Lack of quality activity...

There are also many people within this thread who agreed with the concern that we hadn't (still haven't) signed players in key area, particularly CB and RM. So I'm not sure where the "told you so" approach comes from.

Oh I know, I think I just found it very frustrating that I gained such criticism from a lot of posters for putting together a reasoned argument, and I didn't believe I deserved it.

Is anybody slightly worried at the quality of footballers we're being linked with? Personally the players we've bought are alright, but I yhink they're lacking in real quality, even compared to mid table Prem teams. Players like Scott Dann for instance. We need to be aiming higher than poor Premiership players who had one lucky season sat in a 10-0-0 formation. I wonder if we're struggling to attract players due to the amount of money we're willing to spend/pay in wages, or due to Adkins not being a big name draw?

Anyone else a little worried?

Nothing else to say but...

  • 2 weeks later...

So then, still no signings and a startling lack of quality shown in a loss at home to the worst team in the division, who had just lost their best player.

I assume all the people who have criticised me and this thread still expect 3 or 4 players in by the end of this week? No more than we deserved yesterday due to our insipid preperation to this season.

It's getting a bit ridiculous now.

We started with NA wanting up to 5 or 6 more players (and signing 1 in Gazzaniga), and saying we'll have some before the Man City game.

That's since been downsized a little bit; we're apparently no longer after a left back, its gone eerily quiet altogether on another keeper. We know we're after a winger of sorts with the previous interest in Ramirez, and who knows exactly what's happening with a new centre back (Alan Nixon is tweeting that we haven't got a clue which CB we're going for, which doesn't sound overly optimistic at this late stage).

I was concerned when this thread started, and my overall wish was that we avoid the kind of last minute Jos Hooiveld deal that we had to make last season, a last roll of the dice gamble that may or may not come off. I'm absolutely sure we won't hit our original target number of players, right now I feel I'll be utterly delighted if we get 2 more new players in. And lets remember, being as we keep getting them highlighted as a benchmark, in the transfer window last summer Norwich brought in 8 new players and Swansea 9. We so far have 4.

More bewetting FFS. Stop panicking everyone FFS. All you need to thrive in the average premier league where the bottom ten are no better than than the top half of the championship is a good academy and a good manager, we've got both of those and together with our policy of spending less money more cleverly then we are nailed on for a top half finish.

I am now a bit concerned, we may well get relegated if we don't get 3 or 4 players in and we seem to be running out of time.

But when you originally posted this thread it was extremely premature, and I maintain that the signings we've made so far have been decent. Clyne has been a revelation!

I must say, I'm slightly concerned about the lack of any rumours, what so ever. That to me suggests we're not close to anything right now.

It's impossible to keep transfers in the PL quiet, no matter what club you are, so if you're close a story will break to say as much. But we've nothing, no player links anywhere.

I just hope next week isn't a panic buy week, and the players we target and genuinely players we have tracked for a while.

Wigan seem to have been busy with Aruna Kone and Miyaichi though, decent signings you'd expect to be capable.

Meanwhile even with our type of targets we haven't heard a peep about, say, Bolton's Mark Davies, who's 24 and could be picked up for less than Rodriguez cost, but has talent and Prem experience that doesn't just include relegation.

He'd be a great addition.

Centre midfield really isn't our priority right now

Not really worried or surprised. As I said way back in June, we are probably half planning to go down and did so back in May.

In your time on this forum you have posted some downright stupid, trolling, clueless drivel but this one is

by far the most incredibly mental one ever...you need medical help...you are without any doubt a nutter

Not as crazy as it sounds, my mate supports Blackburn and reckons the Venkys deliberately planned relegation to get the £30m parachute payments.

Just saying.

What!!!It is crazy...as they get more for staying in the division and the sky money is increasing by 70%

so why would anyone plan to get relegated....

In reply to above posts. It would be crazy NOT to plan for relegation, in fact I would say it was wreckless not too. I am sure the likes of Norwich, Swansea, Reading have a plan if relegation should happen.

Good management plans for all inevitabilities as far as possible.

How long should we "track" a player before making a move and why wait until the last moment? Its all a tad bizarre tbh.

The penny drops for you at last. Perhaps you will be a little less abusive now.

We are in deep trouble, imo. I am starting to think no-one will come in this week, and am wondering if there has been a break down between Adkins and NC like there was between Pardew and NC. Adam Blackmore's blog has really opened my eyes.

Well, considering the more moderate tone of your response, it seems to me there is a significant awakening going on amongst our fan base.

Someonw with contacts in the club has twittered that we dont have a clue which CBs to go for. I'll say again, we are in deep sh*t.

It does seem so FF. Alternatively, it could be that teams like Bologna and whoever else, are just taking a risk that interest from other clubs might push their prices up. It has been far from the busiest window up until now.

I hope we don't have to do all our business in a panicky last day. Who remembers Higginbottom and Prutton...

I think that would be the minimum in order to get ourselves in a decent position relatively come december/january

I reckon we need a keeper, centre-back, left-back and a couple of pacy wingers.

I also think we could move a few on who we know aren't good enough for this level.

We need at least 4 players imo.

If we are sticking to 433 we need a LB that will support the LW and put in crosses you see players like Clichy,A cole,Essou-Ekotto,Evra,Gibbs etc do this on a weekly basis,or if not Fox needs to support more

Clyne has looked decent but he needs to support more,at the moment he looks more like a 442 defender, this hopefully is down to lack of experience and he will get there, but if he gets injured do we have the cover to replace him?

2 wingers,SDR is obviously not in contention,Lee is not fit (yet) and unproven, and what is happening to Punch is anyone's guess?

A CB I think we can all agree we need 1 at the very least maybe 2

A keeper?? I am not so sure,KD has done well for us I don't think he has been at fault for any of the goals,he could of done better against Tevez but 9 times out of 10 the player will go across goal.

So for me we need at least 4 players at most 6.

I feel we have left it to late to get these players in,and if not who are we going to get? Buying players from Europe may save you millions but the prem is a hard league and you run the risk of them not adapting

Man C proved that we have the potential to stay up. I have been making clear that we need to add quality all week, however.

Wigan has probably shown more where we are currently in the scheme of things. And it does not make good viewing.

I dont really see any contraditction, to be honest.

Your posting is very childish.
