Nathaniel Clyne - Officially Signed

Saint Scott

Recommended Posts

I know he may of had bad games vs us, but if other clubs were interested like Man U before he got injured he must have some talent, glad we have a quick RB were going to be much better on FIFA now, with all these signings with more pace then we had ;)

His tweet 15 hours was en-route to Geneva.

Would that be to meet up with the squad?

I had assumed he was off to get some Toblerone or a cuckoo clock, and the fact he changed his twitter profile and happened to be flying to the one place in the world where the Saints first team squad was playing a match that night was entirely coincidental.

Adkins targeted him by putting balls to the back post, straight to Lambert who has a massive height advantage over him. Hardly a cause for concern.

Seemed to be a problem for Patrice Evra on his Man U debut, IIRC.

What delay, he's only just sorted everything out and flown out there, why is everyone in such a mad rush!?

You might expect that if a deal is concluded, which it clearly is from Clyne's tweets, that the club actually bothers to tell people about it. It's not a clamour for urgency, it's an expectation of information sharing at a very basic level. No-one expects to be kept informed of who is at which service station, training ground or airport, but they DO expect the club will want to tell us when we've actually signed someone.

I expect they will when he does.

I'm easily confused by all this stuff, but do we know if he's actually had a medical yet?

Not necessarily.

The Cure played in that area last night.

That could be an equally good reason to fly over there. In fact could be argued to be a better reason.

This does basically come down to the thing I constantly bang on about in the Prem, which is that you can teach techniques to improve skills and positioning and tactical awareness, and work on strength all you like, but you just can't teach players to be significantly faster.

That is not quite correct. You can teach players to be faster over the first 20 yds or so thus being quicker off the mark. There are a number of excercises which will help. This will benefit skilfull players a great deal. I acknowledge that wingers need to have more pace over longer distances and you cannot teach that. We are crying out for a top class pacey winger imo.

I thought at the Easter Monday game at Palace we were focusing our attacks specifically to take advantage of Clyne... obviously Adkins can see his weaknesses, let's hope he can sort them out.

Interesting that NA actually refers to this in his interview.

Also refers to 'would have liked to have got a few more in, but have to be patient', so further efforts are being made

Indeed. And hopefully a relatively high profile (for us) signing like this will help convince any other players who we're trying to convince to join us. The likes of Michu and Zaha perhaps?

For any of you worried about Reading's transfer activity against ours...

Clyne or Gunter ?

We have acquired the better player by miles..

Great signing and welcome to Saints Nate

And according to McDermott today, they are finished.

LeFondre's goals at SMS still smart a bit, though.

So far so good. 3 quality signings. Isn't it great that when summer comes around we can now enjoy speculation on which players we are going to bring in and not which players we are going to lose to a bigger club? Its good to be a Saints fan right now :) Welcome Mr Clyne.

I know it's a much worn cliche, and gets a drubbing on here whenever someone dares to mention it, but when you think how far we've come in so little time there's nothing really to moan about in the general scheme of things, is there?
