seriously, the press he gets on here is sad at best

Or justified depending on your point of view - he's made 4 league appearances in 5 years as a pro and now struggles to even get non league loan moves. Professional footballer? Well it's not really him, is it? TBF It's not his fault he was given a 5 year contract but as the people paying his wages it is our concern, and in our interest. Personally I'd pay him off and get him out - he's never going to make it, we'll never use him and we can't sell him either - what's the point? Might as well just cut our losses.....

thats all very well, but you summed it up when you said 'he had been given a five year contract'. Who gave him it? Rupes I suppose? Or Wilde? Whoever it was gave him a right to earn wages for 5 years. I would not imagine he was on the kind of money that Ben Haim is on, so he was hardly bankrupting us, even in the days of admin. Unless it's a fact (something thats hard to find on here) that he was asked to move on during admin, then I think he gets a poor rap, considering he has never had a chance to prove himself. Personally cant really see the diffrence between him and Bart keeping his bum warm for 5 years, yet he doesnt get the flak.

Who cares? The cub are keeping him around, he isn't going to play for us, no harm done.

It's ridiculous the obsession some people have.

genuine question, are you friends/related to him as you have stuck up for him a fair bit lately ?

i have no personal opinion on the bloke, having never seen him play but the reports from loan clubs havent been great & all the stories of him being a bit arrogant & billy big balls when out in town don't help his case. fair play for getting a decent 5 yr contract ,i just wish it wasn't at my club.

I think the main issue people have is the contract he is on, and the fact that he is just an awful goal keeper and has managed to wangle such a long-deal. It's fair to say that's probably not all his fault but it's the way he acts that gets on peoples backs, so many people have seen him in social situations where he just acts like a ****, lording it around like he's gods gift to the game. Some people will say ''fair enough'', but i think he's taking the **** tbh. The sooner he's gone the better and we can leave all that pre-markus stuff behind us, as he's the only bit of dead wood left behind from that era.

You're right that he hasn't had a chance to prove himself with us except in training but he's had other chances and hasn't done very well with them. Bart, of course, did get a lot of stick after the Blackpool game (and a few others) so you're wrong about that. Difference is that Bart needed to play - and he's managed to get a league club to sign him whereas Tommy can't find a loan move to a non-league club - you'd think that speaks volumes about his ability wouldn't you? You're right though that the real problem lies with Lowe who gave him the 5 year contract. In the mean time, however, we're stuck with someone who is patently not good enough for league 2 - maybe not his fault, maybe not breaking the bank but he's not doing this for free either. He'll still be getting a good wage and I'd rather not contribute towards it.

Nope. I met the bloke a couple of times and he seemed alright just like a normal bloke. Yeah he has gone out and talks to women a few times but so would everyone else in his situation. Yes he seems to be a terrible keeper but some people on here call him all sorts of names simply because he isn't a very good player and was given a decent contract by the club. That situation is totally the fault of the club and Forecast is blameless IMO. Yes it wuld be better if he wasn't getting this money but the fact is that he is and it is not his fault in any way.

It's not his fault in any way! What do you mean so many people? I have read a couple of reports on here that have said he was out doing some stupid things. I've seen him out and about about five times and every time he was just having a quiet drink with some of the other players or chatting up some women. I still fail to see what he has done that is so awful enough to get a load of abuse from here.

Who cares? Anyone contributing to this thread - that's quite obvious, isn't it? You probably meant 'Why should we care?' though. I'll tell you why - it's because we're paying a player who has no future, no value and no worth. Anyone who pays to go games, buys a shirt etc contributes towards this. It may not be a lot of money but this isn't some community help scheme either.

But hopefully people will blame the appropriate parties (the ones who offered him the contract) rather than Tommy himself who is utterly blameless in this scenario.

he isn't the first by a long way and simply will not be the last...never ever recall such obsession though

Of course. I don't know the bloke and have no personal opinion on him either. I think it's still a legitimate question as to why he's still around and as, like all players, that will be based on opinion of his ability so he'll have to accept that - even if we haven't seen much of him, even his defenders would admit he doesn't stand much of a chance of a league career. Not his fault but neither should his continuing presence be something we shouldn't question (personal abuse aside).

Why question it though? I would think it was obvious. We have got rid of Bart and so need an understudy until we sign another keeper. As soon as his contract expires he will leave and will never play for us in a competitive game. It's pretty much a non story.

Serious question having gotten this far down the thread ... can you honestly recall one player we have had tied to a 5 year contract who has been so utterly inept? Who will never feature in a first team game and from the sounds of it has never been considered a viable option by any of our management teams. Cheers in advance if you can!!

We've got youth team keepers - probably more potential than Tommy. I thought we needed a pathway to the first team. Either way people want to talk about it, well probably just me now, and I think that's fine and he's really not getting that much of a hard time so what's the problem?

not one player no...but a succession of player who I am sure cost the club more dearly than old tommy.

this list of utterly crap players at saints in the last 7 years is endless...some actually cost us a fee

I am ashamed to be a Saints supporter when I see any player being made victim of a witch hunt on this or any forum. He has Nigel's support, he is part of his plans.

Any other player thinking of joining the club will have second thoughts if he or any of his friends/family read this type of thread. I'm sorry, but I can't believe this forum has sunk to such a level, that the Admins allow victimisation of any of our clubs players in this wayl Very sad indeed. :(

who says they don't..?

the club deem it perfectly fine to have him here......they clearly know what they are doing going off the results in the last few years

People calling him a tw*t and a c*ck on here yesterday I believe. Pretty uncalled for really. I would imagine they thought that youth keepers should continue their development with the youth team rather than the first team.

No he isn't don't be silly. I don't get the OTT abuse and obsession with this player but he clearly isn't in Nigel's plans. He is a stop gap for preseason until we sign another player

I think he originally came over as his translator, but obviously he has some coaching badges, so they've used their common sense and given in a coaching job...so he can do 2 jobs for the price of 1.

Good call in the grand scheme of things.

I have to say I admire the stand you have taken on this thread and wish a few other regulars would follow suit. I only said he must be in Nigel's plans because he's with the squad in France. I think his height of 6ft 7in must have appealed when we signed him, beyond that it's a mystery but doesn't call for the witch hunt he's being subjected too does it?
