They both need to go if the tories want to win the next election, the sad thing is that William Hague is turning out to be a decent politician but will never get voted in because the general public vote on looks and charisma rather than ability.

This man is considered to be a future (Tory) PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rory_Stewart

MP for Penrith - an area remote from most of the country and in need of an MP to understsand their local interest and represent them in Parliament.

Rory Stewart, born in Hong Kong, raised in Malaysia and Scotland and educated at the Dragon School, Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford, where he studied modern history and politics, philosophy and economics (PPE). He graduated with a First and while a student at Oxford, he was a summer tutor to Prince William and Prince Harry.

Given that loads of MPs have PPE degrees and how much of a collossally bad job that they make of running the economy (I make no distinction between parties, Balls is as bad as Osbourne is as bad as Brown is as bad as that liberal chap), it makes you wonder just how much of the syllabus in on the "E" bit of PPE

I actually do feel sorry for Conservative voters who've waited 12 years for this.

If you had set out and planned a way to reinforce all of the old stereotypes about the Tories (nasty, corrupt, in it for the wealthy), I doubt that you could have done a better job than the one they've done themselves.

I am afraid new Labour made the Tories look squeaky clean on corruption.

To give Rory Stewart his due, he's achieved far more than most Tories. Among other things, I believe he was governor of Basra or a region in Iraq during 'reconstruction', and he wrote a rather wonderful book about his lone walk across Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban. He's also led a large conservation programme to protect and rebuild the large number of historic buildings in Kabul.

He also lacks any narcissistic traits at all, really, and has a habit of saying what he thinks - which makes him completely unsuitable for political leadership of the 1%ers' parliamentary party.

The expense scandal shows that you don't need to be in office to be corrupt. Besides, New Labour had 12 years in power - that is plenty of time to build up a bit of sleaze. I have to hand it to the Conservatives for doing their very best to catch up as quickly as possible - the BSkyB deal in particular - is choice.

Aside from all that, why would Labour sleaze have any bearing on Tory sleaze? If Labour do a murder, are the Tories allowed to too?

Ta. Been thinking of a replacement for ages. That one just kinda leapt out at me.

Will be interesting to see if what buctootim says is true; that people react differently to different avatars.

I read that book, really good. I'm shocked to hear about his background tbh.

You were talking about sterotypes; I was pointing out that actually in many ways that the left are better at it than the Tories.

Sucking up to Murtdoch is what politicians of all parties do.

Too many politicians (of all parties) leave University, get a job as some MP's researcher, stand for an unwinnable seat, then get a winnable one and get elected.

They should all have to have a "proper" job for 10 years then they could come into parliament in their mid-thirties with a bit of experience of the real world.

No you weren't. You weren't even pointing out one way. You didn't even mention the left.

Now I'm not necessarily suggesting that every post on here should be fully linked and referenced, but I think one can reasonably expect a poster to remember what he or she has written a couple of posts ago.

Except for Vince Cable, presumably.

(I also think a basic recollection of current events is handy)

Number 1 on google images search for Voischek

and Number 2

I think its number 1.

Have number 1 and number 2 ever been seen together in the same room (us viewing it here doesn't count)?

I know it's a stretch at first, but the schozzles are similar and spookily, both pictures feature rectangles in the background :D
