Suhari Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 Thinking of booking one over southern Hampshire for our anniversary. Anyone done one? Would you recommend it? Suggestions on which company to go with?
bridge too far Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 I did this a few years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done! Don't know any companies in Hampshire - mine was over the Chilterns. I'd do it again - you really don't feel as if you're high up and everything is so quiet. The only thing you really hear is dogs' barking. Nice bottle of bubbly when you land completes a great experience. I'd do it again for sure. Our old next door neighbour's experience of it years ago was a completely different story however and even made it into a national newspaper, but best not go there...... itchen Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 I've done it twice - they were both freebies when Southampton had a balloon festival (well done Lib Dems for cancelling this in your brief period in power). The uncanny thing is the complete lack of wind noise as you travel with the wind. On one trip we landed on Winchester College's playing fields and on the other we landed near the air traffic control place in Swanwick. Well worth doing even if you have to pay! Block 18 Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 As above it was a great experience, and would definatly do it again. We went with a firm called Cameron Flights It was about £80 per head. Took off from Alton and landed in someones back garden. One tip take a hat as the burner gets a bit warm.

Used to love the balloon and flower festival. Happened a week after the Southampton Show, if I recall correctly. Does the Southampton Show still happen? Rorski Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 cameron-flights.co.uk. They cover the meon valley area. But be prepared not to get the day you book and you'll have to keep rebooking. Very weather dependent.

Turkish Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 I did one in the Serengeti when we went on safari, it was amazing. The highlight was flying over trees and the captain said to look over the side of the basket and running between the trees below us was a leopard with a cub in its mouth. We were literally about 20 foot above it scraping the top of the trees. Never done one in this country but it is a brilliant thing to do.
Dimond Geezer Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 My parents did one for their anniversary (also with Cameron), had to cancel & re-book 4 times, but when they finally got to do it, they really loved it, even my mum, who is afraid of heights. Pugwash Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 Did one several years ago. Usually an early start. Agree with earlier tip - take a hat, it's the radiant heat off the burner that gets you, particularly if you're tall. I was a bit red!
Jillyanne Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 Had a flight booked (birthday present) but company went bust with the foot and mouth thing, what was Longleat Balloons, absolutely gutted and never got any money back!
Suhari Posted 17 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 17 July, 2012 Thanks guys; going to do it. Given that I hate heights and don't like flying it could be fun!
