CB Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Six of us sad enough to be on here at the same time... Soon to be five if they don't get a shift on
shurlock Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This is like pre-match at SMS, waiting for a p i$$.
Saintandy666 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 First time tonight I have agreed with you...not as if we are short of bands/music in this country to have to listen to that 1D again FFS I think they probably don't won't to ruin the 'Symphony of British Music' or whatever it is later on.
Jonnyboy Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Never have so many steroids been concentrated in one place at one time.
dubai_phil Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 It's ok Spice Girls will be on soon Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 'Now That's What I Call Olympic Closing Ceremonies #37'
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 It's ok Spice Girls will be on soon Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 Thing is though I can totally understand them being on here. Known throughout the world and proudly British. Some oddness going on again. I like the arts but this is what happens when creative types get too much control. It becomes an odd interpretive mess...
Jonnyboy Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This is like pre-match at SMS, waiting for a p i$$. Edit - ah.
Pugwash Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Aaahh, Kate Bush! Actually this bit's not too bad..
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Aaahh, Kate Bush! Actually this bit's not too bad.. Really? It's back to that obsession that opening ceremonies have with people in weird costumes making ambiguous shapes and writhing about.
The Kraken Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This is, quite frankly, f*cking embarrassingly bad.
Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2012 Author Posted 12 August, 2012 Mate who is there (who is in the ceremony) just said that the sound is immense with this Kate bush song.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This is, quite frankly, f*cking embarrassingly bad. Thank goodness it is at the end of an event that has massively surpassed what I thought it would be.
Pugwash Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Really? It's back to that obsession that opening ceremonies have with people in weird costumes making ambiguous shapes and writhing about. Sorry, should have been clearer, I did mean in the context of what had gone before.
Ken Tone Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 'Now That's What I Call Olympic Closing Ceremonies #37' Think I've got that on cassette!
The Kraken Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Mate who is there (who is in the ceremony) just said that the sound is immense with this Kate bush song. Its a shame you need the acoustics to appreciate it. Apparently the acoustics for the opening ceremony were unbelievable too, but the whole spectacle came across on TV so well. This, well, hasn't. It's been poorly thought out and poorly executed.
Saintandy666 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This is, quite frankly, f*cking embarrassingly bad. What about it makes it embarrassingly bad?!
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Mate who is there (who is in the ceremony) just said that the sound is immense with this Kate bush song. What do you mean? Sound from the stage> Or the crowd?
Pugwash Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Someone needs to teach Trevor MacDonald how to pass a bouquet...
Ken Tone Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Quite a moment for the ugandan marathon winner though. That's the way to get your medal!
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Someone needs to teach Trevor MacDonald how to pass a bouquet... LOL my wife and daughter just said the same thing
dubai_phil Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Hope Piers Morgan has moan bout Ugandan not singing Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Quite a moment for the ugandan marathon winner though. That's the way to get your medal! Yeah and their anthem is pretty cool. Lets see what this bit is like in a minute.
The Kraken Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 What about it makes it embarrassingly bad?! It's tacky, slap on the back, insular tacky nonsense. The opening ceremony was a celebration of Britishness that was self-deprecating, humourous and classy. This has been quite weird, awkward, poorly executed (some terrible live singing) and just overall naff. Hopefully it'll get better with the athletes in there and less scope for acrobatical f*ckaboutery.

The closing ceremony is never as spectacular as the opening ceremony and from what has been said is more formal. Let's wait it out until the formal part has been completed.
CB Fry Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 (edited) ...this is generally okay but it is very, very inward looking. I love yer Pet Shop Boys but come on, it won't play well in Kansas and Kiev. Edited 12 August, 2012 by CB Fry

If Lennon and Mercury appear on stage I'll take it all back.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 We do have some bands other than the Beatles you know! Some stones, Led Zepplin maybe?
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 If Lennon and Mercury appear on stage I'll take it all back. Or Gary Glitter.
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 If Lennon and Mercury appear on stage I'll take it all back. Both still writing music ....decomposing
Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2012 Author Posted 12 August, 2012 If Lennon and Mercury appear on stage I'll take it all back. They just made his face..... So Lol
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This bit is pretty w*nk sentimental nonsense that the US love TBH.
Colinjb Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Wonder if they are televising this in North Korea/China.
Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2012 Author Posted 12 August, 2012 This bit is pretty w*nk sentimental nonsense that the US love TBH. I bet there are yanks right now asking why we were celebrating one of theirs... I kid you not, have met one once who was adamant Lennon was a yank
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Wonder if they are televising this in North Korea/China. Just had a funny image of them seeing John's face and causing an uprising that overthrows communism. Powerful stuff.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 George bloody Michael. Oh well. Not bad TBH and at least is well known. At least he doesn't show his age as much as some of them.
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Not bad TBH and at least is well known. At least he doesn't show his age as much as some of them. Just as well they dont drug test the perfomers with George on now
shurlock Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Just had a funny image of them seeing John's face and causing an uprising that overthrows communism. Powerful stuff. Queen was the semi-official anthem of CCTV, the Chinese state broadcaster during the games.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Just as well they dont drug test the perfomers with George on now Good point. George was decent though, quite enjoyed that.
dubai_phil Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 & we'be still got Paul McCartney on the bench Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I take it back. George doing some weird writhing dancing.
Ken Tone Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Good point. George was decent though, quite enjoyed that. Matter of opinion I suppose. Still at least he's not Robbie bloody Williams
Crab Lungs Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 The conspiracy theorists will be going nuts over all this illuminati/pagan/ritualistic stuff, lol.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Matter of opinion I suppose. Still at least he's not Robbie bloody Williams Trying to distance myself from whether I actually like the band and just focussing on the songs and performances. Pretty much impossible with 1 direction though. Bit of a cr*p song choice for Georgey now though...
