A great montage of quotes from the Olympics

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19226072

Poetically I liked Boris's about the Beach volleyball.

But this one, well sorry but I'm still ROFLING (in very bad taste) at every possible permutation of this one

Jane Dujardin after watching daughter Charlotte win gold for Great Britain in the dressage:

"She could make a donkey do anything."

What a drama in the mens volleyball final between Russia and Brazil! Brazil were 2 sets up with two separate match balls in the 3rd set, but then 2.18m Muserskiy (http://www.london2012.com/athlete/muserskiy-dmitriy-1013464/) takes over the game. Russia go on to claim the set and the next two sets too winning the final after 170 minutes of volleyball. Legendary...

Alpine with another failed prediction. Have a look back at your posts on this thread, you have made yourself, once again, look like an absolute idiot with no perspective or knowledge of sport at any level.

Anyway, I'll be gutted to see this end. It's been a great 2 weeks, I've watched sport that I never thought I'd watch! I think Team GB have been stunning, some of the gold victories have been pure theatre - last Saturday being one, an amazing day.

Will be sad to see it finish, let's hope it closes as spectacularly as it opened.

Just before the footballers score three times to lead 3-1...

I see the footballers are honouríng us with their sense of sporting spirit and winning desire, yet again...........

All going Pete Tong, isnt it ?

Daley and Waterfield throw their gold away.

Before Our huge gold medal haul:

Why do we as a sporting nation choke so badly ?

Daley and Waterfield

Womens basketball against Canada

Murray's choke is already in the post.

Paula Ratcliffe at previous Olympics

At least Moomintroll gritted her teeth and got her bronze.

Do we not take sports pyschology seriously enough, or are we just pooftahs ?

In response to delldays saying there is "absolutely no way" we will beat our medal haul from four years ago:

This, sadly.

Too many silly mistakes and nervousness.

As I said earlier, we seem to struggle with home-crowd expectations.

Murray and Henman probably would have won Wimbledeon if it have been in the Czech Republic.

Hang on, thats taking it a bit too far...

Before Ainslie wins his fourth gold to become the most successful sailor ever...

Cavendish ?

We do really well when we are underdogs and no-hopers in situations. and its not just sport. Look at WW2, especially the Battle of Britain, Rorke's Drift and Goose Green for extreme examples. The gymnastics team fit this category.

When we are fancied, with high expectations/hopes, we are complete bottle-jobs.

And this morning you can add Ben Ainslie and Paul Simpson to the list of those blowing it, which is even more annoying because they have proven records of success but are bottling it in home territory because of weight of expectation.

Before our sailing success...

Jesus, our own coastline and we really are fluffling the sailing lines.

Ainslie drops further behind and another boat capsizes.

Before our canoe success...

And now our best canoeing hope has buggered up.

Before our most successful equestrian team ever wins a glut of medals:

Traditionally we arent that fantastic at the precision stuff - dressage and show-jumping, but we more than compensate for it with being sh*t-hot at the blood-and-thunder section, cross-country.

Cant see us picking up any more medals in equestrian after this afternoons possibilities in the individual 3DE placings, tbh.

The three day eventers have blown the individual medals. Zara Phillips went clear, but the other two who went clear in the team event completely screwed up.

If Stanning and Glover dont get gold this morning, Team GB might as well go home....

Best medal haul in over a century. Third in the medal table...

It has nothing to do with the efforts of the competitors or teams at all. I think I have a pretty good idea of what some of them go through for their sport.

I am frustrated with what I see as something weak or missing in our national psyche that means we see all sport as a f**king cricket match. With cucumber sandwiches at tea.

We lack the aggression and drive to really be top-of-the-pile, to be the best. We are too wrapped up in the participation thing.

Before all of our other prospects did better than we have ever done before...

The "might as well go home" comment was deserved.

Those girls were so nailed-on to win gold, that if they couldnt have done it and conspired to screw-up, most likely none of our other prospects would have been able to either.

When we hugely outperformed the Germans...

Yes, I see German, Chinese and American nailed-on medal prospects bombing all over these Olympics

No medal for Team GB in womans time-trial.

Apparently it wasnt the right sort of course for the GB best time-trialler, Emma Pooley.

Who the f**ck sets these courses ? Can you imaging the French, Yanks, Chinese or Russians throwing away home advantages by setting crap courses for their athletes ?

This infuriating cricket-match sh*t raises its ugly head - again !!!

Its like this French first announcement b*ll*cks.

Whats wrong with us - is patriotism vulgar, or even worse forbidden in the UK nowadays ?

:) hysterical! Totally condemned by his own reactionary comments.

That's actually quite unbelievable that someone can be so negative. He's got to be a WUM.

Come on you lot... not sure it warrants a a major Alps bash sesh and VFTT the kid comment is probably best edited out maybe? - so Alps reponds 'emotionally' and rapidly - we all do it at times, and perhaps its not such a bad thing to use an anonymous web site to vent your spleen, better place than at home with those that really matter....and lets be really honest for a moment, how many of us have been so overwhelmingly surprized at not only how brilliantly well the athletes have done, but also that the organization and atmosphere has been so amazing?

Have to admit I thought given our history of cock ups whenever Government becomes involved in sport, (WC bids 2006, 2018, 2022 etc) that we were in for a shambles? I know I was worried we might not put our best foot foward to the global audience and I bet Alps is as fricken proud and chuffed at how amazing its been as I am and all the more pleased for his concerns and pessimism being so unfounded - as am I.

German if I recall correctly think his name was Fech or Fock or Fuch. Or maybe that was what he said on the way down. It seems so long ago now

I'd agree with you FC

If only it wasn't on EVERY "sport as it is happening" thread, every week, every month, every year.

It's better to simply leave it alone

Silver in the Women's Modern Pentathlon

And that Ladies and Gentlemen is the final medals to be awarded in London 2012.

Its completely surpassed my expectations. Its been the best sporting two weeks of my entire life. Amazing.

Haha. I was a bit off the money, regarding medals lol

I have absolutely loved the last two weeks. I always thought the games would be great and was not really interested in the moaning bores Who said we should not be hosting it.

This has been the biggest Olympics ever and the most watched/followed

We pulled it off and pulled it off better than anyone ever did

Sure there were a few ticket issues but that was small change really in the grand scheme of things

Team GB have been an absolute credit, they as a whole rose to the challenge and surpassed it. But more importantly, did so on the biggest show in earth and they did it with a smile and were all humble and everyone knew they gave everything to win.

Some of the athletes like Hoy, Farrah have achieved more than any of our footballers will ever achieve. And they did it with massive pride in their shirts.

I really hope football as a whole looks at the affection we have for Team GB and see why they don't get it when they fail to be the best they can time and time again

It's been bloody marvellous.

took my boy to London to soak up some of the atmosphere last week,Hyde park live was truly brilliant.

he has not stopped going on about wanting to be a swimmer, ride his bike, play tennis.

this is what the games is about.

we as a nation need to grasp this and leave a real legacy for the youngsters of this great event.

from the opening cerermony,to the events,to the closing ceremony.....I am proud.

couple of my friends have been gamesmakers, they have done an incredible job.

the atheletes from all nations have given their all it seems to make theses game fantastic.

well done team GB.

But when are they going to set those missiles off? Seems a hell of a shame them sitting on top of that tower block all this time.

Closing ceremony fireworks?

I do like BBC sporting montages. They seem to nail it pretty much everytime.

Fantastic 2 weeks

And we can't forget the volunteers, troops, police and many more who made it possible

Well done Britain. We can be proud.

Well Rio, you are stuffed now arn't you? Don't think people will be impressed with your likely attempt to out do London with a theatrical representation of the deforestation of the amazon amid a large carnival re-enactment of pre olympic slum clearance.

with regards to the closing ceremony...I know the Team GB gold medalist (most of) have filmed miming to Queens "Don't stop me now" and they have got a couple of forces lads in the video too...one of which, is my mate who got me in last week..he can't believe his luck..spent the afternoon with Sir Chris Hoy etc...

not 100% sure if the video will feature in the actual closing ceremony, as that will be decided tomorrow. but they made a few members of the forces honorary members of Team GB.

he said that Chris Hoy and all the athletes that were there was just really lovely people...as down to earth as you can get and all just having a laugh etc

Will see soon enough
