david in sweden Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 I think you may have overlooked the fact that the transfer fees for our Academy lads start at around £10-£12 million,(plus add-ons naturally)...assuming that we sell them. Arsenal will not have forgotten their game of strip poker with Nicola Cortese the last time they wanted to buy one of our players. Luke Shaw has a better chance of becoming a regular at SMS than he does at the Emirates. If Arsenal comes "sniffing around " as you put it, they might as well go and sniff their own A*se, 'cos for once... we don't need their money ..and future deals may prove very costly for them. mulletsaint Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 to be fair to Morgan, he has never played against that sort of quality before and he certainly wont be the only defensive midfielder to lose Silva this season. No doubt Morgan will need to up his game this season, but for me, he is one of our moat naturally talented players and i really think he will make the jump. I know what you mean, but this wasn't amazing movement from Silva, not anything that attacking midfielders in the Champ don't do most games. Either laziness or absentmindedness on his part. Still I'm sure Nigel's shown him the video! I still believe that we need a proper defensive mid with Morgan sat alongside getting things started. Anyway, back to JWP. Think he's got a big future but think we need to ease him in and not rely on him week in week out. I think when Cork's back he'll see less action. saintbob40 Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 Very good 17 year old who aquitted himself very well in a huge game. That doesn't make him a premier league player who will run a game at this level. In time I hope yes. But if we are to pick up points we need someone who shows for the ball and keeps it. We looked a man short in that respect on Sunday.

I think a lot of us agree with that, but he'll do well to hold that consistent level for 5-6 games...by then Jack should be back !
Minty Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 Only a small point, and certainly don't want to overplay this, but am just watching the extended highlights of last nights game and wanted to pick out JWP's pass for Billy Sharp's disallowed goal... it is a superb piece of vision, cutting the defence in two. I know it was only Stevenage, and I know it was just one pass, but it gives an indication of his awareness and composure to play such a ball... and in one so young that is very encouraging. We need someone who can see a pass been saying it for ages - hopefully it'll be from within.

He did a similar couple of balls preseason again for Sharp to run onto. Looks to be able to pick a pass to a runner which bodes well for our new African star.
