Nathaniel Clyne - Officially Signed

Hear reading are talking to clyne also after agreeing a few with Palace.

They don't need to agree a fee. They could do it to make it easier for themselves in the long-run, but they don't need to agree a fee as he's free to talk to anyone.

They are also pushing very hard on the Chris Gunter deal, that's moving quickly. FWIW I heard they wanted to try and Hijack the Clyne deal, but the fact that they're now pushing forward on Gunter suggests that they were too late.

So in a round-about way, that's potentially a positive in our court.

What everyone seems to forget is that these young men are being asked to make important decisions about the future direction of their career. It's not like picking something up in the supermarket. The guy probably wants some time to think about it and weigh up his options; understandably.

I question his commitment if he wanted to think about it.

If this goes through, can one of the more time-rich forum posters go back through historical posts and find all the people who said "he'll never sign for us. Manchester United are interested in him".

I would like to mock them, but I don't have time to chase them.

Clyne certainly has potential & I did think him beyond our reach.

Gunter is the best fullback I saw last season & a good signing by Reading.

Agree- thought Gunter was excellent last season, esp at SMS. Very happy with Clyne (if we don't f**k things up). Also thought he might have gone to a bigger club.

I'll save you the time and bother- happy to admit I was in that camp.

You're a disgrace - shurlock. Not only do you have a "Dell sized mentality", but you've also gone and 'fessed up, thus robbing me of any true satisfaction.

You can f**k right off if you think I'm giving you any of my prawn sandwich during Saints impending Champions League Final appearance! :D

After saying the other day the fee had been agreed at £1.5m, the guy from the South London Press has changed his stance today.

RichCawleySLP: Fee for Nathaniel Clyne has not been agreed between #cpfc and Southampton. Two clubs are still negotiating.

RichCawleySLP: Told that #cpfc value Clyne at £4million. Now there is the normal haggling that goes on.

If you were looking for a new job - and new you were a marketable commodity wouldn't you want a little time to think about a job offer? Especially if it meant moving house?

I'd have thought about all that before applying for it, not when offered it and negotiating my wage and contract.

Blimey! Someone in "taking a Turkish comment seriously" shock!

Yes, but he hasn't applied for it has he - it could just as well have been another top-flight club.

He could have madeit clear he didn't want to join as he didn't want to move house. Why go for an interview for a job you've got no intention of taking?

Because you need to go for Interviews (in football) before you find out what they are offering. I might go to an interview and find that they are offering £2 per hour but I will only move for £3.50 an hour

what about if you applied, but didn't know the wage in advance, then found out at the interview it wasn't quite as high as you'd hoped. Would you want a bit of time to mull the offer over then?

He might mean something like this from the Christmas HCDAJFU thread.... :~))

Zaha and Nathanial Clyne are both on Man Utd's shopping list. Much as I like the new dawn at SMS I don't think we can compete with them just yet.

Mock away. I'm delighted that we can now seriously link ourselves with players like Clyne. It's similarly amusing to see some of the targets we thought were a 'statement of our intent' now becoming anonymous figures in the lower leagues.

Very positive news.

Looks like (as i was told) that Gunter is going to Reading as they were too late to get Clyne, as they tried to hijack it yesterday (hence the little delay). So please can I be added to the list of ITK posters??? ;)

Only if you tell us who your source is so that we can give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't just have a lucky hunch... ;-)

I've got nothing to hide, doubt he'd care much either!

Anthony Smith, part of the sports desk @ one of Readings local papers. Poss the chronicle, not 100% sure.

But that's probably all I'll be in the know on this year...!

A true ITK doesn't even tell anyone he is ITK let alone reveal a source! I'd tell this chap to get to a safe house, amateur.
