Colinjb Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Every games since Sydney has a face of the Olympics its traditional now Not forgetting Michael Johnson in Atlanta 1996.
Lazlo78 Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Shame, as they really seemed to be pipped at the last by the Danes, but credit to the Danes who gave a phenominal finish to win that. Although disappointed by 'only' a silver, it was a bit of a relief though that they were able to continue.I feared the worst when they pulled up after the first start, despite all the camera angles BBC didn't confirm if within 100m or not. Agree about the raw emotion though of the competitors here, the two girls overawed and humbled by their success, than Mark Hunter &Zac Purchase, physically drained by their efforts and struggling with disappointment of their 'failure'.Great credit to them (and John Inverdale) for showing their human side. CVnts like Rooney, Giggs et al should take note. Our first gold medal at the games! They knew they could win a sprint, but they admitted that they were scared sh*tless about the british guys, and that the Eton Roar was the craziest they had experienced in their careers
The Cat Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Every games since Sydney has a face of the Olympics its traditional now Traditional like the Olympic Flame? Did the Nazis invent her too?
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 Traditional like the Olympic Flame? Did the Nazis invent her too? Bit odd
Colinjb Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Right, I'll say it. Isn't the amount of hyperbole surrounding Ennis just a but too much? Yes she's clearly good and has achieved something amazing, but then so have all the gold medal winners and the media really do seem to go over the top about her. If she was a munter there's no way they'd bang on about her quite so much. I don't think so. She competes in a jack of all trades discipline and is capable of being the best in the world at just one of the tasks (Matching the last olympic winning time in the 100m hurdles...) while not sacrificing competitiveness in any of the others. Truly incredible.
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Traditional like the Olympic Flame? Did the Nazis invent her too? Strange bloke
Turkish Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Mo is who I want to win the most such a legend I agree, really good guy.
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Not forgetting Michael Johnson in Atlanta 1996. Good. Point I forgot that
CB Saint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 What I like these days is British athletes being p1ssed off winning silver.
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 I agree, really good guy. I met him last year such a down to earth bloke and the distance events are so much more Difficult than the others.
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 Farrah was amazing Perfect race What a night.
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 We are a bit good - Fact Indeed. I said earlier in the thread that we won't equal Beijing. No matter hat happens now. How wrong i was Those who kept moaning about the Olympics for the last few years can go fuk themselves. These are the biggest and best Olympics ever
bridge too far Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 I'm just overwhelmed and lost for words and just so, so proud of my country's athletes.
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Indeed. I said earlier in the thread that we won't equal Beijing. No matter hat happens now. How wrong i was Those who kept moaning about the Olympics for the last few years can go fuk themselves. These are the biggest and best Olympics ever Have to agree there. It has totally surpassed my expectations. Wonderful.

latter day saint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 its rather good being British tonight ! best night for British athletics ever ...... so far
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 fact It is. The word from the people working there, that the "family" are just blown away with the facilities but also having an Olympics in London is a massive draw itself It is the most attended and WR have been tumbling all over the place Also, the legacy will be the best yet
LGTL Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Mo Farah has beaten the cube and won Olympic gold in the space of months. Nice!
latter day saint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 It is. The word from the people working there, that the "family" are just blown away with the facilities but also having an Olympics in London is a massive draw itself It is the most attended and WR have been tumbling all over the place Also, the legacy will be the best yet bit of a poke in the eye for all the critics beforehand, so far imagine what it would have been like if we got the World Cup also
Saint J 77 Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Mo Farah has beaten the cube and won Olympic gold in the space of months. Nice! I wonder which he enjoyed more?
The Cat Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 And somewhere in a stadium in Cardiff 80000 people may as well be watching tumbleweed drift past.
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 bit of a poke in the eye for all the critics beforehand, so far imagine what it would have been like if we got the World Cup also Bungs aside. I wonder what blatter is thinking now. Seeing us put on and out on very well, the biggest show on earth. 70k+ for women's football FFS
Saint J 77 Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 On another note, I think Team GB are predictably about to lose on penalties in the football!
CB Saint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 This could be the moment where butland is priced out of reach or Birmingham wished they accepted our bid
badgerx16 Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Why couldn't Ramsey have taken the second pen like that ?
badgerx16 Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 ....... and WR have been tumbling all over the place Bit greedy for the women's pursuit team to do so many in the one event though
MOSaint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 Well, they were largely **** and bottled the penalties in the QF, a traditional international tournament.
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 Ah Sod football. They have enough of the centre stage and few seem to show they appreciate it. Unlike the rest of team GB
latter day saint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 means Jack Cork can come back & take part in preseason i suppose
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 bit of a poke in the eye for all the critics beforehand, so far imagine what it would have been like if we got the World Cup also I have to say I was wrong to doubt its success. The whole thing has been a huge celebration of being British. Fifa are idiots quite frankly. An English world cup would have been a huge success and they opted for mediocrity.
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 And incidentally I'm glad the football players are out. Watching this athletics shows what it is really all about
dubai_phil Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 What an astonishing day of TV to watch. I've been here 19 years & this is the first time a Sat channel that I have (or a time zone) have let me watch the Olympics. Somewhere deep down I'm convinced I've seen more Gold medals in one day than in my entire life before landing here. Wow, just wow Rowers Cyclists & FFS the athletes. Oh and you know what - with all our oversized women these days around the pubs & clubs, cannot be long before we find some Olympic women Shot Putters or Discus throwers
CB Saint Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 The flowers are a bit toss. Look like they have swiped out of the neighbours garden
hypochondriac Posted 4 August, 2012 Posted 4 August, 2012 I think I will look back on my life and think that this was the most successful day in British sporting history.
Thedelldays Posted 4 August, 2012 Author Posted 4 August, 2012 I think I will look back on my life and think that this was the most successful day in British sporting history. I agree Eclipsed anything in football apart from saints of course. I am so glad I went on Tuesday. Was amazing.
