The Cat Posted 7 August, 2012 Share Posted 7 August, 2012 Shocking decision in the last fight. The French lad had clearly won that. Shameful. That was a joke decision. Surely they will appeal that. And the Cuban that beat Selby was the nuts. Solid defence and quick counters. Perfect amateur style.

John Boy Saint Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 Well back from a fantastic night in the Olympic stadium. Atmosphere was incredible. Particularly enjoyed the German discus champion celebrating by doing the 100m hurdles. The very level headed Michael Johnson was on BBC doing a link with Inverdale on the TV just as Robbie Grabarz was clearing the high Jump, the noise on TV was immense, so goodness knows how loud it was in the stadium: he stopped mid conversation looked out to the stadium as he turned back just said "Wow!!". alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 I know my beloved Victoria is not exactly popular amongst Team GB cycling for knobbing the coach, but I dont understand why the cycling officals have gone after her in this Olympics. Anna Mears should have also been relegated for the elbows, so the first heat should have been re-run. Cheating was the only way the Mears was going to win, and whilst Victoria shows her class by hugging her at the medal ceremony, Mears goes to the press talking about "just rewards". F**k off you pathetic convict. Victoria lost her momentum after that and losing heat 2 was inevitable. She was therefore stiched up in at least one of her events. To me there is no doubt she is currently the greatest woman track cyclist on the planet, that keirin run was absolutely amazing. Enjoy your retirement, my love.. If you get the chance watch the VP documentary on the Beeb website - she speaks about Mears' 'physical' style of riding. From what I can remember of yesterday's commentary they said that the leaning on is part of sprinting so technically Mears did nothing wrong, and therefore 'technically' VP broke the rules. Harsh, yes, but the comissaire's decision is final. Oh, and you are starting to sound a bit too obsessive.

The noise was incredible. I think everyone in the stadium wanted him to clear that bar! One of the things that struck me is that when the runners go round the track there is a "Mexican wave of sound" that follows them round. The sound always seems to be level with the runners. Really was an impressive place. Though if West Ham get it the stadium I can't work out how they are going to reduce capacity.

Tokyo-Saint Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 (edited) This jazz dancing with horses event is a bit strange. Is it only aloud in as posh people can do it and therefore lets them have a chance at a gold medal? Why are horses able to complete and not other animals? Why horses and not dogs? Could we not have put dog dancing in a an exhibition sport? Surely with Ashley and Pudsey we would be in with a decent shout of another gold. dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 Woo hoo I'm back! Bloody paypal... Oh well What a fantastic last few days, tottaly absorbing stuff and a real once in a lifetime moment (that I managed NOT to be at for a change) ho hum Just a side track to give y'all something to think about from a few pages ago with Golf & Rugby 7's coming into the games in Rio. After all the fuss about Team GB in the Olympic FOOTBALL (just for TDD) the introduction of the 7's while it will be great for the fans (& TV audiences) has a really big issue as well... England, Ireland, Wales & Scotland are all independent Rugby Nations - they will have to become Team GB. Equally problematical will be the Irish Team - they are currently "All Ireland" so will not be able to pick any players from the "North" so you could have Irish International 7's players competing against Irish International 7's players.. Way too complicated. I'm off to have a sit down and learn how the Individual Dressage Points Scoring System works

alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 I've just noted that if swimming were taken out of the Olympics, or maybe even just Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin and Alison Schmitt, the US would be down with S.Korea slugging it out for 4th place in the table. We have a FAR more broad sporting base than the US, it seems. That kind of leaves me with a warm glow inside...

The Kraken Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 Agree. As have said a few times, there just seem to be a ridiculous amount of swim events. You could argue the same for the bikes. And for the rowing. Both of which we've done well at. Personally I'd have more events, not less. Cycling actually got cut down from the amount of events they usually have in the World Championships. Swimming does have different events but they've also been cut down for the Olympics. And the different strokes are different disciplines so fair enough for separate inclusion IMO. dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 twenty20 cricket may well be in the next games No Golf & Rugby 7's are the two that got in... Long term sufferers of my drivel may recall I have more than a passing interest in both sports... But the T20 Global Business Plan to the ICC originally included a plan (bit like NC) to aim for a World Cup first and then the Olympics. So maybe Qatar or whoeover gets the next one after Rio. Some people may infer a note of Sarcasm in my Qatar comment. That in no way was intended, and I would not wish in any way to infer that any sarcasm inferred by other posters on this forum in anyway reflects the opinion of the author of the hope that they are successful in allowing the Worlds' greatest Athletes to test themselves in temperatures of 46C
