Starting XI vs Man City

Am I nearly alone in not being wowed by Ward-Prowse yet?

Don't get me wrong - he looks pretty good and I have high hopes, but he's nowhere near my starting XI at the moment.

I do genuinely believe in the wisdom of crowds though - so I might have missed something?

Schneiderlin, Davies, Cork, (even) Hammond are all ahead of him in my mind

De Ridder will not be good enough for the Premier League - end of..............He doesn't know the offside rule for a start!

Based on last season I agree, but Hammond, Richardson, Chaplow all improved massively after promotion from League One, there's no reason why it can't happen again with other players.

With the squad how it is at the moment...

K. Davis

Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Fox

Guly S. Davis Schneiderlin Lallana

Lambert Lee

Gazzaniga Seaborne Harding Cork Chaplow De Ridder Rodriguez

Sharp not even on the bench?? And I don't think Lee will be match fit to start next month...

Cork is going to be seriously undercooked for the first month or so I reckon. Probably wont have had a single 90mins or anywhere near before City and for that reason won't play.

If Davis doesn't get clearance soon then I think JWP will at least make the bench.

Not sure Cork is on a holiday at the moment. I think playing against the Brazil side he played against the other night and the Senegal and Uruguay sides he will face in a competitive meaningful competition is a much harder pre season. More of a question would be will he know any new systems and formations.

Not really, I can't see him starting any of these games he may get the odd 15 minutes here and there but he won't be a starter.

With the possibility of 6 games in 3 weeks, no preseason to speak of and only an 18 man squad, none of the outfield players will only get the odd 15 minutes.

I look at all these squads and it just fills me with dread. It's going to be an exercise in damage limitation. I'll put money on City getting 4 or 5 on the opening day. We're in for a rude awakening!

The same Man City that struggled to beat QPR on the final day of the season when they had the title as an incentive. Don't be taken in by the hype. Saints are in this league on merit and the additions to the quad make our starting 11 even better than last year and with more quality options off the bench. We can win the opening game despite being away from home and we haven't even added a speedy RW to the mix yet!
