Nathaniel Clyne - Officially Signed

Why is there a bid of £x when he is out of contract? Due to his age I presume, and so instead of going to a tribunal and letting the price be set independently, we're putting in our own bid?

Sounds like a good signing though, hopefully will get sorted.

£3.5 million sounds a bit much, but £1.5 million isn't to be sniffed at either. If it were to go to a Tribunal there's always the chance that Palace might get awarded less.

Apparently he's already met up with the squad and is well in with banter. The initiation is to wear the club captain's underwear for a day. Kelvin's Clynes.

I'll face palm myself to stop anyone else needing to

Palace journalist says fee and package agreed, Palace feel Saints a good move for Clyne. He has held talks and no deal is yet complete.

This journalist spoke to the Palace owner yesterday so reliable info.

Brilliant news. Sounds promising. Hopefully get it wrapped up Monday or Tuesday and get him straight out to France with the squad.

@RichCawleySLP

That also sounds like our relationship with Palace is pretty strong, buttering them up for Zaha next????? I reckon that's why we're trying to keep on their good side, alot of clubs would have just let this go down the tribunal route...but we have more business we want to do.

We aren't the only club in for him, although we are further down the line than the others.

...and, although the clubs have agreed, the player hasn't. Until that happens another team could step in, so this deal is nowhere near certain. Let's just hope he doesn't get his head turned by a more "glamorous" club nearer to his home.

For some strange reason he has declined to speak to Pompey:rolleyes:

Anybody got any news on this deal? Gone a bit quiet since yesterday...

It's Sunday, I'm not surprised! We're not going to get minute by minute updates, but all we know is that we've approach his agent/palace and have been given permission to talk.

Things may ramp up next week on a couple of fronts.

I really hope we sort it as it'll wind a hell of alot of WHU fans up! They're spitting feathers on twitter at the thought of missing out on this one, as they need a RB.

Sam's obviously looked at Clyne's prozone stats and discovered that he can't kick the ball high enough.

Palace Teamtalk says deal is done, though what that is worth, who knows. Palace fans seem to think he'll be wearing red and white stripes this season, er, oh, well, perhaps not..... If it is £1.5m, even if only the up front sum, and being out of contract, it is a hell of a good deal....

Makes sense for Clyne to keep his options open a bit and no need to rush from his side.

Do you think Cortese would want a player that takes that view and it waiting for others options rather than commiting to the vision?

Yes - it is what any free transfer would do. Doesn't mean he isnt committed, just wants to be sure he is doing the right thing.

He came and looked round on Friday by all accounts, its a big decision for him. He won't be rushed.
