They could be in big trouble... if found guilty, it's a pretty cut-and-dried case of cheating.

I'm more confident that cases are dealt with fairly and equally these days, now that Max Mosley is no longer in charge (horrible little weasel of a man) - but I still have no idea what kind of penalty might be applied.

If the dodgy engine map has been applied at only this event, then I expect them to have their results from the race expunged. But if they've been cheating all year, then there's no predicting what the penalty will be.

The words of Jo Bauer suggest it may be a German GP-only issue:

"Having examined the engine base torque map of car numbers 01 and 02 it became apparent that the maximum torque output of both engines is significantly less in the mid rpm range than previously seen at other events," said Bauer in the statement.

Hmmm... it seems like they've got away with it for this race, but I expect the rules to get "clarified" in the new few days.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see an appeal from some rival teams against them getting away with it.

So Vettel spits his dummy out when Hamilton does something he is clearly entitled to do within the rules of the sport, while maintaining that he did nothing wrong in overtaking Button while clearly outside the boundaries of the track.

Oh dear. I used to like Vettel but he doesn't appear to be a very good sport when he isn't miles out in front like he was throughout last season.

If the FIA and Formula 1 want to really make the sport a driving challenge, they should source 24 identical cars to be allocated by random draw before the practice sessions.

I dont understand why RedBull and Ferrari should be continuously penalised for being innovative and actually having a massive knock-on effect down-the-line on the performance and economy of the cars you and I drive every day.

He's German, FFS.

Its a national characterisitc that they mercilessly hammer others then whine like babies when "the others" have the temerity to fight back.

Wow - way to fight two very opposing arguments in the same post...teams should be as innovative as possible in their car designs but all cars should be the same!
