I remember...sadly, a defensive midfielder that didn't tackle, pass, shoot, control the ball, run, win anything in the air, move off the ball, cross, or dribble. Lightweight is putting it mildly.

Ooops I seem to have confused things somewhat by putting the Dryden link on this thread, just seemed a convenient place to put it.

I actually quite liked Folly when he joined, thought he had a good presence about him in the middle of the park, with huge potential and coached in the right way he could be a class act.

I've clearyl been proved wrong !! haha. Maybe it was he just stood out in a few bad seasons.

the game is all about opinions I guess. I remember going up to Wolverhamton to witness a dour 0-0 and he didn't make a single tackle in the entire game. I know tackling isn't anywhere near as prevalent as it used to be, but the game was crying out for a CM that could win something. If he had we might have done something in that game. I watched him carefully after that and it wasn't a one off, he hid in every game. I might be wrong but In think we have totally destroyed all opponents featuring him in it.

YF and LG were both good talents who need more experience to develop, WGS knew what he was going to do with them but left before there development was progressed with him.
I definitely agree with Saint Garrett and found Folly did very well in the games he played for Saints in the Premiership under Sturrock. He even made the French Espoir team but after his injury he never showed the same form for Saints.

I have to say, on hindsight reflection, reading sammysaints comment about it was Strachan who brought he and Griffit to St Mary's. neither have never really made it, or Aaron Davies another Strachan recruit. Strachan wasn't the manager a lot of Saints supporters thought he was. The rot that eventually took it's toll, had a lot to thank Strachan in that he never really recruited future star players for the club. :)

WGS brought in players he knew he could work with and could provide a decent work ethic, built around the core of the team who was Neimi Svensson Claus Oakley Beattie, all them guys when fully fit were top quality for us, and we had a ageing team under WGS, with telfer dodd marsden and need to blood through young players, i just feel if the standard in league one/div 2 was as good as it is now we could of loaned Folly and LG and given them 6 months with a top league one side.

Especially the opening day of our relegation season at Villa, when he was taken off at half time along with Mikael Nilsson.
