What has that got to do with anything?

That he is still adapting. Was reading an interview with Oguchi Onyewu who played for AC Milan, currently at Malaga and he joined newcastle in a Jan window a fe years ago. He said it was very hard to adapt to the Prem - the pace, intensity and that it is totally different to any other league (he has also played in Germany, Portugal and the US so knows about lots of them).

He said he wished he hadn't been put straight into the team, and that he had been able to use a pre season to get acustomed.

Had this conversation with others and seems to be an agreement Dann would do a job but at the right price. For me he knows the league and could well come in and do a job but value for money seems to be found abroad. I'd draw the line at six million personally but sure others would disagree on his value and ability. I'd just like to point out that january is difficult and is not the ideal time to be bringing in players who need time to settle. Better options?

Has anyone seen Upson play in the last 2 years?..........Crepe:rolleyes:

Dann is not the answer either..:p

Fonte , Yoshida and Jos is OK.... with two youngsters in Stephens and Turnbull coming through..:)

I would rather have a top class utility player who can play Defensive mid_field/CENTRE BACK.

Not sure who the answer is yet...but sure NA has got the task in hand.:D

Ok ok, Dann is not going to be a world beater but could he do a job for a season and a half or more while we see the likes of Stephens progress? If we all agree we need a bit more back up for the season I think he does that, if the price is right. Does anybody have any other realistic options?

Agree with the first two points but not the rest.

Jos is not ok.

It is not ok to have 2 CBs plus one not of Prem quality then two rookies.

If Fonte say was injured for 3months then either Jos or Yos got a red card we would lose all 3 games they missed for sure.

We absolutely need at least 1 CB in the window.

I think Upson could do a job, its an area we def need cover in.

Also is Fox suitable cover for Shaw at left back?, Luke is a good prospect but having Fox as back up fills me with dread!

IMO Fox is an adequate back up LB for a team near the bottom of the league. I would say I would feel more confident seeing Fox in the side than if I saw Hooiveld.

Obviously Shaw is miles better.

I still stand by the fact that if we are going to bring in anyone, they've got to be better than what we have. Whats the point in bringing in a player just to sit on the bench as back up. If we want to improve as a team, the way transfers work if you bring in a player better than what you have, and then that player bucks his ideas up or is our first backup.

I'd suggest Dann is an improvement on Jos so improves to squad and has shown, in the past, the kind of ability to suggest he could genuinely challenge Fonte and Yoshida. Genuine premiership class players who would want to join us, could settle in well, not cost ridiculous fees/wages and are proven at this level are few and far between ...

Agree with this, in the situation we are in you want to try and get the best first team you can, we are most likely going to out of the FA cup at first attempt so wll just have league games to worry about so it's not numbers we need it's quality. We have enough squad at the moment so we need players to challenge the first team spots.

I would spunk my wad on Ryan Shawcross

Good player, not quite sure of Stoke have offered him a new contract yet - but there is talk that they're trying to tie him down long-term.

If he does move it's going to be to one of the established big boys anyway.

We know from last season that Jos is better than Fonte - it is a shame that he didn't get the chance to adapt to the PL that Jose and Yoshida have.

People are far too quick to write players off after a couple of bad performances.

Jos isn't better than Fonte. He scored more goals but Fonte is the better alround defender, and certainly more suited to Prem football - quicker, better on the ball, more composed defender etc.

Celtic have found Wanyama and Ambrose by looking at African nations for players... No reason we can't do the same.

I'd rather take a chance on someone like that - much in the way Celtic have done - than sign a guy who isn't any better than what we have already.

totally agree

would love this he is a beast of a defender, but doesnt really help us in January

Well throw some money at them and they might sell to cash in, but I would imagine Hangeland is looking at a top 6 club, hence why he hasn't signed a new contract.

Surely we wouldn't waste 6 million (or probably anything) on Dann, that would be madness.

If a British player capable of helping us through this season, then maybe Curtis Davies.

If a foreign player, then Kana-Biyek is a beast if they can get him, but would cost.

Or push the boat out for Hangeland. Fulham won't want to sell but he leaves for free in the summer. If we want to share in the PL riches from next season then this is the move they should make happen.

Nixon back in the mix, saying we watched Dann on Fri and another player being watched tomorrow night. Priorities are CB and def mid, expects decent spend but not huge like the summer.

Just reporting what he said...

Any fixture that we're aware of ?

Transfer windows are so much better when you have half an idea of what is going on and who we're looking at! Gets bloody boring when you haven't got a clue what's happening 'behind the scenes'!

Can lead to a few good surprises though.

Was most disappointing 8 years ago when we thought that Dawson and Reid were in the bag....... only for Spurs to gazump us. Sometimes it can be better to keep things in the dark.
