Dan Harding to Forest - Confirmed

Saint Charlie

IF he goes it seems to signal that a new LB is definitely on the cards. Olsson?

Maybe Dickson might get a bit more of a look in? Long shot but who knows? Would be a decent extra option for the squad IMO.

Not necessarily. We dont really need three left backs, unless one of them is going to play higher up the pitch.

Been a good servant to the club, but was pushed out by Fox last season. Versatile and committed, even if the quality wasn't always there. Probably a good move for him if he's going to become the main man at Forest. With the emergence of Shaw, Fox still being around, reported interest in left-backs and cover at right-back (where he has slotted in on occasion), fair to say his days are probably numbered here.

Never a fan of him but he ended up doing well in League 1 in promotion year, was never really good enough for the Championship but appears never to have moaned and has worked hard.

Good luck to him if and when he moves on.

Lasting memory of him will be the JPT Final

Him giving everything while playing out of position at right back, keeping Carlisle quiet and ensuring that despite being at a dissadvantage, he upheld his role in the team.

Thought he was great in the Man U cup game. Really bombed forward and got some crosses in.

The feature of his game IMO was how much energy he had, he was a properly overlapping full back who got to the byline, yet quick to recover and get back in position. I reckon ProZone must have showed that he was up there with most distance covered every game. A bit limited in his actual delivery and end product but in league 1 he was a great attacking asset and a real good foil for Lallana cutting inside.

I have always liked Harding for his enthusiasm and commitment. He was the first new player under the ML ownership and him moving on shows how far we have come in three years.

As others have noted, the Prem will be a stretch for him but he could do a good job in the Championship.

You've got to laugh that they have tagged this forum and saying we think he's crap! I agree 100% with St Chalet that he's been an excellent player for us but we've moved on so fast that he is one of a few that can't keep up. Too good for L1 (like most of the players we signed whilst in there), a useful player at Championship level but not a Prem player. He'll do a decent job for Forest IMO.

he was utter crap

A completely stupid thing to say, which is so factually untrue.

He was terrific for us in L1, and was part of the reason we're now in the PL. He's played a massive part in where we are and I'll appreciate what he did for us if he moved on, I'll fond memories of him for sure.

Maybe you should try looking at all his performances again? Just an idea.

I really like Harding, shouldnt be any criticism of the bloke I dont think. Always seems to give as good as hes got and in this league has always come across as very solid. Not really good enough for where we are now but certainly wouldnt do any team any harm. A good move for both teams I would say.

Thought he was top drawer in our L1 campaign, not done a lot wrong but would be punching above his weight in PL. Sorry to see him go if true, great servant to the club, good pro and i genuinely rate his ability in the lower leagues. Good signing for Forest if true.

+1. Excellent in League 1 and a great servant for us on our journey to the Premier League. Always gave 110%, wears his heart on his sleeve sort of player. Forest would be a good move for him, big club but doubt they'll challenge up the top of the Championship next season, probably mid-table which is about DH's level.

Cheers Dan and good luck for the future.

Dickson's already been told he's not going to be in the 25 and won't be sent out on loan either judging by his little outburst on twitter a couple of weeks ago. No-one playing at Sholing or Exeter is going to be involved in the 25 man squad (though a couple of the U-21s might get a look-in).

Which, imo, makes it a bit weird that we're letting him go before signing someone as his replacement.

Where is the source of this rumour, any idea?

FWIW I rate him.

I think I'm right in saying he was the first signing of the Markus era, been a good servant for us but this would be a good move for all involved.

You are correct. As a sign of the times, he arrived the day Jason Euell left.

No idea about the Harding rumour, the Dickson one was pretty well established from Twitter.

The Shaw fan club would have a field day - but we're clearly in the market for another left back with the Buttner interest, so I don't think it's that big a deal, worst case scenario we've got Fox who's played in the Prem recently and a highly rated full back, plus another month or so to sign someone else.

Houston we have a moron.

Why is he a moron? It's his opinion and he's entitled to it. If he thinks he's crap that's fair enough.

IMO he's a top L1 left back and could do a job for a midtable championship side but clearly Nige recognised the left back area needed strengthening last summer as I did and went and got Fox, which was proven to be a good signing. Harding is a good pro and will do a good job wherever he goes next. I'm sure he'll quickly prove a popular figure with the local ball boys.

Was a very good signing for us, put some great displays in whilst we were in League One and was handy back up to Fox last season, but it has become clear he isn't good enough.

Will always get a good reception if he came back to play against us i think.

Why are we writing off good and loyal servants of the club. Where would you guys who don't think Dan's got a future in the Premier League when Saints signed Chris Marsden from a career in the lower leagues. . " Marsden did not reach the heights of the Premiership until he was 30 when he was brought to Southampton by then manager Dave Jones. There is no comparison between football played in the Chamionship and the Premier League and there are players who've bloomed coming from the lower leagues and found the style of play suited their game. Being 30 is no restriction to a player as Paul Telfer showed when he played week in week out for Saints.

Always liked Dan Harding committed, a good team player who knew how to put in a good tackle. Great full back at league 1 level decent at championship level ....will get slaughtered in the PL. Bit sad to see ever present players from the last few seasons now having to move on...........price of progress I guess.

He's done a decent job for us and was an ever present for us in our L1 promotion campaign. He played with a lot of passion and energy and was nearly always an outlet for us to play out from the back. His biggest weakness was always his defending a ball at the back post but other than that thought we was pretty solid.

Good luck to him wherever he goes.

FWIW I think Harding is a better defender than Fox. You can't fault his effort, desire or commitment. Is he a Premier League player? Not sure, but for his effort alone in a Sains shirt he should be treated with respect by ALL Saints fans.

I remember Carlisle away where he had a complete mare & I remember a the screamer he scored at SMS.

He would leave with my best wishes & respect.
