dune Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 In your opinion - clearly an opinion not shared by NA. You are assuming it was NA that wanted the contract extension.
sfc4prem Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 You are assuming it was NA that wanted the contract extension. Pahaha, of course it f*cking was. Just look at the amount of game time he got last season - Adkins clearly rates him as part of our team.

austsaint Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 Guly's a good player and deserves his chance at Prem football and the contract extension.
corsacar saint Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 Guly can be absolutely awful at times, but [at present] on his good days in my opinion,he is the best link up player we have and he will score some vital goals as well.
Leicestersaint Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 he has potential but is too inconsistent - maybe he will overcome this.
westofshannonsaint Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 If we needed to rely on Guly in anyway next season then id be very very worried! Do you really believe that a player who scored 10 goals in last years championship & can play in a few positions could not be used as a sub/back up in the prem? This is good news imho, but does it mean we will not strengthen the RM spot this transfer window?
cadiz saint Posted 16 July, 2012 Share Posted 16 July, 2012 Indeed, I've never heard someone abusing the guy, complaints when he deserves it, one or two when he doesn't. What I can't stand is when fans go 'Hey, lay off the guy will you?'. Why should I? I'd be told if I was doing a bad job, why can't I say it about a professional footballer? I would imagine that when you do a bad job you're told, it comes from someone who knows you're doing a bad job.

I don't think it's as easy as saying of course it f**king was, really! I do however think he more than deserves his chance and is no way as bad as some of you think. IMO he needs to play in the hole from now on though as he'll probably get torn apart in the prem if he plays on the right

Noodles34 Posted 16 July, 2012 Share Posted 16 July, 2012 Can't believe you have never heard the abuse Guly gets, it is quite embarrassing some games, and usually totally unjustified. Have you never heard the ****s who phone in to Radio Solent after the game and blame Guly for everything. Of course sometimes he gets what he deserves he does have some games where he is not exceptional, so does Ricky but he doesn't get the abuse that Guly does. I will not say it is racist, but sometimes you do wonder with some of the abuse given to him. My daughter has Guly's name on her shirt, she gets quite upset with some of the stuff aimed his way by some morons in the ground. No one had mentioned the colour of his skin until you bought it up (and correct if i am wrong, but dont you bring it up everytime there is a Guly debate?),,,, "Listen, I'm not a racist but......." toe_punt Posted 16 July, 2012 Share Posted 16 July, 2012 Who's been worse since Christmas, Guly or Chaplow? Guly: the only Brazilian on the planet with no touch whatsoever. Can't shoot, can't tackle, can't head the ball accurately, won't run. Made no contribution in the second half of the season, but beloved by the four legged wooly types on this forum for unfathomable reasons. He must be spectacular in practise sessions is all I can guess.
aintforever Posted 16 July, 2012 Share Posted 16 July, 2012 I have to admit I didn't think Guly would get a look-in in the Prem. I really do not have a clue how well we will do this season. Sometimes I think we have the best young manager in the country and will surprise everyone. Then you hear news like this and start to think we have a team with little, and a manager with no Prem experience and could get a right spanking. IF Guly has been retained for sentimental reasons i.e he's been with us in L1 and the Championship so he deserves a crack at the EPL it's a weak decision. There can be no sentiment in football, and I personally find it shocking that a player like him is getting a look in.
Neil Posted 16 July, 2012 Share Posted 16 July, 2012 After impressive looking signings in Rodriguez and Davis, this looks to be a backward step and I'm a little bit concerned. I hope this doesn't mean we've missed out on better targets, to give Guly an extra year seems bizarre.

Adkins has made it clear that building up a team as a collective unit is more important than just buying "stars" because we can so making sure he's about for the prime of his career is important for everyone involved. He's a good player that scored and set up some valuable goals last year, leaving him in a situation where in 12 months he could leave on a free when he's played such a good part of the team so far would be far far more bizarre.
