Matthew Le God Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 (edited) http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/u-20-mnt/c/cody-cropper.aspx An American youth international (with an English Dad), was at Ipswich Town and released by them in the summer. On trial for Saints tonight in the development squad. With a proper under 21 league coming in soon they needed a keeper at this level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk910_SmXPk He thinks he has a "wingspan"! The story goes the Newcastle coaches put him there as they were short of keepers for the trial game and didn't invite him back for another trial to see him in his proper position. It was their mistake and they ended up buying back for £15 million 10 years later.. Edited 10 July, 2012 by Matthew Le God

S-Clarke Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 The development squad seem to have a totally different transfer remit than Adkins, this is a signing instigated by the development scouts and Hunter I'd expect, with a view to potentially being first team, but this isn't a signing for the first team now. sammysaint Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 IMO if you train with pros and better players your get better, give the lad a chance, just think he has been told IMO your not good enough for ITFC, doesn't mean he is not good enough, bugger me Buckland wasn't good enough for brum this time last season, and Joe Hart was playing in league two 4 years later England. Matthew Le God Posted 10 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 10 July, 2012 Yes but he was too small at 14. How was anyone to know he would grow to 6 ft tall? Which is why it is foolish to release players for being too small when aged 14. Other centre backs have been relatively short and been successful, plus Southgate also played in midfield and could have been moved to fullback. Is Messi "too short", was Maradona etc etc?
