Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2012 Share Posted 27 July, 2012 I parked up at Town Quay the other week to nip into the loo. I now have a £75 fine (which is the early payment discount) for the pleasure by a company called Parking Eye.. can I tell them to shove it as there is plenty on the wide web about this company
ecuk268 Posted 27 July, 2012 Share Posted 27 July, 2012 Been a lot in the Echo recently about this lot. They photograph your registration when you drive in and again when you leave and you enter your registration when you buy your ticket. You're allowed 15 minutes. It's not a fine (only the Police and Local Authority can issue fines), it's an invoice, so it's treated like any other debt. Whether they would bother with debt collectors - who knows? Does it say on the notice what happens if you don't pay?

The Kraken Posted 27 July, 2012 Share Posted 27 July, 2012 As said, you should be allowed a 15 minute grace period. That must have been a monster dump you had DD.

JonnyLove Posted 27 July, 2012 Share Posted 27 July, 2012 The great thing is that these are invoices not fines therefore not legal binding, you are under no obligation to pay what so ever. They can try and take you to court to have the invoice in forced but very very rarely do, as it will cost them a lot more and 95% of the time they get thrown out. If they keep sending you increasingly threatening letters, send them a letter back saying you only have a legal obligation to pay any fine to the police or local council which they are neither, and you'll construe any future letters from them as harassment. Huffton Posted 27 July, 2012 Share Posted 27 July, 2012 Have a look at the consumer action group website. Ignore, and play 'letter bingo' as each nasty letter drops through your door, until the last one comes when they beg you to pay half, as a last chance attempt before they really really take you to court. Yeah right...

Difficult not to but writing back is the worst thing you can do. THis was they think they have you hooked and will keep trying a bit harder and longer

scotty Posted 27 July, 2012 Share Posted 27 July, 2012 Write to them once, make it clear that you are aware that it is an invoice rather than a fine or penalty, say you dispute their invoice and decline to pay it, and that you will not engage in further correspondence on the matter. Ignore any further correspondence from them. They can not, and will not, enforce this "fine", because the first time they try to do so and lose, it will be all over the papers and nobody will pay them. Its scare tactics, nothing more.
