Saints interested in Lens apparently?

Really cant see why we would want another forward.....

He has scored 19 goals in the two seasons, playing either behind the main striker or out wide.

Sounds like we'd bring him in to play wide and challenge Guly on the right. Can also play in the hole so covers 2 or 3 positions. Would be a cracking signing by the sound of it.

And finally, this is the 'exciting deal' that Graeme Bailey tweeted about weeks ago!

On his Wiki page:

PSV Eindhoven

On 21 May 2010, PSV contracted Lens for 4 years. PSV-player Dirk Marcellis was also involved in this deal, as Marcellis was transferred to AZ.He was given no. 9 shirt. First year in PSV was good for the player. He was moved from striker position to flank, being more utilised on both wings or working behind strikers as a second striker. He struggled to score in first few games, but eventually got used to the new position. He reached Europa League quarter-finals with the team, scoring 3 goals in 11 matches, and reached the score of 10 Eredivisie goals in 33 games, while the Eindhoven-based team only got to 3rd place, despite being the table leaders for the most of the 2010-11 season. In the beginning of 2011-2012 season his jersey number was changed to no. 11, which was free since the departure of Nordin Amrabat to Kayserispor in January 2011.On 6 November 2011,he came in from the bench against Heracles and scored a stunning hat-trick, his first since joining PSV.

Seems he has been converted to a winger and this would strengthen us out wide.

....the infinite number of possible problems that can occur with injuries, suspensions and loss of form cannot be ignored.

It seems that NA believes in both belt and braces and with a fixed squad to choose from it does no harm to have an extra face.

Survival is an absolute priority and challenge for a top six (Euro spot) needs extra resources and so we need all the back-up we can get.

NOTE; Last season Redknapp had FIVE top strikers to choose from at Spurs...and they still struggled to make a Euro spot...

Suppose we best have one for the thread... the obligatory YouTube complilation!

Crikey...on that showing you could be forgiven for thinking NA might've found a prince to someone's number 7 crown. Get him on the bus on the basis of the goal around 1min in IMO

Don't know anything about him but sounds like an excellent player. With all due respect to our other signings this is the sort of player I'd expect us to be looking at if we are to compete somewhere above 15th place. Someone on the fringes of a top full international side who is not getting enough of a look in at a top European side.

It would be great if we are in the same position and struggle to make a euro spot.

Be a lot better than struggling not to make a relegation spot ;)

This...especially as there has been murmerings of Zaha/Michu/De Bruyne as well. Certainly was our problem position last season.

Not really, we never really played like that. We've always had 2 central midfielders who sit back, protect the back 4 and spread it wide to attacking fullbacks and wingers. That's why Chaplow never worked out playing centrally, he pushed forward too much and upset the balance. We don't play with a Lampard/Gerrard type attacking midfielder who scores 15 goals a season.
