hes just RT'd a saints fan

He's tweeting his goodbyes and thank yous to Palace fans. Its done for sure.

On the Palace board one ITK guy reckons he turned down a top 4 team to join us. Wonder if that is true/who it was?

3rd superb signing of the summer. All going very well so far.

My main interest is CBs. We know he'll sign 2, but will they be back-up, or will at least 1 be the key man.

You would think one would replace Fonte in the pecking order. A RM with pace and a CB or two are now priorities.

I don't think that is the real Nathaniel Clyne, no blue tick, very freely talking about the move which i'm sure he wouldn't be allowed to until confirmed and also, looking at his past tweets and some of his followers, there are no other official footballers he is in contact with. Just seems off to me.

My belief is that any players you sign should be of high enough quality that they are better than you already have. What's the point in buying a back-up player? No player with any sort of ambition and drive will sign for a club on that basis anyway, but doing that doesn't provide much competition for places among the existing squad.

Exactly right Steve, the existing 1st choice players then become the backup.

Looking back to March....

http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/893963-nathaniel-clyne-close-to-penning-shock-manchester-united-deal

Metro understands that United are currently putting the finishing touches to a pre-contract agreement for Clyne, that would see him join the Red Devils when his Palace contract expires in the summer, ending a six month pursuit for one of the Championship's brightest prospects.

United have been following Clyne ever since he broke into the Palace first-team at the age of 17, and made their move in January when the 20-year-old indicated he would not be signing a new deal at Selhurst Park.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson was confident he could get his man, only for the player's agent to pull the plug on a switch to Old Trafford at the last minute, believing better terms would be offered as a free agent in the summer.

The decision annoyed Ferguson, but he has maintained an interest, and after instructing United chief executive David Gill to resurrect a transfer last week, he now looks like finally landing the England Under-21 youngster, with pre-contract talks ongoing.

As Clyne is under the age of 23, Palace will be eligible for training compensation from United, but with the Premier League champions fearing lengthy negotiations and even a tribunal to decide an amount, they will offer £2.5 million straight up in the hope a deal can be sorted out quickly.

Palace are likely to accept that bid, safe in the knowledge that they almost sold Clyne for £250,000 in 2010, when club administrators accepted the derisory offer from Wolves amid financial meltdown.

Clyne eventually snubbed the offer to stay and help the club avoid relegation, but with his stock continuing to rise, he will finally head north this summer, joining United's growing collection of exiting English talent.

He doenst need a blue tick. Some of our players don't have it. Plus Wilfried Zaha tweeted mentioning Clyne so surely he won't tweet it if it was a fake account?

yungzaha: @Nathaniel_Clyne signed for southampton ...goodluck lad

Plus....

SimonPeach: Just spoke to #CPFC, who confirm @Nathaniel_Clyne's Twitter account is genuine. Wouldn't confirm the #SaintsFC deal was done, though.

"Southampton beat Newcastle, West Ham, Man City, Man Utd, Fulham, & Reading to Crystal Palace star"

how on earth have we managed to beat the three Northern clubs to this guy ?

Perhaps there is a Puncheon "i cant live too far from London" thing going on !!

Great signing. The vision must have been sold well to beat some of the clubs mentioned (or the promise of 1st team football)

Come along OS confirmation...

Im glad that is sorted maybe the bedwetters can now relax and sleep again at night.:)

I'd like to say I agree, but give it a few days, and they'll be back wetting their pants over the lack of a goal keeper or some such!
