alpine_saint Posted 23 July, 2012 Posted 23 July, 2012 I expect us to survive - just. Key player will be Billy Sharp - I just think if he gets his head right he still has something in the reserve tank.
SuperMikey Posted 23 July, 2012 Posted 23 July, 2012 1st-8th - Highly highly unlikely. 9th-12th - Not impossible, but very difficult. 13th-16th - Where we should be aiming for. 17th-20th - Disappointing. Lallana will have a great season.
This Charming Man Posted 23 July, 2012 Posted 23 July, 2012 Survival. Anything more would be a bonus. I know there is still time left, but we really haven't strengthened with the (proven) quality I thought we would. I'm happy with the signings so far and think it's enough to give us a decent shot of staying up but that's about it.

I'm happy with the signings so far and think it's enough to give us a decent shot of staying up but that's about it. This is the crux of it for me. Clyne, Gazza and Rodriguez are all highly rated and potentially decent signings, but I think we're still one or two players short of proven top quality. In the spine of the team we have Davis, who while being an older head was rather found out at top level in the only season he was there. At centre back I think we'd be extremely suspect with Fonte and Hooiveld together and think (as Adkins has hinted) that we need to bring in at least 1, maybe 2 centre backs. Steven Davis is a much needed addition at CM. Up front I think RL is still plenty good enough to be the fulcrum of the side he has become, but the strikers around him will need to step up. I hope we get at least 1 top CB. I think Clyne could well become a star, but I still have concerns over left back and right mid and I have no idea at all if JRod is going to as good as we're all expecting from his price tag. And it is due to be a massive season for Lallana where we'll finally see just how good he actually is against top level defenders. Edited 23 July, 2012 by The Kraken

StrangelyBrown Posted 23 July, 2012 Posted 23 July, 2012 I think we'll start reasonably well, but the season will fall apart a bit over Christmas when the injuries start to mount up and we'll finish somewhere between 14th and 17th. Although if we sign a couple of more experienced players with a lot of Premier league experience, we may do a bit better. I fully expect us to get hammered by someone like Stoke (probably both home and away).
Avenue Saint Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Still expect us to finish 9th! Any revisions?
The9 Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 I'd like to see a link to the SaintsWeb season predictions from the front page, I know I may have mentioned West Brom and Swansea potentially for the drop... but hoping I mentioned Villa too...
CB Fry Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 I think opposite. Five points from the big three in August to get all the pundits falling over themselves to dish out the patronising pats on the head left right and centre. We'll be talk of the town except for losing to Wigan in the middle of it all just to keep everyone on MOTD chuckling away. I think we'll have a Blackpool/Hull season. Blistering before Christmas nearly 30 points on board on NYD, hit the wall and limp in, but comfortably, 15th or 16th. Hopefully good enough to keep Nige in work. Lallana to struggle, Jay Rod to be a sensation. Cork and Morgan shine. We score billions of goals but still have terrible GD. We'll concede six about three times to the CL teams but also to someone like Fulham or Everton. Sorry I can't be more specific but it's not even August. Well I was right about Nigel. He was good enough to be still in work. And Jay Rod, Cork and Morgan? I thank you. Got the season the wrong was round though.
The Kraken Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 For me its still entirely dependent on one or two signings; I'm convinced Jos Hooiveld and Jose Fonte are nowhere near good enough as a defensive combination to consistently cut it in the Premier League. Perhaps one of them alongside a new signing would be ok but I think they're both too prone to individual errors and we very much need a commanding leader for them to play alongside. Get a proper decent CB in and I think we'll finish around 15th or 16th. Get 2 in (which despite Adkins hinting at I don't think we will) and I think 10th is possible. Get none and I think we'll get relegated. Hmmm. A hit and miss prediction.
The9 Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 There are actually some pretty good shouts on here. I'm not sure if I did start that comparison thread though - or someone said "did this last week" or something.
The9 Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Hmmm. A hit and miss prediction. We got 2 CBs in (Yoshida and Forren) and have a good chance of 10th - or failing that we "only got one starting CB in" and are likely to come between 10th and 15th. Hooiveld and Fonte together have also been hit and miss, so fair enough I think.
