to spend won't help us get someone worth having.

I also think the rumour is bullsh*t and I only used the word "apparently" because MLG said that the journalist in question has solid credentials and good links with Arsenal, and because some folks on here seem to think it might be a goer. IMO the sooner we deny it, whether its true or not, the better.

And there's enough reasons to avoid Fratton Park without you adding to the list. ;)

We won't sign Walcott, but it wouldn't surprise me if Cortese made enquiries.

It's just a bullsh!t article aimed at getting Arsenal fans' in a huff. The fact that us nicking one of their players is even being mentioned in the press will get their blood pressure up. They are not happy with the lack of investment at the moment.

No, but London can offer: tea at the Ritz, HR Owen, the boat show, the Barbican, The Natural History Museum, British Museum, V&A, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy, Somerset House, Imperial War Museum, Science Museum, cycling around the Olympic velodrome, Hyde Park, St. James's Park, Green Park, Regent's Park, Wansdworth Common, Wimbledon Common, Clapham Common, House of Commons on a summer's day, Thames Riverside, camping trips to St Paul's or Parliament Square, a direct train to Disneyworld and London Zoo... and that's without a mention of the glitz and glamour of trendy nightclubs, michelen star restaurants, some of the best clothes shops in Europe in one of the world's greatest cities you know... ;)

I know it's all tongue in cheek London really is my favourite city on the world, but, I can't stand it really - I can't wait to leave every day to get home to the Hampshire countryside, it's far too much, but then, I'm not 23 anymore!

When we finish 2nd again this season and qualify for the CL, then maybe we can sign Theo. The problem is that by then Fratton Park will be an affordable housing development so I may have to renege on my promise.

It would be an excellent year if all five of these things happened.

Obviously this deal is a complete long-shot, but he is a Liverpool fan so he'll probably end up there. I don't think we'd want to pay nearly as much as other clubs would to get him, but he may be slightly tempted by the fact that he has this connection to us and the city, we're a growing and ambitious team with a fantastic manager and chairman and we could be competing towards getting into Europe within the next 3-5 years. Like somebody said above, NC probably has a pot with which to provide signings of this magnitude and he could be tempted to dip into it for the right player (i.e. Theo).

Just imagine a front 3 of Lallana-Lambert-Walcott though!

Not a great idea, I'd suggest. Tesco's security staff take a dim view of that sort of behaviour...

I'm lucky that I can work there pretty much when it suits. But on Friday, having a coffee in a cracking little Patisserie in Greek Street, followed by lunch nearby, then a meeting on Pall Mall (finding out that the building was being shared with the Slovak Olympic Committee) and seeing all the incredible branding, volunteers, ambassadors and events for 2012, I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else in the world. I was born and raised in Hampshire. I love the county. But it's sleepy. London is alive and makes you feel that way.... "A man who is tired of London, is tired of life..."

Every city in the world has shi tty areas you are are advised to avoid. But wander around 95% of London - ie. from the middle outwards and you'll be fine.

I lived there for 5 years, so glad I escaped. Of course there are nice areas but you are never to far from some scumbag ridded hole.

I think someone should put you in charge of tourism.

Don't forget that Southampton city centre on a weekend is the perfect palette-cleanser for Theo, who has surely gorged himself senseless on culture and bohemia by now. He might relish the opportunity to return to a "back to basics" night life featuring a set menu of f*cking and fighting!

Comparing London to Southampton does not make sense as you cannot possibly compare what in my opinion is the world's capital with one that if anything is simply it's natural marina/port.

Make no mistake, I think So'ton is a great place, in fact it was down to more than just the uni when I decided to come here to study, but just like londoners are happy to have their boats here, we should be happy to have such a great city only 1h30 away.

Firstly, as much as I don't think Theo will come here, it isn't as far-fetched as people make out. He's unhappy at Arsenal, wants £ and doesn't like how club keeps selling players. Arsenal are a club on the decline with no ambition (Wenger said it himself) whereas he enjoyed his time with us, we have money and rakes of ambition.

Secondly, some people on twitter, and probably on here are saying they wouldn't want Theo to return (despite him being far better than any player we currently have), but would like us to sign Bellamy!? Clueless

We are much much much much smaller than arsenal. Arsenal may perhaps be on a slight decline but that's totally irrelevant really

Theo back at Saints - well one thing - here he would be the star of the team - our megastar for sure - In Arseal he´s just another guy in the team since they are loaded with megastars. But still think this is bull - but with a nice fat signing on bonus wages doesn´t need to be that high?

Nice post that got more bites than it deserved.

You fail to point out that after a few months the extra dosh would enable you buy as many cream tea shops, cars, boats, gates, museum life-time memberships, bicycles, caravans, tents and cuddly anmials as you could wish for.

Me? I'd go for a couple of years at 5 million a year, and buy myself a chauffeur to commute if i felt forced to live in the New Forest

What's the point in comparing to the past? All that matters is the present. Or should we moan about Lallana because he's sh1t compared to Le Tissier?

No, just highlighting where Arsenal's reference points probably are in terms of quality forwards.
