Saints interested in Lens apparently?

I think if we were to go in with a bid around £5m-£6m, I think he'll be on his way here for talks. Some reports saying they want around £8m but it just seems a bit steep IMO.

As with all our transfers, if we want the player, we'll put every bit of effort into getting them.

I'd always expect the first bid to be rejected. If you were buying a player and they accept your first offer, to me i'd be thinking, ah maybe we should have offered less.

First bid go in lower than what you are prepared to pay and test the water..

@RikElfrink: I have figured out how high the bid of #Lens was at #Southampton.

@RikElfrink: #Southampton on the bid #Lens of PSV did was 6 million. Later around eleven more on ed.nl

@RikElfrink: #PSV vindt een bod op #Lens pas serieus als het minstens acht cijfers voor de komma bevat.

@RikElfrink: #PSV wil dus minstens 10 miljoen euro voor #Lens.

And for those who understand English better than Dutch...

@RikElfrink: PSV # # Lens is a bid only if it seriously at least eight digits before the comma contains.

@RikElfrink: # PSV is therefore at least 10 million # Lens.

Basically, PSV won't take the offer seriously until it gets to 10m Euros. (£7.8m)

Can't see us not going that high, pretty sure we'll agree a fee but it'll come down to the players willingness.

We have just 'saved' c.£5m by going for Gazzaniga instead of Butland....so could redeploy that and still stay withing the overall transfer budget (if indeed there is a fixed budget)

PSV allows Lens not leave without a fight

LONDON - Jeremain Lens is not without a struggle away at PSV. The club wants at least 10 million euros for the striker received. Last week Southampton are reported with a bid of 6 million.

PSV have that bid off the table and would only talk about sales at the time that a two-digit miljoenenbod on the table.

The moment a club names a price it means they are willing to sell, and probably want to sell as well. Also, if we've bid 6m and they want 10m then 8m would probably do it. None of which means we'll get him but it's encouraging nonetheless.

Is he as good as them?

That's the question. If he's in the dutch squad, I'd say yes.

Young went to Man U for 18m wasn't it? I don't think you'd get the other two for less than £10m what with the young and English player Tax.

Massive step up to the prem and he's only on the fringes of the Dutch squad. If we pay anything over 5MM it would be a bit of a gamble in my opinion.

I see it didn't take you long to rework the old Pulis or Forecast joke.

We need another victim for these gags now Fourpast (PMSL) has gone.

But Steve De Nofingers, or Steve De Foreskin don't have the same ring to them do they ?

Looks like 10m Euros is the price .... If we stump that up I think the club will let him then decide -

If we wait a little while the Euro will be worth peanuts and we can get him for a song by paying Sterling or maybe pay more in installments to be cheaper in pounds?

ffs, he looks awesome..I know it is a YouTube clip and all that

He does, and I think people look at SDR last year and how good he looked etc - but let's not kid ourselves, this Lens fella is playing for a huge European club and has alot more about him that SDR quite clearly.

I know he's rated very highly back in Holland, and IMO he's easily a mid-table and above PL player, so we'd be pulling one hell of a signing off if it happens.

which would fit in with our transfer policy this summer. We've made 3 excellent signings so far and a very promising goalkeeper. Clyne, Rodriguez and Davis are all what could be considered lt least mid table players as well.

Very happy with our dealings so far, all young players (Davis isn't that old either tbf) and all with the ability to improve and get better...and another way to look at it, their price will only rise.

Give it a few years and I reckon we could provide a fair few England internationals, just as Villa did a few years back. Lallana, Cork, Rodriguez, Clyne - all have the ability IMO.

Not forgetting Shaw and Stephens and Schneiderlin for France.

I agree, we've made some very good signings. We've got some top young players with all seem to have th right sort of attitude as well.

I thought it might be useful to compare Lens' videos with the video of another hyped player from Holland, but who went on to fail in the Premier League:

"Ryan Babel Liverpool's New Signing"

To me Lens looks much quicker with his skills so I'm quite optimistic that he could cut it

Apparently it was 6million euros plus De Ridder. If we improved our offer to 5m euros they are prepared to sell.

Just back from Belgium with a few Euros left over - happy to throw them in if it swings it. Lens looks like the replacement for Oxo that we hoped SDR would be but wasn't so hoping the club get their man this time.

Now, how about those 2 CBs, and what about the LB spot now that the Buttner deal is off, and despite Paulo G as GK understudy, there's still the new GK place to fill. Keep busy chaps.
