ericofarabia Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 What impressed me was the way he showed for, and then demanded the ball. At 17. Reminded me a bit of Stevie William's debut at The Cauldron of Hate v skatesmuff in 76.

Willo Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 He reminded me of Fabregas's debut against Man Utd in the charity shield years ago. Saint_clark Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 I really like Lallana with the freedom in a 5 man midfield. Jwp was simply outstanding. IMO ahead of jack cork on that performance, full of energy and more offensive thinking also. He will play a big part this year. Future star no doubt He wasn't really playing with freedom though. He even said himself in interviews that playing more centrally means he has to be more disciplined and track back more.

thesaint sfc Posted 29 July, 2012 Share Posted 29 July, 2012 I've said it for years, a star in the making. Love him, so technical, so agile yet so confident and plays beyond his age. His got the football brain and the ability to find space, which is a telling sign of a class player. He will be an England international, I'll stand by that. Totally in the Jack Wiltshire mold, class class act. ghey

Mouldy Coat Posted 30 July, 2012 Share Posted 30 July, 2012 He wasn't really playing with freedom though. He even said himself in interviews that playing more centrally means he has to be more disciplined and track back more. Although we are digressing slightly, when we have the ball, Lallana has more freedom playing centrally as he can drift left, right, come deep etc and is therefore harder to mark/ double up on as easy as if he is isolated out wide. When we are defending it means he has generally got more running to do though, but i think he will be more effective in that central role than being out wide. Of course, Williams at his best had Ball... my thoughts exactly.....Steve Williams was quoted as saying... that as a youngster, he stood on the Highbury terraces and watched his "hero" ...Alan Ball play in the Arsenal side. Less than 5 years later he was playing alongside him... in the Saints team.. ......but perhaps Guly or Steve Davis will play that same " Bally " role for JWP?... The9 Posted 30 July, 2012 Share Posted 30 July, 2012 Thing is, even if Adkins IS planning on incorporating Ward-Prowse into the side as a regular starter by the end of the season, chucking him in to get destroyed by Man City at the Etihad is a really bad idea. That's the one place where experience will be vital, and we're not going to be starting with a bunch of kids who haven't played a Prem game in that match. Ordinarily I'd agree, but I think its telling that JWP started against a side as good as Ajax while Cork was unavailable and Hammond and Chaplow started on the bench. I imagine Cork will come back as a starter and JWP go back into reserve, but if he keeps putting in decent performances then he's still in with a chance, what with Cork missing out on so many games for us and with us now playing a completely new formation to last season. It looks like 4-3-3 will be our choice formation, so we'll very often have 3 CMs. I can see that being with Lallana playing more centrally and JRod left wing in some games, whereas we may look to keep it tighter for some games with just one striker and for those potentially play Lallana on the left and 3 of Cork, Schneiderlin, Davis, JWP, Hammond in the middle. I agree with that, but I think in terms of Ward-Prowse's long-term development a Prem debut at home to Wigan might be a more encouraging prospect than one away to Man City. Cork could be well off the pace for the first few weeks, not training with the rest of the squad, doing lighter tournament training and sitting on the bench for GB instead of getting matches. Ward-Prowse is also going to improve more and learn more by playing pre-season than any of the other midfielders. Will be interesting to see who plays in the Udinese match, which would usually be the dress-rehearsal for the first match of the season. Cork could be well off the pace for the first few weeks, not training with the rest of the squad, doing lighter tournament training and sitting on the bench for GB instead of getting matches. There's a reasonable chance neither Cork nor Davis will be up to it if they keep missing games. The longer Team GB go in the tournament, the worse for us. Davis I simply can't see being match fit for the start of the season, he's not even in full training yet and hasn't played a game. cork I would imagine would be much more likely to be fit, but its just a case of him learning very quickly how to fit into the new system. I don't see Hammond getting much game time at all, perhaps just the odd 10 of 15 minutes here or there. I agree throwing JWP into a Man City cauldron is far from ideal, but if NA thinks he's up to it then I guess he'll do it. I think we'll get utterly thumped by Man City whatever team we put out anyway.

Again, agree with all of that - and it's a fair point, but if we're going to lose anyway, why risk him and damage his confidence for Wigan, which will be an easier ride (though not "easy")?
