Apparently we've brought out new technology just for this games to give us another advantage. Its a bit weird when anything less than 8 golds will be deemed as a slight failure, but our cycling squad really is quite breathtaking.

The Kraken Posted 2 August, 2012 Share Posted 2 August, 2012 With Pendleton and her mate disqualified can we do it? China háve now lost the gold for the same thing 8 golds was probably something we won't repeat. We should still get at least 3 or 4 but it seems as if other countries have caught up a bit, and we're no longer the favourites in some events we won in Beijing. Stupid rule that, and as its caught out the top 2 teams here plus teams in the World Championships they really need to revisit it. Hopefully Sir Chris and his boys can make up for it shortly, going to be very close though.

badgerx16 Posted 2 August, 2012 Share Posted 2 August, 2012 Take that Fritz Hindes is dual nationality - German & British. Up to 2010 he was riding for Germany and needed the IOC to waive the qualification by residence rules so that he could ride for GB 2 years earlier than he would otherwise be able. How many of the track events are won by multiple people? There aren't that many track events anyway compared to the swimming. Not to say I don't enjoy it though. doubleonothing Posted 2 August, 2012 Share Posted 2 August, 2012 So just back from the beach volleyball. Good evening out. Atmosphere was great. They've got the voice over guy from Chris Moyles Quiz Night/x factor who Works the crowd really well. The British women's pair came out and the place erupted. And they weren't too shabby. Even at 2230 they were in bikinis. Their Austrian Opponents had t-shirts on which was disappointing. Brits got knocked out but their bending over in front of us was good. And the games were good as well. Between match entertainment was a bunch of birds in bikinis dancing around. Took some pictures so will upload them if I can work out how. On the whole it was a good event. (and for those on troop watch, they seemed to be enjoying it as well)

Thedelldays Posted 3 August, 2012 Author Share Posted 3 August, 2012 Same could be said of the track events. I think it's great to be honest. It nothing like the track events. Even the track cycling, they will do two different events Track Athletics... 2 events or may be 3 at a push with a relay Lochte, phelps, franklin and others that do freestyle. All enter god knows how many events. Swimming seems to favour heavily the freestyle side of swimming 100, 200 Freestyle, medley, butterfly, backstroke Throw in the relays It is something when they get less than 10 mins between medal events. I now it shows they are very good but it also highlights the mental amount of races there are

On the whole it was a good event. (and for those on troop watch, they seemed to be enjoying it as well) Considering the climate they live in (bloody hot summers, bloody cold winters), Austrians have no physical robustness against temperature, wind or humidity whatsoever. When its cold they put 20 layers on, when its hot they prance around naked and still whine. And dont get me started on when there is a bit of breeze (even if just from slightly hard-blowin car air-conditioning), and the immediate outbreak of severe sort throats. If those Austrian beach volleyballers hadnt worn t-shirts last night, they'd be blocking up NHS hospital beds today with chronic pneumonia. I remember once in late spring sat with my wife at an outside cafe, and every time the sun went behind a cloud, she whined and put her cardigan on, and as soon as the sun came out again she whined and took it off. F**king pathetic. They dont get it when my son comes to early spring football training wearing shorts, FFS.
tpbury Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 From an Oz perspective, we're being treated to archery. What the F are they using to fire the arrows, not something the guys at Agincourt would recognise! I have fallen in love with the Dutch heptathelete. But only coz she is pretty, I am not getting off on the bodies of the skinny female atheletes - not even the beach volley ballers. Need a bit more meat, if you ask me. alpine_saint Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 Oh, just great. There is now a stink wafting out of the velodrome about the yesterday's men's Team Sprint result too.. Is it me, or has the rest of the cycling world got Team GB in its cross-hairs ? They know we are miles ahead in cycling, so are looking for every single nuance to protest. Yes, Hindes allegedly deliberate crash sounds a bit unsporting, but not being a close follower of track cycling I would expect it happens reasonably often. alpine_saint Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 isn't there a no protest rule in track cycling.. the authorities have awarded the prize etc Well, I know there are no appeals, so it makes sense there is no direct formal protests. But someone is bringing this and Pendletons illegal changeover to the officials attention. Why have they just made some sort of statement about Hindes ?
