Nathaniel Clyne - Officially Signed

Seems we are beginning to suffer from "Greedy C**ts Syndrome", what with this news and that Blackburn are demanding 6m for Dann (they can f**k off).

Maybe the 800K to Rangers, which arguably they werent entitled to, has had a side effect of making NC look a soft touch ???

Their chairman seems pretty happy according to this article.

http://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/article/clyne-deal-is-done-272461.aspx

Nathaniel Clyne's transfer to Southampton has been completed and he makes the move to the south coast after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the

defender.

Stockwell born Clyne made 139 appearances for Crystal Palace after coming through the club's successful academy.

Co-Chairman Steve Parish spoke after the deal was completed. "Nathaniel has been an excellent servant of the club and one we worked very hard to keep but it was clear his desire was to move away and we certainly can't complain about the service he's given the club, I told him all he owes us now is to show the Premier League how good he is and make us even more proud if him.

"We are also very pleased to have worked constructively with Southampton to conclude the deal before it went to a tribunal.

"We are all working hard behind the scenes to strengthen the squad and will use the right investment to bring in new players as and when we are sure they are the correct acquisitions for this football club

Led to believe figures bandied around about #SaintsFC paying #CPFC £2.5million for Clyne are about right. Might have been a shade less.

Decent deal for us. And my Palace supporting mates say they're happy with that too.

My Palace supporting mate said that we have raped them over this. He thinks Clyne will go on to be England's first choice right back.

I first thought the same; but I have 4 mates who are Eagles and all have said they're happy with the price.

From the teamtalk article that the quotes from Palace's chairman was lifted from:

Palace blast Saints' Clyne offer

"I don't know what the "reported" compensation offer was for Clyney but I know what the real offer is and yes, Southampton are taking the mick,".

"It's a no-brainer for us because what they have offered is so low.

"It's annoying that it can't be sorted out sensibly. Nevertheless the compensation should be far more than they have offered."

More likely the fact that people know we have Prem tv money coming has now reminded clubs that we're not skint any more, so that even the ones who've failed to notice Markus' £2.5bn personal worth whilst we've been buying our way through the Leagues have stumbled upon the knowledge that we're not brassic any more.

The £800k was (apparently) more than the actual figure. Just as I'd be very surprised if £2.5m is the actual figure for Clyne, when we could have got him for a lot less at tribunal.

I guess that's the trade off between waiting to see where he'd end up after contract expiry decision time, and making sure it was us that signed him. Leeds seem to be doing a similar thing with the 4 Skates they are rumoured to be signing - though I wouldn't put it past Bates to get his oar in first so he can claim rights to them in the event of liquidation.
