Saints interested in Lens apparently?

Of all the players we've signed or been seriously linked with, this one is most exciting. That's not a dis on the other players we've signed. I'm actually excited about the prospect of seeing Lens play with them.

In Sharp and Lambert, you've got players who'll create opportunities out of scrambles, deflections and half-chances. Right midfield has been an identified weakness from the start of the window. Lens looks capable of creating an insane amount of trouble for the opposition. Good fit for the berth, from all accounts.

The pace and attacking potential a right side of Lens and Clyne would have would be fantastic. It's actually quite exciting, if it happens of course. Time will tell.

@RikElfrink: Morgen in het #ED een analyse over #Matavz en #Lens. Als #Lens wordt verkocht, mag #Brands het geld investeren in een nieuwe aanvaller.

Maybe PSV are planning to sell to reinvest in a new attacker? Check out ed.nl tomorrow it seems.

I agree. Makes the left side look slightly underwhelming though by comparison, especially if Lallana moves more central.

Not when Shaw breaks through!! We'll have the new Gareth Bale down the left as well!!

Depends when he breaks through though. We probably have to give the lad some time to develop.

Haven't you heard how brilliant he was against a Swiss part time outfit the other night? So good we decided not too sign an experienced ledt sided player just about to break into the Dutch national team. If you're old enough you're good enough FFS.

Good luck with your attempt - it's like trying to stop an avalanche with a ski stick... or block the Nile with a twig...

Life is someone else's dream. There's nothing any of us can do to change our behaviour. That's in the hands of Colin (the chap whose dream we're all in).

I thought everyone knew this? FFS!

P.s. Colin had a cheese supper last night. Make of that what you will.

Being live on TV will not influence the progress of any new signings whatsoever. It's the 1st day of the Olympics - there wil probably be less people watching on TV than there will be in the stadium (and that won't be many either).

This article suggests they will sell for 10 million euros. The fans comments are interesting. Some would definitley sell for 8-10 million whereas others say he couldn't be replaced for that sum. A couple of posters even suggest that he won't be a starter for PSV next season.

One poster says that he wants to make it clear that PSV are not the "Football LIDL" anymore!

They signed Narsingh who is very highly rated and plays out wide.

Clearly if we are ambitious and rate Lens then we have to pay big for him. Will be interesting to see if we have other targets out wide. Seem to be aiming bigger than the Jarvis, Matt Phillips type.

 I loved this one -

Verkopen...schreeuwt iedereen hier.

Says that MLG on the Saintsweb forum is a bit of a muppet and that Glasgow Saint seems ITK

Lens provides control over immediate future in the hands of PSV

25/07/2012 20:23

Jeremain Lens (24), PSV announced that he will force no transfer to Southampton. The English researcher did last week a bid of five million euros at the attacker, but the Brabant being off.

The attitude of PSV is to him a signal that he has a serious chance in the center of the attack and that is the club where he asked for. If PSV eventually snaps when Southampton a higher bid is that the player is a sign that a departure for him the best. By this stance, he directs his near future entirely in the hands of PSV.

Last season lost Lens place as his base right winger. Interim coach Phillip Cocu did eventually as a center striker called on him and that what went Lens concerns fine. To his great joy, the new coach **** Advocaat let him know that he initially sees as central striker.

Got to admire our ambition in going for him, but I don't think we'll secure it.

No you haven't. Any Premiership club can make tentative enquiries for most half decent players around the world.

I'll only admire our ambition when we start signing some of these players. Right now, signing players from the NPC team of the year is leaving me feel slightly underwhelmed.

I'm glad you're not making our signings then. Anyone that's not impressed with signing Clyne either hasn't seen anything of him or knows nothing about football.

Lens in the PSV starting line up for a game this evening it would appear...

@RikElfrink: Opstelling #PSV tegen #Paok: Tyton; Hutchinson, Marcelo, Bouma, Willems; Toivonen, Van Bommel, Strootman; Narsingh, Lens, Mertens #psvpao

Yep, fair point, it certainly didn't work last year when we signed players from the FL1 team of the year

Although you would have to say that there is a seismic difference between league one to championship and championship to prem (not that I necessarily agree with the charming man.)

Difference is far smaller than most people think as we proved last season. Bottom half premier league is no better than top 3 championship. Top 5 PL is a different matter.

Why would you have to say that?

You can think it if you like, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to. I completely disagree. There's very little gap between lower prem and upper championship, consistently proved year after year with promoted teams, relegated teams, cup games and championship signings making a successful step up. The gap is between the upper prem teams and the rest.

Every season people seem to crave 'proven premiership players', yet 99% of the time this seems to mean players who've proven to be very average in the premiership, or worse, or perhaps had a blip of short term good form. Far rather sign people based on believing they're good footballers with an exciting future.

Promoted teams routinely get relegated, often the year after promotion. Last year was a big exception.
