First time tonight I have agreed with you...not as if we are short of bands/music in this country

to have to listen to that 1D again FFS

I think they probably don't won't to ruin the 'Symphony of British Music' or whatever it is later on.

It's ok Spice Girls will be on soon

Thing is though I can totally understand them being on here. Known throughout the world and proudly British. Some oddness going on again. I like the arts but this is what happens when creative types get too much control. It becomes an odd interpretive mess...

Aaahh, Kate Bush!

Actually this bit's not too bad..

Really? It's back to that obsession that opening ceremonies have with people in weird costumes making ambiguous shapes and writhing about.

Sorry, should have been clearer, I did mean in the context of what had gone before.

Mate who is there (who is in the ceremony) just said that the sound is immense with this Kate bush song.

Its a shame you need the acoustics to appreciate it. Apparently the acoustics for the opening ceremony were unbelievable too, but the whole spectacle came across on TV so well. This, well, hasn't. It's been poorly thought out and poorly executed.

What about it makes it embarrassingly bad?!

It's tacky, slap on the back, insular tacky nonsense.

The opening ceremony was a celebration of Britishness that was self-deprecating, humourous and classy. This has been quite weird, awkward, poorly executed (some terrible live singing) and just overall naff.

Hopefully it'll get better with the athletes in there and less scope for acrobatical f*ckaboutery.

I dunno. I think so far it has been quite nice. The closing ceremony is never as spectacular as the opening ceremony and from what has been said is more formal. Let's wait it out until the formal part has been completed.

...this is generally okay but it is very, very inward looking. I love yer Pet Shop Boys but come on, it won't play well in Kansas and Kiev.

If Lennon and Mercury appear on stage I'll take it all back.

This bit is pretty w*nk sentimental nonsense that the US love TBH.

I bet there are yanks right now asking why we were celebrating one of theirs... I kid you not, have met one once who was adamant Lennon was a yank

Just had a funny image of them seeing John's face and causing an uprising that overthrows communism. Powerful stuff.

Queen was the semi-official anthem of CCTV, the Chinese state broadcaster during the games.

Matter of opinion I suppose. Still at least he's not Robbie bloody Williams

Trying to distance myself from whether I actually like the band and just focussing on the songs and performances. Pretty much impossible with 1 direction though. Bit of a cr*p song choice for Georgey now though...
