david in sweden Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 But with Fonte and Yoshida playing well and developing a decent partnership now...which one would make way for Dann? I guess Jos is our only cover for those two so far, therefore it makes sense to sign this guy and have 4 CBs to choose from in case of injury etc..[/QUOTE] +
Saint Matty 76 Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Don't think Yoshida is playing well, can't pass and looks sketchy quite a lot. Think it will be Fonte - New CB from Janurary onwards.

SuperMikey Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 I think Yoshida's been decent for us. Don't forget he's come from the Dutch league which is much less physical than the Prem and is up against players of superior quality.

Eric The Red Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Looks to me like this story is coming from the Blackburn end. I think they're trying to generate some interest as they probably need to offload some expensive players. I certainly wouldn't have him over Yoshida who I think is settling in well

Saint Charlie Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 What has that got to do with anything? That he is still adapting. Was reading an interview with Oguchi Onyewu who played for AC Milan, currently at Malaga and he joined newcastle in a Jan window a fe years ago. He said it was very hard to adapt to the Prem - the pace, intensity and that it is totally different to any other league (he has also played in Germany, Portugal and the US so knows about lots of them). He said he wished he hadn't been put straight into the team, and that he had been able to use a pre season to get acustomed.
Baldbarbarian Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 not keen on Dann, although he doesnt fit the mould of buying young upcoming players I think Matty Upson from Stoke would be a good signing
UpweySaint Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Had this conversation with others and seems to be an agreement Dann would do a job but at the right price. For me he knows the league and could well come in and do a job but value for money seems to be found abroad. I'd draw the line at six million personally but sure others would disagree on his value and ability. I'd just like to point out that january is difficult and is not the ideal time to be bringing in players who need time to settle. Better options? Saint Garrett Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 not keen on Dann, although he doesnt fit the mould of buying young upcoming players I think Matty Upson from Stoke would be a good signing Upson is also dreadful. I'd rather have Fonte, Yoshi, and Jos over Upson or Dann. If we're going to bring in a CB, they have to be dead certs to start.
ottery st mary Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Has anyone seen Upson play in the last 2 years?..........Crepe:rolleyes: Dann is not the answer either.. Fonte , Yoshida and Jos is OK.... with two youngsters in Stephens and Turnbull coming through.. I would rather have a top class utility player who can play Defensive mid_field/CENTRE BACK. Not sure who the answer is yet...but sure NA has got the task in hand.

UpweySaint Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Ok ok, Dann is not going to be a world beater but could he do a job for a season and a half or more while we see the likes of Stephens progress? If we all agree we need a bit more back up for the season I think he does that, if the price is right. Does anybody have any other realistic options? It is not ok to have 2 CBs plus one not of Prem quality then two rookies. If Fonte say was injured for 3months then either Jos or Yos got a red card we would lose all 3 games they missed for sure. We absolutely need at least 1 CB in the window.
Baldbarbarian Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 I think Upson could do a job, its an area we def need cover in. Also is Fox suitable cover for Shaw at left back?, Luke is a good prospect but having Fox as back up fills me with dread! IMO Fox is an adequate back up LB for a team near the bottom of the league. I would say I would feel more confident seeing Fox in the side than if I saw Hooiveld. Obviously Shaw is miles better. Saint Garrett Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 I still stand by the fact that if we are going to bring in anyone, they've got to be better than what we have. Whats the point in bringing in a player just to sit on the bench as back up. If we want to improve as a team, the way transfers work if you bring in a player better than what you have, and then that player bucks his ideas up or is our first backup. I'd suggest Dann is an improvement on Jos so improves to squad and has shown, in the past, the kind of ability to suggest he could genuinely challenge Fonte and Yoshida. Genuine premiership class players who would want to join us, could settle in well, not cost ridiculous fees/wages and are proven at this level are few and far between ... Agree with this, in the situation we are in you want to try and get the best first team you can, we are most likely going to out of the FA cup at first attempt so wll just have league games to worry about so it's not numbers we need it's quality. We have enough squad at the moment so we need players to challenge the first team spots.

People are far too quick to write players off after a couple of bad performances. Jos isn't better than Fonte. Not sure who the answer is yet...but sure NA has got the task in hand. Celtic have found Wanyama and Ambrose by looking at African nations for players... No reason we can't do the same. tajjuk Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 totally agree would love this he is a beast of a defender, but doesnt really help us in January Well throw some money at them and they might sell to cash in, but I would imagine Hangeland is looking at a top 6 club, hence why he hasn't signed a new contract. Saint 76er Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Surely we wouldn't waste 6 million (or probably anything) on Dann, that would be madness. If a British player capable of helping us through this season, then maybe Curtis Davies. If a foreign player, then Kana-Biyek is a beast if they can get him, but would cost. Or push the boat out for Hangeland. Fulham won't want to sell but he leaves for free in the summer. If we want to share in the PL riches from next season then this is the move they should make happen.
studentsaint Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Scott dann is not a player that demands immediate first team action. Therefore 6m for a back up defender would be worse than j rods fee. We need to strengthen at the back, but strengthening is upgrading what we've got, not adding another average one and losing 6m in the process. Avenue Saint Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 If dann is comparable to the new found form Fonte is displaying, i'ld say go for it. With jos who hasn't really settled and been unfortunate, but as 4th centre back with ability to perform like he did last season, and dann competing with Yoshi... That is a step in the stronger direction.
