Dan Harding to Forest - Confirmed

Saint Charlie

Recommended Posts

Hold your horses.

Despite earlier story, paperwork has not been completed on the Dan Harding transfer to Forest, as such the deal is not complete #SaintsFC

It seems a bit extreme to pull the story, Surely the paper work is just a formality and the deal will still go through? Unless of course our side didn't want it to go through due to a possible replacement transfer falling through?

Good luck to him. works hard, sadly nowhere near good enough for us.

never really felt confident with him defending

We kind of outgrew him, but he was more than good enough for us in L1. One of the best players at that level

bit O.T.T.

How? If you read my sentence you can understand the context, instead of highlighting a part of it. Liebherr's takeover is arguably the most significant part of our club's history. Without the his takeover the club would have ceased to exist as we know it and Harding was the first signing of this era. Don't see how that is OTT.

How much could Saints expect to get from selling a player like Dan? Is it mostly just about reducing our wage bill?

Or maybe that he just isn't going to get much game time if he stays with us? I doubt this move was money oriented from any parties angle.

Why is he a moron? It's his opinion and he's entitled to it. If he thinks he's crap that's fair enough.

IMO he's a top L1 left back and could do a job for a midtable championship side but clearly Nige recognised the left back area needed strengthening last summer as I did and went and got Fox, which was proven to be a good signing. Harding is a good pro and will do a good job wherever he goes next. I'm sure he'll quickly prove a popular figure with the local ball boys.

He is entitled to that opinion I agree. Just like I'm entitled to the opinion that he's a moron for making such a ridiculous and unsubstantiated comment like that. Harding was a class act during our time in League one, played such an important part in Lallana's brilliant form those 2 seasons as well. I wish him nothing but the best for the remainder of his career.

will always remember harding bombing forward losing the ball then trying to catch the winger 20yds behind him . headless chicken comes to mind.

anyway lets weed them out hammond next please.

didnt like him did ya ?

at least he was usually close enough to the winger to catch him.....unlike the current left back !!!

played a big part in our last 3 years, pity that passed you by !

I'll be sorry to see him go. A good solid pro, who always gave 100%. Had a great first season with us & was always reliable when called upon. Having said that, he's not good enough for the Prem.

Best of luck to him for the future, the ball-boys can relax a little now.

Have mixed feelings about Dan Harding in pompey fa cup and pompey away he cost us goals, which made me hate him for weeks, however in other matches he was decent, for me he was not consistent enough to hold a place in the championship for a team looking for promotion.

Scoring against an over arrogant Leeds side in our first season in L1 should help ease the Pompey wow's

Has he actually gone,as I have heard a rumour that he has been told he can go without Adkins being consulted.

hence the original slight confusion over a hold up almost after the deal had been completed with Forest.

Thats just a rumour, don't believe it ;)

At Pompey away he made an excellent tackle/interception to stop them going straight through the middle when the centre backs went walkabout, the fact they scored from the following corner was hardly his fault.

Now on BBC site as a done deal.

I wish him well on this move. When he signed it was regarded as a good signal and a bit of a coup, as he was sought after by a couple of Championship clubs after a good spell on loan at Reading.

Pardew's first signing - shortly after our Ajax game strangely enough - and it did signal that we were moving back in the right direction.

Mostly good memories of his time with us in L1 and NPC, but left behind by our rise.

However always amused by the spin doctors :

"It was a big decision for me to leave, but I feel it's going to be really good for me," Harding told the club website

"There aren't many clubs I'd have left Southampton for. But Forest is a club going places, I'm really pleased."

which translates as " A sad decision to have to leave, but I no longer had a future there after promotion to the Premiership. Forest were the best option and offered the most..."

Fair enough, but just saw in Daily Mail 2011 that EPL wages are five times Championship wages:

Average Premier League wages have reached £22,353 a week - before lucrative bonuses - or £1.16million a year.

Average Championship earnings are £4,059 a week (£211,068 a year), less than a fifth of players one division above.

So perhaps we'd save £200,000-500,000 a year for every little-used squad player we cut. Add possible £300,000 sale income, and it looks smart to keep the squad lean. Forest seem happy to have Dan so all looks good for him anyway.

I suspect any average figure is going to be massively skewed by the really big earners. It would be interesting to see what the figure is without the top 4 clubs included or, dredging through my limited stats knowledge, the modal figure.

Anyway, good deal for clubs and player and wish him the best.
