Tamesaint Posted 22 July, 2012 Share Posted 22 July, 2012 (edited) Ladbrokes ( a bit more accessible than Betfair) price Rickie to be top scorer at 80/1, You can get 125/1 on Tadanari, 150/1 for Adam and Jay. Jay and Rickie could be worth a small wager. The price that stands out for me is the 18/1 for us to beat Man City. You can get this at Stan James and Bet Victor amongst others. 18/1 is bookies parlance for saying that we do not deserve to be anywhere on the same pitch as Man City. To put it into context, when we were a division kower than Man U in the 1976 Cup Final we were quoted at 6/1. 18/1 is an amazing price and stranger things have happened than a Saints victory at Citeh. I'm old enough to remember that, and even though I've never been a gambler I thought at the time those were ridiculous odds for a two horse race. I was a very poor and cautious student though... But 18-1 on a two horse race? A sending off, or an atrocious bit of bad luck for City and it's entirely possible, let alone us playing out of our skins. Are any of the companies who offer an introductory bet for regestering offering reasonable odds??

suewhistle Posted 22 July, 2012 Share Posted 22 July, 2012 Just had a look and the Italian government prevents me betting (even using Expat-shield). I'm going to have to wait a week until I'm in the UK.. 9-1 for top ten looks a possibility too..

You'll probably get at least 20s and there will likely be a mad day of introductory offers for the first game of the season
Scudamore Posted 22 July, 2012 Share Posted 22 July, 2012 Man City have lost two games at home in the Premier League in the last two seasons. I suggest you save your money for something more enjoyable than boosting the bookies pockets.

Apart from the arguments I've had already on here, he only needs to get a long term injury.

Saint86 Posted 23 July, 2012 Share Posted 23 July, 2012 Why? Because he was **** hot in the champ and L1? Some of our fans our dumb....... I also agree with the original poster. I can see him sitting as a deep striker and JayRod being the main man up front. I love lambert to peices and think he is a quality player. But... his pace is lacking and their is no denying that, and he won't get the same luck with free headers (eg watford) that he got in the lower leagues. Another point. Managers will look at saints and go, who are the threats - top name will be lambert, and he will find himself man marked all game every game. I think he will play a key role for us with flick ons, passing, penalties and free kicks. But I would not be substantially on him being our top scorer. I would bet a couple of quid on 90-1 however Make of that what you will. But i think a fan who analyses whether he will be our top scorer is not quite as dumb as someone who blindly believes that nothing has changed with our promotion to the premier and that Lambert can instantly be expected to bang in 15-20 goals this year. - What if he gets another injury for example? Seriously dude, don't go lambasting your own teams fans for putting across a reasonable point.

I dont usually bet but Ive got £5 on a Saints win at 18-1 and £5 on a draw at 5-1 - so thats almost 12-1 against Saints getting any kind of a result. As you say, anything can happen in a two horse race Edited 23 July, 2012 by buctootim

Most teams will, rightly or wrongly, look at us and think they can get three points and so will focus more on their own game.
Saint_DB Posted 23 July, 2012 Share Posted 23 July, 2012 Personally, I don't think many teams will look to bother man making any of our players. Most teams will, rightly or wrongly, look at us and think they can get three points and so will focus more on their own game. Hopefully that is the case so we can capitalise. However these days teams, particularly the Prem clubs, often prepare for games by looking extensively at the opposition these days, and singling out key players to neutralise is a massive part of that. I would expect defenders to have both eyes on Rickie and Adam for most games this season as the opposition will know that they are a big factor in the way we play football.
