dubai_phil Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 Makes the old Adam Johnson rumour seem suddenly a lot more plausible! I wonder if that's the plan, like when I'm at Hollywood parties and I hit on Jessica Alba so that my real target, Miley Cyrus or whoever thinks we're in the same leagues! Ah, so it WAS you I saw there last week. How was Miley?
lordswoodsaints Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 Walcott is head and shoulders above anything we have here already and to all the loonies who say they wouldn't want him need to think seriously about their football knowledge. For him to come back here would certainly be a step up for us and a step back for him but stranger things have happened, after all personal happiness is probably more his goal these days over money. Well said! There are no words for those that are saying that it is a bad thing. Let's not forget, 2 years ago, Saints were starting in League One, 2 months ago Saints got promoted - to be even linked with a player of that calibre is extremely flattering, although complete madness as I sincerely doubt it will happen. CB Fry Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 Normally journalists don't put their names to such seemingly outrageous stories and it is labelled "sportswriter" or something similar. This one was written by Matt Law the Chief football writer for the Sunday Mirror. Odd for a senior journalist to just make up and potentially look stupid for believing there was even an outside chance of it being true. The "by sports writer" thing is not always about people not wanting to put their name to a rumour. It is often because the story has come from the Press Association, or another similar agency. This article is very likely to be agent driven planted rumour, one round in the chess game of getting Theo a new contract/move elsewhere. We'll see. S-Clarke Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 This is one of those bizarre rumours that has no substance, apart from the fact he used to play for us and is fast. And we're looking to sign quick player. 2+2 = 25252525 We won't sign him, and I'd be surprised if we even enquired as it would have been obvious before that he's well out of our range. James Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 Ridiculous rumour, not sure he's worth the kind of cash being quoted. But of all the 'big names' we could sign I don't think Theo would upset the harmony too much given that he's been here before. Would definitely give us what we need on the right hand side of our front three though. Having said all that, won't in a million years happen. Of course this isn't going to happen, but it was fun reading it this morning.Even a season long loan would be out the question, he's too valuable a player for Arsenal. Or... the story was planted by Saints to send a shot across PSV's bows re: Lens? I.e. "if you don't accept our £n mil bid we'll look elsewhere"...? I assume they both play in similar roles? (p.s. I've not been keeping up with the situation re: the Lens bid the last few days so this could be a poor theory on several levels) Edited 29 July, 2012 by trousers

Joesaint Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 Please, please, please. Theo would be a really, really good. He also has an option in the front 3 of switching to striker as NA clearley favours this sort of movement. We must get back to this dell sized mentality Turkish. After all we have spent approx 10 million in this window and how does that compare to our previous premiership seasons considering how long ago and the rise in football finances. I would say as things stand we have not even matched lowes spending taking that into account
RobM Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 As unlikely as it seems, I'd love to see Theo back. I also think he'd thrive in our squad and seems the right sort of attitude and personality to fit in well. The only worrying aspect would be how much higher is wages would be than all others, which is bound to have a negative impact somewhere down the line. But purely on footballing terms, he'd fit in extremely well and suit us perfectly. I can't see it happening, but stranger things have. When starting L1 on -10, how realistic did billionaire owners and Prem football seem in this timeframe? That needed investment (transfers and behind the scenes) that make this transfer rumour look cheap.

Everyone is assuming that we can't afford his wages as well. Players dont just move for money. His girlfriend is from here, he was happy here. Maybe they want to be close to their parents and are thinking of starting a family? What better place than to live in Midanbury near her parents and be in the Glenfield infants school catchment area. Who wouldnt want to take a stroll down riverside park with the family to relax on a Sunday? It isn't all about money you know. This is why. People assume its all about money. I'm not assuming anything, it's well documented that he's demanding £100k a week. Saint Fan CaM Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 Theo coming back would be fantastic, but let's face facts - it's not going to happen in a million years unless NC has some magic wand (and a huge wadge of cash) up his sleeve. In monetary terms I could only imagine this happening (if there were any legs in this story), was if there was a pot of money put by to push us on to the 'next level' if we stay up this season and NC considers the possible availability of Theo (as an ex-Academy graduate) this season as a good enough excuse to raid that pot. CanadaSaint Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 It's just not logical to me that we'd be willing to throw this kind of money around for another forward when we've been scratching to find much-needed quality at the centre of our defence. Yes, Theo's a damn good player but would he improve our chances of success more than a quality central defender?
