Surely this is unlikely what with us already having Cork, Morgan, Chaplow and Hammond and perhaps Lallana capable of doing a job alongside Davis. Not to mention the emergence of JWP over pre-season. Central midfield is an area I cannot see us strengthening any further.

Cork Morgan and Davis our the only central midfilders good enough for 90 minutes in the premiership, in my opinion. If say Morgan got a 3 game ban for losing his French coolness and Cork was out injured for a month, we'd be ****ed!

Brilliant player, really assured player who can defend and attack, can also chip in with a few goals too. He was always a stand out whenever I see Celtic alongside Ki in the centre of midfield. Would be a very astute signing but probably unlikely in an already occupied central midfield position.

Don't think so, I think they're just rehashing old stories to add a bit more beef to the article. That interest finished when we bought Jay Rodriguez, It was always a case of 1 or the other.

I read that as lazy journalism. As in " Saints in for a Celtic player = journo remembers we were in for Hooper last season so trots it out again to fill a few lines". Call me an old cynic...

I don't see why we wouldn't want to sign another central midfielder, they're very prone to getting suspended and we don't exactly have a wealth of proven Premier League talent in there. Then again, not sure how much stock I put in any of these media reports.

I disagree, apart from Davis there is precious little experience at a high level there. There is a fair chance Chaplow and Hammond might struggle in the Prem and Schneiderlin is still developing.

agree this would be a good signing - our midfield is good for championship but prem league whole other story. outside of davis, morgan and cork at a push we have very little.

 

i'm a bit worried there is very little movement in the market from us looking for new CBs

You're right! People forget that the PL is all about squads in-depth; whist on paper we may have a reasonably capable "first pick" midfield, they are all injury and emotion prone. At best you need two "first pick" sets of players in each position and W-P whilst being a really exciting prospect is not going to cope with Nasri, Tevez & Saurez just yet.

 

On the other hand we don't want to be bringing in a load of expensive misfits in here either - one or two obstinate personalities who think more of their salary packages than the team cause would cause mayhem; whatever the alleged diplomatic capabilities of Adkins he can't be expected to shape-up and bring into the fold too many "been-there done that" prima -donas (?) at one time and only a month ahead of the real ko.

It reminds me of the Maslow's hierarchy of Needs that we were taught at management school and the lack of greed of bankers who just love doing their jobs because the work in Canary Wharf, one of the best office facilities in the UK.
