Sometimes it can be better to keep things in the dark.

Ramirez a good example of this I guess, although we got him and had a massive thread about it (main board record?) I almost drove myself crazy waiting for it to be announced, each day it seemed to swing one way or the other, would've preferred not to have known until they announced it. Although different to your examples as we weren't disappointed at the end but I almost lost it over that 10 days or whatever it was

One ofthe problems is that the top Premier League clubs have a much larger depth of squad. I'm not sure the good PL experienced players are actually available. A lot of them sit on the bench or in the squads of the top 7 or 8 clubs, therefore you have to go looking in the Championship or even abroad. To get a quality PL player I think we are looking at a load initially, maybe then we can work on a permanent move. We all know what type of player we need, I'm just not sure he is for sale.

We know from last season that Jos is better than Fonte - it is a shame that he didn't get the chance to adapt to the PL that Jose and Yoshida have.

People are far too quick to write players off after a couple of bad performances.

Do we? Your opinion perhaps. I am not sure that I share it. This year's evidence is that Fonte can cope with the premiership and, on available evidence, Jos can't.

I would love Kjaer at the club, would fit in perfectly. UK based players are so over priced.

Hard to believe he is not on our shopping list. One of the highest rated defenders in Europe. Young but struggling to break into first team. Would be a perfect signing and not too expensive either. Better than what we have o would definitely not be a bench warmer.

I remember his name being mentioned in the summer during the Euro's , as a full international in dispute with his current club looking for a permanent home. On the face of it, a potentially good proposition for us although not sure if he'd be the replacement for Fonte or Yoshida.

Personally, I think we need that 'beast' of a centre half rather than the more the cultured defender.A younger version of Jaidi. The only name mentioned in the last 12 months that seems to fall immediately in to that bracket is the bloke from Twente, Douglas, although as he is rumoured to have rejected Newcastle & Fulham in the summer it seems unlikely that we would attract him ( at £4m plus).

AGREE 100%. Some sort of " clone " of John McGrath (God rest his soul) or Neil Ruddock..or Jim Steele.. but preferably one who didn't get booked every game, though.

Do you think Big John or Razor would get booked most games these days? I don't. I think it would be straight reds :) In Big John's case he would be given a straight red for scaring the opposition striker of today to death before the end of the warm-up. Great days.

My favourite Mc Grath story is the one where he looked daggers at a young opposition striker...... and then asked him if he was covered by BUPA

I remember Jeff Astle head butting McGrath. Had no effect but 10 mins later Astle was out cold miles from the ball. No-one in the Dell saw a thing, let alone the ref.

Just watches him against Blackburn in the featured fl show. I wouldn't want him if he was free. Would be the worst signing I've seen in a long time at st marys

Spoke to a mate of mine who scouts in the North West

He has a poor opinion of Dann and doesnt understand our reported interest.

Bit worrying if true
