You guys are joking right?

This place is full of Paddies and 2nd generation Paddies most of whom will pay their TV license and be watching the Olympics on the BBC. I'd say there was more interest in Irelands first gold than just another GB gold 8)

Despite the smiley face my Daily Mail hat is back on.........

Thats their choice to live here and pay the TV licence fee to watch our TV, I doubt the fanfare would be reciprocated on RTE to the level it is on the BBC. Ah well that's the generosity of the UK. Thats our Girl that has made history: hey wait a minute that other lot are having a party for their girl, well done Nicola, right let's get in on the Craic.

;)

So, if India win a gold the Beeb will be all over that like a rash too?

Disagree. Most sane people including me care as much about the Irish winning something as much as Belgium. Not in the slightest. The coverage the BBC gave that Irish bird yesterday was nauseating especially as we had our own gold medalist in the same sport on the same effing day.

I've never worked out the level of arse-kissing of the Irish that goes on in the UK.

I don't have a problem with the BBC giving Katie Taylor loads of coverage. My reasoning behind this is that she is a very special talent and deserves to be in the limelight becaue of her continued dominance of her sport.

The BBC give lots of coverage to plenty of other non GB athletes too.

I find this debate about the Beeb being less "Patriotic" to be a real ROFL.

Sometimes you can argue that their coverage is being shown WordWide and they should be more "neutral" in the way footie 'taters (sometimes) are.

But for this Olympics they don't NEED to. There is the OBS. They are supplying the images and providing feed to the rest of the world. They also have their own team of "English Language" Commentators. So down here, while we do have Stuart Storie (sp?) on our Athletics feed we are getting Aussies/Kiwis/Brits/Americans/and hell even someone in the Boxing halls with the strongest Russian Accent I have heard.

The Beeb are broadcasting to the UK. It's OK, you CAN be happy when a Brit wins, stop with the "out of date" Guilt complex.

Jeez in the Equestrian from OBS we've had two of the greatest lines I've ever heard - OMG we've won Gold, followed by blub blub blub and then yesterday, I'm sorry, we're going to take our Cams off and stand up, Sing the Anthem and cry, we'll be back in a few moments....

Down the pub last night people were still talking about that line and saying how it made them well up with tears... (And not ONE of them were a Brit)

You havent seen the news this morning, I take it ?

The Director-General of the BBC has told off the Olympic journalists for being too focused on the Brits and celebrating too much. Only in Britain....

Triggered by whining from US journalists. As clear a case of the pot calling the kettle black as I have ever seen in my life.

Which reminds me... why the f*ck is there a yank doing the announcing in the Olympic Stadium? Didn't realise it until I saw Bolt's medal ceremony and got the hideous Americanised 'Usaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnn BOLT!' introduction.

Thought that too. My only guess is that he is a well known, famous athletics announcer.... Or something

Yeah I saw it hence the comment. So if US Journos are whining that means they are listening to the Beeb 'taters.

One has to ask WHY? Shouldn't they be in the stadiums? Or they sitting in the pub spending expenses and watching on telly

Just FYI how it actually works for us overseas types (Just in case the Canoeing Sprints are a bit Dull for everyone at the moment)

http://www.obs.es/hostbroadcasterrole.html

http://www.obs.es/obslondon2012.html

Have to say they have done a pretty good job. Some of their taters (esp the football) have been on the zzzzzzzzz side of dull, but even the Aussie at the Cycling was giving The Brits the big emotion. But the guy working on the Field Events with Stuart Storey (sp??) is absolutely superb - really knows the technical details of every event and shows us when someone drops a shoulder one millisecond too soon etc

Guess the only "cracking up" bit we seem to have missed over (as seen in the Telegraph) here was Steve Cram as Mo crossed the line in the 10k

I bet the BBC thing is grossly over exaggerated. The Mail has been desperately looking for some reason to bash the BBC all games, but their coverage has been just too excellent and they know it. Love the BBC.

Well, thats a surprise, along side "Bear sh*ts in wood" in terms of its sheer gravity...

The BBC is a creaking, dinosaur institution that has been ruined by left-win apparatchiks and bean-counters. Its a shadow of its former self. Certain departments are still functioning reasonably well, such as sport and wildlife, but the rest of it is turning out biased, PC and dumbed down cack for the welfare/illiterate masses being churned out at the behest of the bleeding-heart hypocritical liberals.

You don't even live in this country. And your argument seems to be because you assumed I'd like the BBC, my opinion is wrong.

Name some individual programmes in the last year which have been biased.

People just need to remember that the BBC is for everyone and so a lot of different programmes will be on. There's plenty of stuff on the BBC I don't like and wouldn't watch, but I know that other people would love. Not everything has to be about me and cater to what I like. That's just selfish. I love the BBC because of the high quality and varied programming it produces.

Does all the Olympics apparently. Remember it's the IOC that sets these things.

Yeah, realise that, just think that if a country is hosting the Olympics, then things like this should be done locally too.

Not that big a deal really, just irked me a bit.

When I was at the stadium I thought he did a great job in keeping us informed.

The host city simply facilitates delivery. The IOC run it.

Their games their rules I guess.

The coverage in the US has been appalling. Because of the time difference, NBC are trying to hold onto the results etc. live, and present it all in the evening more or less "As if" it were live. Just like anyone else, they predominantly show the events where they have gold interest, which means that until the track medals started to come all the coverage was pretty much swimming and girl's athletics.

I have been keeping up live on BBC iplayer, and the service has been absolutely outstanding both live and with all the catch-up utility on the site. In fact, Britain has handled these games with excellence in every department IMO.

Been travelling a lot this week, so haven't really had time to watch much of the Olympics. I did watch Jade Jones win the Taekwondo last night. Another quite unexpected medal, and no-one can say she didn't deserve it. Beat two of the world's best to do it.

Only nineteen too. So very proud of all of our Olympians. It been a pleasure to see them in action. Superb role models for the nippers too.

You have to give credit where its due. After the initial fiascos of playing the wrong anthem and displaying the wrong Korean flag, you feared for the worst. The spectatcular opening ceremony put those fears to rest and made you proud to be British; and since then the games have been an absolute triumph in every single department, most notably the crowds who have been immense and of course the performance of Team GB. The arenas have been incredible, the BBC's coverage has been completely first rate, and the commentary teams have been very good (although often let down by the celebrity commentators such as Reggie whatshisname and Michael Vaughan who haven't really got it).

Overall, absolutely brilliant and it reflects so well on the nation. Really looking forward to seeing the closing ceremony too, I think it could be really spectacular (I'm assuming Danny Boyle got that too??)

I'm not. NBC will completely screw that up too, just like the opening ceremony. Just like the rest of the games, they held the live event and screened an edited abortion at prime time. They reduced the Industrial revolution scene to about 4-5 minutes, and replace the 7/7 tribute with the host of American Idol interviewing Michael Phelps (Yet again) The rest of the poorly edited ceremony was narrated by two people who seemed to have thrown away their notes and just wittered on with no context of what they were seeing. Needless to say, almost everyone in the US thought the ceremony was crap.

Channel 9 here has been shocking, first of all its all about the Aussie athletes, which I can understand but the at times its cringy. Going up to a silver medalist and saying you must be dissapointed is a bit harsh! Also you watch an event only to switch to another event midway through to watch an aussie compete, and mostly come nowhere, and then back to the original broadcasted event...which you have just missed 15 mins of....and then when getting back into it again they switch again as another aussie is doing something. Best broadcast Channel 9 did was when they switched to the BBC who actually gave each athlete a good review before the event and not just focused on the British athlete the whole way through.

Fixed a proxy so I have been following on BBC iPlayer as well. By far the most impressive setup I have yet seen from such an event - it's really the greatest sports buffet in the world ;)

Oh, and Team GB also leads this table: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443537404577577424112910262.html (ha ha :p)

Never seen a BMX race before but boy was that entertaining. Someone said Mario Kart and it's a great comparison!

You guys that loved the bmx really should check out Red Bull X Fighters.

OK not the same in terms of MotoCross racing (whatever happened to that) but X games in general are awesome to watch live

with regards to the closing ceremony...I know the Team GB gold medalist (most of) have filmed miming to Queens "Don't stop me now" and they have got a couple of forces lads in the video too...one of which, is my mate who got me in last week..he can't believe his luck..spent the afternoon with Sir Chris Hoy etc...

not 100% sure if the video will feature in the actual closing ceremony, as that will be decided tomorrow. but they made a few members of the forces honorary members of Team GB.

he said that Chris Hoy and all the athletes that were there was just really lovely people...as down to earth as you can get and all just having a laugh etc

Lutalo Muhammad wins bronze in taekwondo.

Very pleased for the lad, the Aaron Cook farce is not his fault, it his sporting body's fault.

Lutalo has done his best under intense scrutiny and medalled. Well done.

Had a night off Olympics tonight to watch a movie, but Well done to the lad
