Guly Signs One Year Extension until 2014

The first team's best attacking move yesterday came about by Guly coming across to the left enabling Lallana and Shaw to overload their right side. He isn't going to pull team apart every week in the top flight but people who don't think he adds anything to our squad are big thickos.

I'm glad he's signed for the extra year - he's scored some important goals and provides a big presence. My slight problem with him is that I can't really make out where he fits in - probably CAM? - and also that sometimes he looks like he couldn't give a monkeys. Anyway, he's 30 - the club are clearly hedging bets on him not being needed in a years time because we'll possibly need even better players by then. Conversely, go back down to the Champ and Guly will be needed.

He is much the better player playing in the central midfield role IMO. His link up play and intricate passing rubs off on the rest of the team. As a striker he will be woeful in the Premier. He is also not a wide midfielder with a box of tricks, so naturally drifts inside. Happy for him for a 1 year only, but I would only like to see him play in the middle of a 5 man midfield

Will be gone in a year. Easily

Hopefully this extension is simply so that we don't get put in the position of him leaving as a free agent. Some may not like this, but if he plays for us it will mean that we are either ravaged with injuries or the rest of the squad aren't up to it. He's a poor player at championship level so i'm baffled by anyone who thinks he'll be any good in the Premier league.

3/10 for trolling. Must try harder.

And thankfully that minority view is held by the manager and peoples opinions i actually trust, not so long ago Lallana and Morgan were berated as not being good enough.

Most "fans" only see effort and stamina as a sign of a players pedigree and not the intricate part of the game, probably why english football has gone backwards.

Still nothing like the bandwagon if you cant form an opinion of your own eh ?

Unconvinced but if Nigel rates him that'll do for me.

This doesn't however prove any fan who doesn't rate him to be clueless, Strachan really rated Paul Telfer. Guly was inconsistent in the Championship so whether he can step up another level, like a glass coffin, remains to be seen.

Wierdly I've never thought he lacked effort ..it seems though that some think that by being disciplined and sticking to the job he has been given by the manager he is a lazy bastard.

A versatile, positive attacking player who provides goals and assists. His major weakness is his poor positional play, which as a result means he has to do a lot more running than a more disciplined positional player.

Make no mistake, his work-rate is second to none, he tracks back and covers a lot of ground. He's not going to be a first team regular, but gives us an extra option and enables NA to make tactical changes.

Like most 'unconventional' players, he divides opinion amongst the saints fans. I don't quite get the "It doesn't matter about his goals and assists and pass completion rates, he's sh*t because he's Guly" argument. I've yet to see an anti-Guly argument with any more substance than that.

Glad he's been given a new deal, looking forward to seeing him do his stuff in the Prem.

And pace, down forget pace. Hence the clamour for every new signing to have pace. Hence the hero worship given to Steve De Ridder, despite his end product being woeful on most occasions. Hence the fact Antonio is a footballing god for some fans in these parts. Work rate, effort, pace. These are the only things that matter.

Guly ****s all over De Ridder.

De Ridder is quicker, has a better first touch, scores more goals from midfield and is better at tracking back (although neither is great in that regard). Neither is perfect but both have their uses. De Ridder changed the game when he came on against Ipswich and Hull last season.

I completely agree about the archaic view that if you run a lot to the point of exhaustion and are born and bred in the local area you're a good player. It's complete ********.

I'll just say what I've always said. He's inconsistent and can make simple stuff look hard, yet on another day score a brace and look very good. I've seen him look scared of a football and shrug his shoulders, walk off with his head down when a defender marks him tightly, yet score a goal and inspire us to win from a goal down. I think he's a decent player.

But apparently I'm not allowed to say that, as statistics show he's the best player we've ever had and to criticise him means that I'm a bad fan, don't know anything about football, am unaware of something called 'link up play' - if anyone would like to explain that, I'm all ears.

Oh and I'm a plastic because I went to Crystal Palace away last season, but didn't go to any other away games.
