I parked up at Town Quay the other week to nip into the loo.

I now have a £75 fine (which is the early payment discount) for the pleasure by a company called Parking Eye..

can I tell them to shove it as there is plenty on the wide web about this company

Been a lot in the Echo recently about this lot.

They photograph your registration when you drive in and again when you leave and you enter your registration when you buy your ticket. You're allowed 15 minutes.

It's not a fine (only the Police and Local Authority can issue fines), it's an invoice, so it's treated like any other debt. Whether they would bother with debt collectors - who knows? Does it say on the notice what happens if you don't pay?

The great thing is that these are invoices not fines therefore not legal binding, you are under no obligation to pay what so ever. They can try and take you to court to have the invoice in forced but very very rarely do, as it will cost them a lot more and 95% of the time they get thrown out.

yeah...so many have said this...so many have said to just ignore them, they will send letter after letter and threaten this and that..but any more action other than a letter will cost them significantly more than the money they want.

also, they cannot legally enforce the penalty notice..only the police and the council can issue a legal fine..

i think I will just ignore them

As a member of HM armed Forces and thereby representing your country at all times, plus acting as a role model to our nations populace, you should not only pay the penalty in full immediately but make a full public apology in the Echo followed by a hefty donation to a Taunton-based 'charity', details of which I shall PM you.

Yep, ignore them.

If they keep sending you increasingly threatening letters, send them a letter back saying you only have a legal obligation to pay any fine to the police or local council which they are neither, and you'll construe any future letters from them as harassment.

Have a look at the consumer action group website. Ignore, and play 'letter bingo' as each nasty letter drops through your door, until the last one comes when they beg you to pay half, as a last chance attempt before they really really take you to court. Yeah right...

Difficult not to but writing back is the worst thing you can do. THis was they think they have you hooked and will keep trying a bit harder and longer

Write to them once, make it clear that you are aware that it is an invoice rather than a fine or penalty, say you dispute their invoice and decline to pay it, and that you will not engage in further correspondence on the matter. Ignore any further correspondence from them. They can not, and will not, enforce this "fine", because the first time they try to do so and lose, it will be all over the papers and nobody will pay them. Its scare tactics, nothing more.
