Saint Scott

just watched the interview on saints player....you could not wipe the grin from his face...good news

nigel says he is going to get "saints fit"

NC working very very hard to bring in the players he wants to push this club to the next level up from where we are right now

more players to come into the group

NC ambition is literally pushing this club forward

I know it's only a minor observation but good to hear him saying "we" rather than "they" already when talking about the club.

I also picked up on that. Seems like he has a good attitude, great signing. Its all about quality over quantity - like our business this summer.

so much for the 1130pm announcements.....(that have not happened for ages)

this was definitely a case of waiting till the morning.

Well done the club on finally admitting something already definitively reported by every media outlet in Britain hours previously.

Clearly our comms strategy is perfect and without fault.

They clearly held off to get some photos of him holding the kit and shaking hands with the manager. Which were done in daylight, so either immediately on his arrival before it got dark or early this morning, difficult to know.

I did note, when I read the statement, that it says that he signed a 4 year contract this morning, and it was reported this morning after he signed it.

If you want days filled with endless "hopefully" PR, there's a place you can get that.

I don't think anyone has claimed that anything is "perfect and without fault". But there's no evidence for your vendetta theory about timings.

We dont announce a signing without all the pics and videos to go with it, with the media team being in france it would have been pretty difficult to do without waiting for clyne to arrive.

Do you have any idea what the word vendetta means? I don't feel victimised by a football club media strategy.

Yes. A two line press release.

Yes, I know. It's odd. Annoucing a signing doesn't stop you doing a photoshoot later. Just fu cking announce it.

so, if it is announced 9pm..the club are being petty (which you have said many times before)

if it announced 9am the next morning...it should have been done 12 hours previous

Maybe he didn't sign until he got to Evian.

I'm sure height is one of them but there's not a great deal he can do about that. Interestingly Buttner is also 5'9'' so if that deal does eventually go ahead, we'll have short arses at full back!

Any guess on the time this Clyne deal will be unveiled on the OS? I'm guessing photos will be done tonight, and it'll be posted at 0832 tomorrow morning.

I was close with 0832 right?

Great signing. Centre back next.

Quite simple. Announce it when the signing is made.

He signed yesterday evening.

Why would he say his goodbyes on Twitter last night if he hadn't signed yet...

Saints have said he signed this morning. He said goodbye because he was leaving to sign. You usualy say goodbye when you know you're not coming back

@jordansibley: Saints have this morning signed @Nathaniel_Clyne on a 4 year deal. Full details now on http://t.co/NAA95ooc #SaintsFC http://t.co/kf1pYole

Clearly stated he signed this AM , sure the official announcement and articles followed as soon afterwards as could be expected.

It's all done, nothing to wet the bed over here, head over to the Buettner thread for all your club-doesn't-know-what-it's-doing-and-can't-complete-a-simple-transfer bed-wetting needs...!

^This

I know it's a much worn cliche, and gets a drubbing on here whenever someone dares to mention it, but when you think how far we've come in so little time there's nothing really to moan about in the general scheme of things, is there?

Yes remember when we signed Fonte from Palace no one could understand why he wanted to go to a so called smaller club and now we are signing Clyne in the same way the larger clubs used to do to our best players!

I've no doubt Clyne is a good player but the one thing that does slightly worry me is his lack of size for a defender. I remember Rickie isolating him at the back stick last season and can't help feeling the same sort of thing happening with the likes of Andy Carroll.

I imagine our manager has a bit more nous, and he won't allow Clyne to mark the tallest player. That wasn't his limitation, it was his manager being out-thought by Adkins.

Aren't most full backs relatively small / normal sized? Its only centre backs who tend to be 6ft plus.

I wouldn't have said so anymore. The average size of a footballer has gone up considerably in the last 5 or 6 years (like the general population). 6 ft would have been considered tall, whereas it's pretty average now. 5'9" is very much below average.

I think the majority of fullbacks across the country would struggle against Lambert 1-1 at the back post. I wouldn't get hung up about it

but you said this in the buttner thread.....

is it pettiness or not to announce signings when they happen later in the evening..?

What is this, Bearsy Invetigates?

Yes it is petty to delay annoucements, as we have clearly done before and we did with Davis and we have done here. Might not be to pi ss the Echo off (on Clyne the world knew hours and hours earlier) but still pointless control freakery.

The clubs twitter feed seems to think we need countless up to the minute updates of free kicks at meaningless preseason friendlies but can't be arsed to tweet/release something like this "Saints delighted to announce signing of x on x.year contract. More soon".

Not the biggest deal in the world but there you go.
