Thedelldays Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 anyone else seen it just watched it quite an eye opener the level of detail they monitor players is immense...just by giving a player a morning off at the right time could have a big impact... also, we have introduced GPS and all the science all the way down to our u14's which (apparently) has raised a few eye brows around the country and in other sports.. have a look if you have not done so....an interesting watch
Crazy Diamond Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 Just seen it myself, you're right. Staggering level of detail.
Tamesaint Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 It was a good feature and as you say the amount of detail that they collect was staggering. I had been told before that each player's urine is tested before each training session. If your pee is dodgy you do not train. I wonder why Burley didn't introduce something like that!! jawillwill Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 I enjoyed the background music to the interview. There was something quite relaxing yet uplifting about it.
MarkSFC Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 I believe someone once said "its all in the detail". It would appear we understand the detail behind the detail.

The checking of the urine is to determine how hydrated each player is. If it is not quite right they have to rehydrate before they can train. We do the same for everyone on matchdays as well. Chelsea take this one step further.... They have what is effectively a computerised vending machine. Based on the analysis of the urine, the machine will dispense a drink made up of the right vitamins, iron etc etc. for that particular player...... and then there is the swimming pool with adjustable height and xray machines built into the walls of the swimming pool

Although it does eerily remind me of "The Island" with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson...
rooney Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 The clip on Saints Player is really impressive. Just up NA street I feel. Cannot imagine Burley or HR getting involved with this.
revolution saint Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 What I liked is when Mo talked about only collecting data that they could use. The problem with this kind of thing is that they can collect too much data and get swamped in analysis paralysis but it seems like they know what they're doing. All good stuff. derry Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 They will be fitting out the night clubs next. Can't see all that attention to detail, then players out until the early hours drinking.

Hopkins Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 Who are you? I doubt anyone important, his insight is common knowledge and is pretty standard practice. I learnt about this at Uni. Also Adkins mentions it during this Q&A

I heard that at Arsenal, the sports science dictates everything rather than being supportive in training objectives. A step to far when not everything is logical and the manager/coaching staff should have the control.

jawillwill Posted 24 July, 2012 Share Posted 24 July, 2012 FFS I knew they shouldn't have put that mini-documentary on Saints Player. Now everyone is doing it and therefore we've lost any slight advantage we may have had going into the Man City match: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18887653
