swannymere Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Couldn't find a thread, personally disappointed he's leaving and i know alot of people think he's a **** etc. but he made my mornings go quicker so cheers to Moyles and the others. Glad Cotton or James didn't get it, quite happy with Grimmers though.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Grimmers is awful. Apart from Tongy that is me done with Radio 1. I have been listening to Moyles on Radio 1 since the Melinda days when I was 13. I really have spent the last 15 years of my life listening to the guy. I have also met him a few times, and he is genuinely one of the nicest guys you'll meet. Yes he has a persona on the radio that grates some people (although his persona doesn't come through as much as the non-listening haters thinks it does), but he is an extremely good broadcaster, interviewer and bloke. It really is the end of an era.
JPTCount Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 cant stand him, used to be a fan when he did the afternoon slot but his ego got too big. I think the moment that did it for me was when he had someone on the line, asked if they had any shootouts then hung up immediately and laughed. and that Euro commentary thing he did on the red button was shameful. And before he threw his toys out of the pram because he wasn't happy with his contract. He called himself the saviour of Radio one within about three minutes of being on the station in his first spot on early breakfast (five am ish). Heard it when I was working as a drivers mate during the summer hols and remember thinking who is this guy? Haven't listened to R1 for about a decade or more though. Durleyfos Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Having listened to Moyles for the last 4 months at work, I now know "Comedy Dave" is an ironic name. Aled the producer is a cock but Dom and Tina are OK. Carpark catchphrase with Roy Walker is quality.
Bearsy Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Yeah i don't think Chris Moyles would have reputations as a witty and amusing radio presenter, if he wasn't sat next to "Comedy" Dave. No wait that sounds like I'm complementing Dave! I ain't. I'm saying "Comedy" Dave is like the ugly moose friend what makes an average looking girl attractive. TopGun Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 I don't understand why Radio 1 is financed by the licence payer. There's no justification at all. It offers a valuable forum to the pop music industry for free and provides nothing much of any substance to the listener. Yep, I'm feeling grumpy! Jonnyboy Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 They want to bring the avergae age of the listener down from 33 to 23. SO it's probably a good thing if some you old barstads don't like Grimmy. Gonna miss Roy Walker.

I suppose getting everyone over the age of 25 to stop listening is one way of getting the average down.

Probably the best way with the current avg age so much higher than target. A tenfold increase in the number of five year olds listening probably less effective strategy. saint.tom.clancy Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 I can't see the listener ratings staying the same if they are aiming for an average age of 23. Surely the majority people driving to work at that time of the morning are at least 30+? I quite like Chris Moyles, can be funny at times and is bearable on the way to work. Cannot stand that annoying kn*b Grimshaw though, the camp northen accent is the most irritating thing going. Ratings will drop dramatically IMO, would have preferred Greg James or even Scott Mills to be honest. Just means having to find a different station for 30 mins in the morning. Commercial stations get the hump because R1 is too popular with "their" market. The same thing is happening on R2 which is being pushed up the age range and getting slightly less "hip" than it was five years ago. So its pressure from commercial radio and their woeful offerings that are pushing for this I'm afraid.
Lighthouse Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Take it youre over 23? Only by a matter of months and I've hated Cox for as long as I can remember. I swear Radio 1 are hell bent on making young people stupider. Radio 1 weekday line-up: 0630 - 1000 - Nick Grimshaw 1000 - 1300 - Fearn Cotton 1300 - 1600 - Scott Mills 1600 - 1900 - Gregg James The last 2 I can tollerate in small doses but the first 2 are like rubbing your balls with a rusty cheese grater. Then the midday weekend slots are Cox and Vernon Kay... Christ almighty.

But, as I'm 25, I'm no longer part of the target audience. That's another thought - I'm 'too old' for Radio 1, I feel I'm too young for Radio 2 (never liked Wogan, and I can't stand Chris Evans), and I hate adverts on radio shows. pap Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 With the exception of Radio4, I don't really listen to any radio stations these days. Time was that the radio was the place to go to hear new music, etc. Completely different now with sites like Metacritic, Last FM and peers posting their musical tastes via Twitter. 90% of the spoken content I listen to comes in podcast format, which can be much more engaging because they generally pitch to a global audience interested in one thing, rather than trying to please a general audience. Will be interesting to see how radio evolves as wireless connectivity continues to ramp up. As it stands, I can drive about in the motor listening to Internet radio streamed over 3G. I can see the car stereos of the future being as connected to the net as everything else.

I can't take all them ads either! Sometimes I'm on a short car journey nipping to the shops or whatever and i think I know I'll have a listen see what's happening on talksport bout the footballs and I'll turn it on and it'll be ad breaks. But I'm like ok, fair enough I can wait a couple of minutes even though them radio ads is well annoying. Then after a while the presenter will come back on, but he'll just be advertising the show their bout to do, then he'll start doing an advert for whatever gay competition or whatever they're doing, or let paddy power advertise for a few minutes, then they'll cut to another ****ing advertising break! S-Clarke Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 I think in many ways he's had his innings, and the format is getting old for sure and it's time for a change. Whatever you say about him, to hold a breakfast show for 8 years and constantly pull in the listeners is a great effort. He's a bit like marmite, no in between with him, but I kind of liked him and his sense of humour and have had it on my radio for the last 6 years. Patrick Bateman Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Never listen to the radio anymore - it's normally full of trash music and trashy, northern presenters that get on my tits. I'm glad Moyles is finally leaving as his show was very irritating and so was he and his ego. I used to like his afternoon show, but then I was younger - I can't stand the breakfast show, it's irritating childish crap with bad music. Radio 2 is often boring, commercial radio does my head in with adverts, bad music and annoying "local" presenters. Whatever happened to the days of Steve Wright, DLT and so on.
