View From The Top Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 One year ago our country was in flames. Now it is simply on fire.
alpine_saint Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 The interview with the silver medalist in rowing just highlights what a terrible attitude footballers have when it comes to England That was what the will to win is. Can Rooney and co come away from the euros saying they have their all. Well, going on the pop to Vegas before hand suggest he never These Olympics have really shown what representing your nation is all about Good post, TDD. Agree completely.
sussexsaint Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Just woke up after our Olympic day out yesterday. Me and the family went o the morning athletics , it was absolutely amazing. Never been to live athletics before but the atmosphere was rocking even at 10am. We were about 20 yards from the long jump pit. Amazed how close to the action we felt. All of it, from the volunteers hi fiving the child's on the way in to the immense experience of even being in the park let alone the arena was a humbling and deeply moving experience. We have good reason to be proud as a nation , not just because of our inspirational youngsters in the events but everyone involved on putting this on. One of the best days of my life
sussexsaint Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Oh and hearing 80,000 people sing the national anthem that loud was rather, moving. Can't remember seeing anolympics before where the crowd sings the anthem

Love Mo's response to a dumb journalist last night. http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/politics/2012/08/how-mo-farah-rejected-plastic-brit-charge Embarrassing eh. Also read somewhere that he was asked something similar a few weeks ago. His response was "I am from London and I am a gooner"
Turkish Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Embarrassing eh. Also read somewhere that he was asked something similar a few weeks ago. His response was "I am from London and I am a gooner" Can't have it all I guess.
View From The Top Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Embarrassing eh. Also read somewhere that he was asked something similar a few weeks ago. His response was "I am from London and I am a gooner" Personally I think Mo is a top fella & sums up why Britain is still Great.

doubleonothing Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 I was at Mexico Senegal at Wembley yesterday afternoon. Not a bad game. Atmosphere was not great though. But something that struck me last night was when I was in the pub with Mrs OOO and some friends of ours. People were sitting watching and cheering Mo in the 10,000m last night. Everyone in the pub was watching. It was strange but great. I've never known a reaction like it to athletics. It seems to me that there is a real feel good feeling going on in London at the moment. People are gripped by it. People are talking to each other on the tube about it. It really is something.
Turkish Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Personally I think Mo is a top fella & sums up why Britain is still Great. He was on radio 5 a few weeks back and same across as a really decent fella, as most of them do. Jessica;lovely girl. All of the seem like really decent humble people with no hint of arrogance and a great pride at being there. Probably also has a lot to do with why the whole country is gripped by it. The only times in my lifetime where its got close is Italia 90, the 05 Ashes and 03 Rugby world cup. It's rare for our sportsmen and women to be both successful and decent people.
the colonel Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 I live near London Bridge and love the atmosphere. Yes there are some miserable gits you slag things off, although some of those I speak to are changing their tune a bit. But overall everyone is loving it. There is a real buzz around town although at times central London is a bit quieter than usual. It is great seeing all sorts of nationalities dressed up in national colours and getting in to the games as well. I love this City and the games couldn't have come to a better place. I Shame the England hasn't got the World Cup....although as someone said above footballers could learn a lot from the dedication the other sports men and women are showing.

badgerx16 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Chalk one up for probably the oldest GB competitor - 56 year old Nick Skelton going clear in the team show jumping. And as for the Daily Heil article - what about all the 'plastic' South Africans playing for the England cricket team ? ( Strauss, Trott, Peiterson, etc )
Lazlo78 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 I have one word for that.... B0llocks Mr. "perfect" Ainslie against the chubby Dane who retired and only restarted his career 10 months ago He's quite funny - he complains that he has to train now as eating junk food and going to the movies with the kids was so much more fun for him. He must have an exceptional sailing talent to get an Olympic medal with that attitude. Legend
Saint_clark Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Oh and hearing 80,000 people sing the national anthem that loud was rather, moving. Can't remember seeing anolympics before where the crowd sings the anthem Been trying to find a video of that, doesn't seem to be anywhere.
sussexsaint Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Been trying to find a video of that, doesn't seem to be anywhere. If you google Ennis medal ceremony there is a link to a badly done YouTube clip. The chap obviously videoed his tv and you can hear his click ticking but you get the general idea. That just moments after Mo doing his Mobot , coupled with us all being up since 4am was just too much for us. For the 4 of us it cost us £600 for the 4 hours of sport plus £100 for train and same again at least for food drink and merch. Worth every single penny and I am so glad we were a part of it. Still tingling today.
doubleonothing Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Just watched the first Olympic women's boxing match. I'm sorry. It was appalling.
JackFrost Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 It's pretty erratic. Just watched the 2nd match and the punches are either a mile off or right on the target, although the defence is pretty awful. It can only get better I suppose
brightspark Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Ben Ainslie - incredible! Hero, greatest sailor of all time! If only he wasn't Cornish
Colinjb Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Andy Murray a set up v Federer and broken his serve in the second set. He is looking exceptional today.
dune Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Looks like the miserable jock is going to win then. Federer can't be trying.
Colinjb Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Broken Federer again. 4-0 up in the second set. He can't lose from here, surely.
Colinjb Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Looks like the miserable jock is going to win then. Federer can't be trying. The way he was fighting to win the third game and break Murray's serve back, no chance.
Saintandy666 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Looks like the miserable jock is going to win then. Federer can't be trying. What a load of rubbish. Federer wants this more than anything. It's the only thing he hasn't won.
sambosa75 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Muzza is inspired at the moment. He is English for the day as far as I'm concerned!
sambosa75 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 10 straight games on the bounce from Murray. Very impressive.
dune Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 What a load of rubbish. Federer wants this more than anything. It's the only thing he hasn't won. So Federer wants this more than a wimbledon victory or a grand slam, riiiiight. Have you overdosed on the blue smarties again Andy?
Saintandy666 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 So Federer wants this more than a wimbledon victory or a grand slam, riiiiight. Have you overdosed on the blue smarties again Andy? Yes. Not originally obviously, but now he has won everything else except the Olympics. The Olympics is a big deal in tennis these days. Just look at how Del Potro reacted to his bronze.
dune Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Yes. Not originally obviously, but now he has won everything else except the Olympics. The Olympics is a big deal in tennis these days. Just look at how Del Potro reacted to his bronze. Well that's your opinion and I respect that even though you are talking utter sh/te.
View From The Top Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 So Federer wants this more than a wimbledon victory or a grand slam, riiiiight. Have you overdosed on the blue smarties again Andy? All the top players rate it right up there as they don't get to represent their nations in anything else of significance. All of them have stated so in the build up. I was quite surprised myself.
Saintandy666 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Well that's your opinion and I respect that even though you are talking utter sh/te. Murray probably wants a slam more. But Federer wants the Olympics more because he hasn't won it. Nadal has the career golden slam and Federer doesn't. It's the one thing that has evaded him.
dune Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Murray probably wants a slam more. But Federer wants the Olympics more because he hasn't won it. Nadal has the career golden slam and Federer doesn't. It's the one thing that has evaded him. Yes yes yes, you've already said that and it's still rubbish.

Nadal has the career golden slam and Federer doesn't. It's the one thing that has evaded him. Relax, there's no possible way Murray could win a top class tennis tournament unless Federer let him, of course not. Incidentally, he has two break points in the third set.
sambosa75 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Murray is finding the same angles Federer found against him in the Wimbledon final. Come on Andy.
Colinjb Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 I think Federer has admitted defeat now, his shots are wayward, his focus shot. Murray has blitzed, dare I say, smashed him.
dune Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 I think Federer has admitted defeat now, his shots are wayward, his focus shot. You are right Colin. He's not trying.
Colinjb Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 You are right Colin. He's not trying. Incorrect, he's just been on the end of a thrashing. He has been broken. And he is obviously still trying. He fought back from 15:40 down to win that game. He is not rolling over but he is being given a stunning test and is barely holding on to stay in it.
sambosa75 Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 You are right Colin. He's not trying. Yeah looks like it...
Glasgow_Saint Posted 5 August, 2012 Posted 5 August, 2012 Another gold for team England? Come on Murray
