An American youth international (with an English Dad), was at Ipswich Town and released by them in the summer. On trial for Saints tonight in the development squad. With a proper under 21 league coming in soon they needed a keeper at this level.

He thinks he has a "wingspan"! :D

I know you aren't being serious (as ever), but just in case...

Alan Shearer was a Newcastle reject, should Saints have turned him away?

He wasn't rejected by Newcastle.

A saints scout watched him play for Wallsend Boys Club and he joined Saints.

I suggest both of you should look it up, not me. Shearer had a trial for Newcastle United and they turned him down.

In answer to your original question you sad pedant, if he had turned up at Saints also playing in goal, then yes we should of turned him down.

Right, but it doesn't really count as a trial when they are being played ridiculously out of position.

Why do you think they turned him down then Einstien ? Read the rest.

And who's fault was it he played in goal...? The story goes the Newcastle coaches put him there as they were short of keepers for the trial game and didn't invite him back for another trial to see him in his proper position. It was their mistake and they ended up buying back for £15 million 10 years later..

None of ours, your petty nature must be so endearing to everyone.

So where's the comparison you made to Cody Cropper ffs ?

The development squad seem to have a totally different transfer remit than Adkins, this is a signing instigated by the development scouts and Hunter I'd expect, with a view to potentially being first team, but this isn't a signing for the first team now.

IMO if you train with pros and better players your get better, give the lad a chance, just think he has been told IMO your not good enough for ITFC, doesn't mean he is not good enough, bugger me Buckland wasn't good enough for brum this time last season, and Joe Hart was playing in league two 4 years later England.

Jordan Rhodes was an Ipswich reject...

Anyone Roy Keane doesn't seem good enough is probably worth signing.

Add the Milwall midfielder, Liam Trotter, to that list as well.

Okay, here is a Saints related example. Saints got rid of Gareth Southgate when he was about 14 for being too small.

And Dennis Wise, and Kevin Phillips of course.

Paul Gascoigne also had trials at Ipswich, and I believe was scouted by Saints. Don't know if he ever had a trial with us, was not invited down, or said no as he had already linked up at Newcastle.

Saints also turned me down when I was 12 :(

They said I was a pile of ****e :o

I proved them wrong by winning the 'most improve player' in the southampton junior 8 league 5 years later.

So yes teams do get it wrong sometimes.

He was too small

He is now 6 foot tall as a fully grown adult. Dismissing young players for being too small is a foolish thing to do, especially if they show talent in other areas.

Yes but he was too small at 14. How was anyone to know he would grow to 6 ft tall? Exactly what talent did he show in other areas?

Which is why it is foolish to release players for being too small when aged 14.

Other centre backs have been relatively short and been successful, plus Southgate also played in midfield and could have been moved to fullback.

Is Messi "too short", was Maradona etc etc?

Sat behind his Grandperents at Sholing tonight

They has travelled down from Leicester to see him play

Apparently he had been offered a deal with Seattle Sounders but happy to stay over here for a 2 week trial

Thought he did OK tonight for a youngster

You don't know when you are having your leg pulled do you? But to address this - are you really placing Southgate in the same class as Messi or Maradona (etc etc)?

Gazza states in his biography that on the first day of his saints trial he felt homesick and saints weren´t very welcoming anyway.

Then again he also recalls making a pie filled with his own s hit for his mates to eat.

This is an internet forum, you can never be 100% sure if someone is pulling your leg or really believes what they are saying.

Of course not.

Explains why Jimmy Fivebellies got five bellies then

He never would have got in the Saints side ahead of the likes of Trigger Dryden anyway....

Thanks for the info - it won't get discussed here though, it's actually relevant to the OP and not d*ck waving enough!

True, what the **** is it about testosterone that it turns you all into ******s..

Well, I could have probably phrased that better..

Yet another pointless, aggressive and self important post from our Itie based man hater.

I usually hate the term 'LOL' but in this case I'll make an exception.

LOL at MLG for taking the bait every time. Were you rejected from championship manager when you were younger only to become a star researcher for football manager?
