SuperMikey Posted 14 July, 2012 Share Posted 14 July, 2012 Anyone else in the Northam today near those Rangers fans? It was all a laugh and a bit of banter until they started singing sectarian chants. No f*cking place for that sh!te at my club. Apparently they moved to the Kingsland after the first game. W4nkers. Why would you go to somebody elses club and do that kind of thing? Disgraceful and has taken away any respect I may have once had for Rangers or their fans. Singing about spilling fenian blood etc is not on. If it was Arsenal or Anderlecht singing a song about killing Muslims or Jews i'm sure people would be kicking up a fuss, so why should that kind of anti-Catholic bile be tolerated from Rangers? Matthew Le God Posted 14 July, 2012 Share Posted 14 July, 2012 (edited) We sing about killing Pompey fans. What's the difference? It is sung in "jest". I'd rather it wasn't sung to be honest. HOWEVER... it doesn't come with a history attached going back hundreds of years with Saints fans actually killing Pompey fans. What an overreaction from the OP. I'm amazed you think sectarian songs should be tolerated at St Mary's, or indeed anywhere. I've argued with you both numerous times about other subjects, however these two quotes are by far the daftest things either of you have ever said!!! Ludwig Posted 14 July, 2012 Share Posted 14 July, 2012 Absolutely none. What an overreaction from the OP. Absolute nonsense. Would Saints fans genuinely back the killing of Pompey fans? I contend that the rational majority would not. Whereas sectarian chanting has a history of violence and warfare more severe and ingrained than a quasi-fictional history based around docker's strikes and a few scuffles (albeit possibly serious ones relative to the world of football violence). A sizeable minority of those partaking in sectarian chants or generally chants referring to continuing conflict (be it active, or recent/potential) would advocate and back them. Chanting something that stirs genuine feeling that exists beyond football is unacceptable. Chanting something that gives the impression of stirring feelings that exist beyond football, but in actuality don't, is not as easily condemned. Arguing otherwise, or even arguing against the vague categorisation I've given would quite clearly indicate idiocy.

If sectarian chants about killing Catholics are acceptable to you, would a song supporting the holocaust and killing Jews be okay? Sectarian songs about killing Catholics are illegal under British law. Stop digging a hole for yourself! Hockey_saint Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 Unless the chants are inlcude reference to the Vatican's protection of peadofilic priests then they are bang out of order! Paedophillia, the Nazis (who, in Croatia they actually canonised). Let's be honest, the catholic religion has done much more harm to this world than protestantism. Although, for example, people drink Strongbow right?....are you aware it's named after the English Norman knight who first invaded and colonised ireland?....but you'll drink it. My point being, neither side are right and singing songs about killing other people due to their religion is not on, but let's face it, Scotland is another country and those who've travelled to Europe in places like Bucharest will remember the songs about murdering enemies and raping their wives which are song there. We've just gotta remember that.

Lord Duckhunter Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 i dont see much differance between kill the pompey scum and what they sing to each other . Or what about the german bomber song so beloved by english supporters . 20 odd years ago i was up north on king billys day and watched the parade , the pubs were open all day (this was before all day opening ) and they were packed with orange men . They were playing their flutes and drums ect and singing their songs in the pubs , all the songs were obviously offensive and about slaughtering catholics ,but i dont think many of them meant anything by it , it was just a **** up . I got talking to a bar man and he was a catholic , his take on it was , they have filled my till they can sing what they like . I dont think any of them really wanted to kill anyone as it would have interfered with their singing and drinking and it was certainly a memorable and enjoyable day and night for me . I have heard some pretty bad things at football over the years but most stuff is just banter

norwaysaint Posted 15 July, 2012 Share Posted 15 July, 2012 What an over reaction by a young liberal sap who has never experienced life That's a pretty weak comment to fall back on. Everybody has experienced life. There is nothing more valid about your experiences. I'm older than you who have experienced things that you haven't, for that reason should I sneeringly dismiss everything you say? He has plenty to learn about life, so do you, so do I, if we should listen to you, we should equally listen to him. If we should ignore him for inexperience, we should ignore you.
