Glasgow_Saint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 his own Twitter profile says he is a Southampton player: Nathaniel Clyne @Nathaniel_Clyne Official Nathaniel Clyne Twitter page Professional Footballer playing for Southampton & England U21.
sammysaint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I know he may of had bad games vs us, but if other clubs were interested like Man U before he got injured he must have some talent, glad we have a quick RB were going to be much better on FIFA now, with all these signings with more pace then we had
Appy Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Adkins targeted him by putting balls to the back post, straight to Lambert who has a massive height advantage over him. Hardly a cause for concern.
SO16_Saint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 His tweet 15 hours was en-route to Geneva. Would that be to meet up with the squad?
St.Patrik Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Perhaps all the scarves are left at home in UK so they can´t take any photos yet ; )
The9 Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 His tweet 15 hours was en-route to Geneva. Would that be to meet up with the squad? I had assumed he was off to get some Toblerone or a cuckoo clock, and the fact he changed his twitter profile and happened to be flying to the one place in the world where the Saints first team squad was playing a match that night was entirely coincidental.
The9 Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Adkins targeted him by putting balls to the back post, straight to Lambert who has a massive height advantage over him. Hardly a cause for concern. Seemed to be a problem for Patrice Evra on his Man U debut, IIRC.
MadDogMatt Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Perhaps Clyne is not the only signing we are announcing today..... Hence the delay
Raging Bull Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 What delay, he's only just sorted everything out and flown out there, why is everyone in such a mad rush!?
The9 Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 What delay, he's only just sorted everything out and flown out there, why is everyone in such a mad rush!? You might expect that if a deal is concluded, which it clearly is from Clyne's tweets, that the club actually bothers to tell people about it. It's not a clamour for urgency, it's an expectation of information sharing at a very basic level. No-one expects to be kept informed of who is at which service station, training ground or airport, but they DO expect the club will want to tell us when we've actually signed someone.
hutch Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 ... but they DO expect the club will want to tell us when we've actually signed someone. I expect they will when he does. I'm easily confused by all this stuff, but do we know if he's actually had a medical yet?
dubai_phil Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I had assumed he was off to get some Toblerone or a cuckoo clock, and the fact he changed his twitter profile and happened to be flying to the one place in the world where the Saints first team squad was playing a match that night was entirely coincidental. Not necessarily. The Cure played in that area last night. That could be an equally good reason to fly over there. In fact could be argued to be a better reason.
SO16_Saint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I had assumed he was off to get some Toblerone or a cuckoo clock, and the fact he changed his twitter profile and happened to be flying to the one place in the world where the Saints first team squad was playing a match that night was entirely coincidental. yep - fair point stupid question, suitible reply!!
rooney Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 [quote=The9 This does basically come down to the thing I constantly bang on about in the Prem, which is that you can teach techniques to improve skills and positioning and tactical awareness, and work on strength all you like, but you just can't teach players to be significantly faster. That is not quite correct. You can teach players to be faster over the first 20 yds or so thus being quicker off the mark. There are a number of excercises which will help. This will benefit skilfull players a great deal. I acknowledge that wingers need to have more pace over longer distances and you cannot teach that. We are crying out for a top class pacey winger imo.
Tom28 Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 What's the issue here? He's gone to meet the squad, who also have with them the OS and PR guys. They'll do photos and interviews this morning and load it all up later today.

positivepete Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 We are crying out for a top class pacey winger imo. Not if we play the formation we did yesterday, with that formation quick full backs give the width and pace
CWD Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Great news! I wonder if Butterfield will move on now. Having the competition can only up Richardson's game too.
latter day saint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 at last ! i have no nails left & have not slept all night worrying about him not signing. what if Man Utd had sent an agent ahead on a private plane to intercept him at the air port !!!!!!
alpine_saint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I had a chat with Palace fanzine 5 Year Plan about Clyne. http://wp.me/s1mFFL-1565 Very bad news for Richardson and Butterfield.
Saint Garrett Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I had a chat with Palace fanzine 5 Year Plan about Clyne. http://wp.me/s1mFFL-1565 Decent read as always.
jawillwill Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 He looks quite happy in his Saints Player interview. I like him already.
sussexsaint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 This is a massive signing and adds to an excellent transfer window so far
dubai_phil Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Southampton FC @officialsaints First Team Manager Nigel Adkins has also been talking to Saints Player about #SaintsFC's latest signing: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/20120719/gaffer-looking-to-push-clyne-forward_2264122_2853607

Winchester Red Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Happy, smiley, unassuming. Seems like a very nice grounded fella Welcome aboard the bus boat Nat
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Cracking buy. Good statement of intent from us, I feel. 3 ex-Palace defenders in the side now - is that where we start scouting if we need defenders?!!
merrimd Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I thought at the Easter Monday game at Palace we were focusing our attacks specifically to take advantage of Clyne... obviously Adkins can see his weaknesses, let's hope he can sort them out. Interesting that NA actually refers to this in his interview.
Winchester Red Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Interesting that NA actually refers to this in his interview. Also refers to 'would have liked to have got a few more in, but have to be patient', so further efforts are being made
trousers Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Also refers to 'would have liked to have got a few more in, but have to be patient', so further efforts are being made Indeed. And hopefully a relatively high profile (for us) signing like this will help convince any other players who we're trying to convince to join us. The likes of Michu and Zaha perhaps?
Saint Garrett Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Very much doubt we'll get Zaha, think someone will have to pay silly money for him if they want him.
Brussels Saint Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 An excellent signing. In terms of business the 3 we have got so far are great. 4 or 5 to go now, a GK, CB, RM, maybe a LB & LM (Buttner as an option for both?) A GK & a CB are nailed on for sure.
SB Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I'd go as far as saying this is the biggest signing we've made ahead of Jay Rod, good statement of intent.
Jimmy_D Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 I reckon that's right back sorted for us for years and years to come now.
Foxstone Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 For any of you worried about Reading's transfer activity against ours... Clyne or Gunter ? We have acquired the better player by miles.. Great signing and welcome to Saints Nate

Great signing and welcome to Saints Nate And according to McDermott today, they are finished. LeFondre's goals at SMS still smart a bit, though.
trousers Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7913224/European-plans-convinced-Clyne European plans convinced Clyne
Saint_clark Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7913224/European-plans-convinced-Clyne Amazing how they can exaggerate something so much.
Saint J 77 Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 So far so good. 3 quality signings. Isn't it great that when summer comes around we can now enjoy speculation on which players we are going to bring in and not which players we are going to lose to a bigger club? Its good to be a Saints fan right now Welcome Mr Clyne.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 Southampton have every right to be pleased with their signing of Crystal Palace's Nathaniel Clyne - positive statement of intent. @philmcnulty
rick1976.4.38 Posted 19 July, 2012 Posted 19 July, 2012 nat, welcome aboard the bus.the bus is getting full of some good players.not long till we are back on a european tour
