looks as if he could have kicked the last ball for us.

Swindon Town have been tracking him for over two months, they have now tabled an offer.

reported to be £500k

That said, sure he will leave but doubt Swindon could get anywhere near his current wages.

Swindon have a seriously wealthy owner. They're probably one of the richest clubs in the land. He's never splashed the cash before but the money is certainly there should he ever decide to.

I don't think his asking price would be far short of that.

He would be an excellent signing for anyone in League One.

why? He's a very good League one possibly championship striker.

I agree. But I didn't say he's not worth that. I just didn't think that Swindon would have the money.

I stand corrected then. I'd looked at their transfers in so far and they'd all been freebies.

They're not going on any mad spending sprees but they've said in the past the money is there for the right player. The bloke has been there a few years now, he may have decided that now is the time to spend a little with a decent manager in charge who can attract players.

For a League One club they are minted. It remains to be seen on whether they follow the QPR route or the Southampton Way. Either way, I think he would do really well at Swindon and good luck to him.

Well if they followed the Southampton Way they'd certainly be willing to pay for Barnard and his wages, plus a few more besides.

£500k for Barnard would be a great deal, I still think he was one of our best buys since the takeover (in terms of quality compared to what we paid for him).

What were we rumoured to have paid for him?

Averaged (roughly) 1 goal every 3 games for us. Not too bad considering we had Lambert scoring 30 a season as well.

If memory serves the fee was in the region of £250-300k plus Matt Paterson - I think we benefited from the player's contract being nearly up.

I'd like to see him get a decent chance in the Championship, though. It seems harsh for people to write him off as a League 1 player, as he didn't really get a look in for us last season.

He'd be a top signing for a bottom half NPC team or a decent L1 side. Can't see any NPC sides with promotion aspirations wanting him though.

there is absolutely no truth in this rumour whatsoever...........Swindon Chairman quoted about "supposed " Swindon bid for Lee Barnard.

so...another of the 52 "rumours " about transfers involving Saints players bites the dust.

Where do people get these ITK stories from? ..this one was clearly NOT ITK.
