hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Hmm. Sort of how I feared the opening ceremony would be. Not a good start IMO and a bit amateurish.
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I don't really get it... Are you going to be this dim all night? Its a representation of London life
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Hmm. Sort of how I feared the opening ceremony would be. Not a good start IMO and a bit amateurish. Then turn over and watch something else FFS no-one is making you watch it
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Are you going to be this dim all night? Its a representation of London life Why the confrontational attitude? I didn't see the need for a load of people dressed in newspaper with that odd music and then Churchill shouting stop. All a bit weird.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Then turn over and watch something else FFS no-one is making you watch it I was hugely complementary of the opening ceremony. It was fantastic. SO FAR (key words) this hasn't been as good. No need for that.
dubai_phil Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Army playing Blur yep might work Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
aintforever Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I guess they blew the budget on the opening ceremony.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Army playing Blur yep might work Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 Yeah that wasn't bad. Definitely the oddest ceremony I have seen so far! Not typically London at any rate...
JackFrost Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Christ, are all they going to do is dig up celebrities all night? Apparently we've got the Spice Girls to come yet
Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2012 Author Posted 12 August, 2012 The opening ceremony is impossible to top. But this is not that good thus far And 1 direction. Just fuk off
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 The opening ceremony is impossible to top. But this is not that good thus far And 1 direction. Just fuk off Stomp aren't bad but I went to see it once and there is only so much of that sort of thing you can take. Hoping it will get better to evoke similar feelings to the opening ceremony... edit: What is with all these cacophony of noise sequences?
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Would be amazing if Alan Partridge stepped out of a taxi.
Ken Tone Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Bit odd Prince Harry being the most senior royal isn't it? Are the others parachuting agan?!
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 The opening ceremony is impossible to top. But this is not that good thus far And 1 direction. Just fuk off Hahaha Elizabeth Windsor @Queen_UK There's only One Direction one wants to see these little girls heading and that's the exit. #closingceremony
dubai_phil Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Well to match thread moaners I'be got 8 foreigners here for our closing party who are loving the whole weird stoned britishness of this Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Hahaha Elizabeth Windsor @Queen_UK There's only One Direction one wants to see these little girls heading and that's the exit. #closingceremony Haha. In fairness maybe this sort of thing isn't aimed at me. I mean this sort of stuff appeals to those people that like Britains Got Talent etc. Maybe this is the side of Britain that many people like and I'm not supposed to like it...
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Well to match thread moaners I'be got 8 foreigners here for our closing party who are loving the whole weird stoned britishness of this Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 I'm pleased! I'm sure lots of people like it, just calling things as I see it. I hope the Who are good later.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 So far it's like a tribute night at Pontins. On a Tuesday. In February. On a rainy night.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 And who the hell is this awful wailer on now?
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Just sit back and relax you seem to be looking for some deep Danny Boyle meaning - it for me is just a celebration of self indulgance of Britishness past and present music wise
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 So far it's like a tribute night at Pontins. On a Tuesday. In February. On a rainy night. Glad I'm not the only one (And I was getting abuse towards the beginning!) This bit is a bit cheesy and American. Ah well, maybe a tribute to rock would be good later. Hmm.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 And who the hell is this awful wailer on now? Never heard of her. My girlfriend has though so she probably is quite well known. So glad we had a genius like Boyle doing the opening ceremony.
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 So far it's like a tribute night at Pontins. On a Tuesday. In February. On a rainy night. Its Ok we have Spice Girls miming later to look forward to ;-)
Pugwash Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 edit: What is with all these cacophony of noise sequences? "Day in the Life" from Sergeant Pepper's. Who's the bint in the green? Great voice but awful song.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Its Ok we have Spice Girls miming later to look forward to ;-) Where's Vera Lynn when her country needs her?
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 "Day in the Life" from Sergeant Pepper's. Who's the bint in the green? Great voice but awful song. Gotcha. Cheers for clearing it up.
JackFrost Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Glad I'm not the only one (And I was getting abuse towards the beginning!) This bit is a bit cheesy and American. Ah well, maybe a tribute to rock would be good later. Hmm. First half hour has been dire. "run out of ideas" springs to my mind. This flag bit looks more promising though
aintforever Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 To those of you who criticised the opening ceremony, this is what we could have had.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 To those of you who criticised the opening ceremony, this is what we could have had. This is exactly what I thought the opening ceremony would be like. I'm relieved haha in many ways the closing ceremony doesn't really matter.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Having said that, this bit looks alright.
shurlock Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Madness, pet shop boys, george michael FFS...admittedly, the last few weeks have featured lots of ethiopians but its 2012, not 1984 and Band Aid.
dubai_phil Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Elbow as athletes enter. Genius Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
CB Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Well if the world suspected that us Brits were a little eccentric after the opening ceremony, then this will leave them in no doubt
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I quite like elbow. Getting slightly better now...
Ken Tone Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Suits with shorts and bowler hats with light bulbs on top. What's eccentric about that?
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Suits with shorts and bowler hats with light bulbs on top. What's eccentric about that? And clothes made out of newspaper. Was that actually Nicholas Lyndhurst and David Jason in the costumes?
aintforever Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 They better hurry up before Elbow runs out of decent songs.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 All gone a bit disorganised and pub karaoke again...
Ken Tone Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 And clothes made out of newspaper. Was that actually Nicholas Lyndhurst and David Jason in the costumes? Think it was the queen and Daniel Craig
Saintandy666 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 All gone a bit disorganised and pub karaoke again... Not particularly. Bringing the athletes on is always like this. It takes a long time.
aintforever Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Elbow was rescuing it now they've stuck a compilation CD on.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Not particularly. Bringing the athletes on is always like this. It takes a long time. I disagree. Could have used some other music anyway rather than the same thing.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Elbow was rescuing it now they've stuck a compilation CD on. Yep. They were the highlight so far.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Just the six of us watching it? Six of us sad enough to be on here at the same time...
aintforever Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 All the music Britain has created and we've had to sit through Pet Shop Boys - twice!
Give it to Ron Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I disagree. Could have used some other music anyway rather than the same thing. First time tonight I have agreed with you...not as if we are short of bands/music in this country to have to listen to that 1D again FFS
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 All the music Britain has created and we've had to sit through Pet Shop Boys - twice! 1 direction is infinitely worse. Worlds most awful lyrics.
