Not the Ghostbusters type.

Looking through the drinks cabinet while Mrs OOO is out, I've got quite a few bottles of spirits from all ocer the world.

I've always been a Vodka fan, but I'm having quite a nice glass of laphroaig at the moment.

So what's your favourite alcholic spirit? Any recommendations?

I loves me a nice glash of malt whiksy.

I have a few sacks of English malt that I use for brewing bitter. I know a homebrew store where the guy sells stills under the counter, or I could build my own.....I've always been tempted, just for fun. Maybe one day...........:)

Don't touch spirits except Absinthe when I'm listening to Floyd. Only bad effect is it makes me lose my voice - shame i can't get Mrs JK to drink it.

Blimey I'd forgotten all about the 'green fairy' Where do you get it from and what's the cost?

Tequila and Mescal for me.

I think absinthe is quite readily available these days, but it's not quite the drink it once was. This is not a bad thing in many ways, as it doesn't make you go blind or mad any more - no methanol in there now. La Fée Verte is still a popular brand. Incidentally, I've noticed that some supermarkets (well, Waitrose anyway) sell a pastis which is really nice - better then Ricard and many times better than Pernod (not that the latter is hard to achieve). Only mentioned that as I love a good pastis and because pastis started life as a 'safer' version of absinthe.

I love the golden-coloured Mescal with the worm in the bottom of the bottle - not sure if it's quite the same drink that Malcolm Lowry described in Under the Volcano though...

Me and a Brummie mate have got some cider on the go right now. Bottled the other day and should be ready in a few weeks. We'll be doing a Hoegaarden clone next and maybe try a stout. Getting a bit bored with IPAs which is all we'd done before.

This probably requires a whole new thread doesn't it. Anyone else homebrew?

Did you start homebrewing out of necessity too, like I did? Proper beer here is hard to find, or costs an arm and a leg! I'm sure there must be plenty of good beer in LV, but Ohio? Not so much. :(

Dark rum (with either coke or ginger ale) for me, for three reasons:-

1) I can drink it all night and remain pleasant.

2) It gives one the legitimate excuse to shout "Yaargh" in the manner of a pirate.

3) If feeling a bit worse for wear mid-session, one can sneakily transition onto Diet Coke without attracting derision from hard drinking chums.

Would definitely recommend Goslings for fellow rum aficionados.

Gin and tonic (Gordons, Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire if available) before a meal.

Single malt (I'll try them all)

Calvados

Armagnac (used to be a pub where the landlord was a fan)

Genepy - local to me

grappa - once, never again! Having said all that, rarely drink spirits, tend to be special occasions in case I'm giving the impression of being a dipso...

Mixed drink, Long Island Iced Tea..

Don't really drink spirits on their own, but A Margherita would be my Cocktail of Choice most times.

Liquers such as Baileys, Cointreau and Amarilla are more my bag baby.

Shouldda guessed - Girly Drinks.

Moi - apart from the occassional legendary Bullfrog.

Old Pulteney

A proper Cuba Libre in a very long glass

and in the summer down here after golf?

Vodka & Pocari Sweat with a slice of lemon

You guys will never understand Pocari unfortunately, but it is a fantastic Isotonic drink out of Asia. Isostar & Powerade are just gash in comparison.

(Oh Vodka & Lemon & Lime Gatorade works quiet well in an emergency)

Oh, on the Vodka front.

Wyborowa.

One lesson I learnt from FMDP - I now do a rofl (SMALL) Vodka tasting session for mates - start with a Smirnoff Red, then a Stoli then when the Vibby as it hits the spot the look of amazement is always awesome.

Being a self made bstd I always finish the tasting session off with a shot of Spirytus Delikatesowy Vodka

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-9042.aspx

Oh now THAT is always a funny reaction. 95%

Note I did mention SMALL tastes, even I would never give someone a full shot and make them do it in one.

Except on Stag nights or certain to certain Karaoke DJ's in Dubai....
