dubai_phil Posted 19 July, 2012 Share Posted 19 July, 2012 Well, Barry Lane hit the first ball of the tournament at the unlikely time of 6:30am this morning. We've heard all the build up, stupid long rough, flooded bunkers, lengthened course etc. Who have you got your money on? Me (we cannot gamble here) I'd have each ways on Mickelson, Franceso Molinari, Tiger. I wouldn't go near Rory or Darren just don't think their heads are right at the moment And outsiders? Ernie, Luke or Justin probably to keep things interesting. But somebody that the General Public have never heard of will make a name for themselves Amazingly, TV Coverage starts down here at 12:30 local and runs until late in the night - pretty unprecedented for us to get that much coverage, TV crews normally do a 5 hour split shift on days 1 & 2 of a tournament and run about 6 hours over the weekend. Looks like the boys in the box (so to speak) get Overtime for this one!
dubai_phil Posted 19 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 19 July, 2012 Hmmm. Will he keep it going?
Hatch Posted 19 July, 2012 Share Posted 19 July, 2012 I've sold the finishing positions on the spreads for Westwood at 26 Dufner at 38 Laird at 46 Plus an ew fixed odds bet with Westwood at 14s and Bill Haas at 150s

dubai_phil Posted 21 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 21 July, 2012 That was an entertaining end to proceedings last night. The Tiger roar and dear Gentleman Tom Watson - ridiculous shot out the 17th bunker, stupid 3 putts to be outside the cut line and then the 30 yarder on 18. Great stuff..... Compared to the pretty dull golf that preceded it for 11 hours. Really needs the wind to blow to make it "interesting" not getting the balls running mies along the fairways or the pitch & bumble onto greens makes this a strange tournament. Fair play to Scott & Snedecker though

dubai_phil Posted 22 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 22 July, 2012 That's what Major's are supposed to be about. Adam Scott played superbly for 68 holes and then the pressure hit. Really happy for Ernie, he is such a nice guy, and has had so many problems in the last few years looking after his kid and losing his focus. Made me a few bob as well. WIll have to get the signed Ernie Golf Caps I've collected over the years out onto ebay pdq. Oh and Tiger? Stop with the "you're back stuff" and learn how to hit a driver mate. I love you to death for all that you have achieved but until you blew up on the 6th today was like watching paint dry. That is not what you are about mate. Sort it out
St Chalet Posted 22 July, 2012 Share Posted 22 July, 2012 I'll get a couple signed if I bump into him in George again this year. Going to ask my SAP rep if he can sneak me in a four-ball.
Junction 9 Posted 22 July, 2012 Share Posted 22 July, 2012 Can someone explain to me why McDowell is joint 5th and not joint 4th.
dubai_phil Posted 22 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 22 July, 2012 Because Els, Scott, Woods & Snedecker all finished ahead of him GMac finished on -2 alongside Luke http://scores.theopen.com/en/Leaderboard.aspx#t_leaderboard I loved this year's Open, so many of the leaders had moments that looked like my golf today - especially Gmacs 80 yard hoick into the trees with a 3 wood

Sweet. Ernie probably did more to keep me golfing than anyone else. One year here I saw him with a perfect lie in the middle of the fairway hot a 3 wood 50 feet, and same year 3 putt from 4 feet. If he can do it why should us hackers get so wound up. (He still came second that year) (Oh and nice to hear David Cannon getting a bunch of mentions on the TV this year. He is a fantastic guy and he has made himself the best in the world at what he does having packed in a job oop north in a factory to risk it all as a freelance photographer. Why aren't they joint 4th?
Hatch Posted 23 July, 2012 Share Posted 23 July, 2012 Can someone explain to me why McDowell is joint 5th and not joint 4th. not sure if serious, but anyway. There are 4 players with better scores.
