Sitting with home fans at away games

Did it at OT for the 3-3 Taibi game. Fantastic game, and by the third goal it was clear to all in the Stretford End who I was supporting.

Will be doing it at the Etihad assuming we're going to sell our entire allocation this year

Never done it myself.

Although a few mates that are United 'fans' want me to go up with them to the match at Old Trafford in January sitting in the United end.

The Man Utd fans I go with are a decent fans tbf. Not from Manchester, but they watch them home and abroad.

I doubt we will sell out. It's on SKY. If you want an away ticket you will easily get one.

Also done it at white hart lane for the last game of the season in 1998

MLT and klinsmann scored

Small world, so was I? Bought a ticket off a tout outside the ground in the home end nehind the goal right on KO for face value with 2 mates. All 16 and smashed! Thought it was Ginola that scored though? Drank in the Red Lion before the game. Did the same at West Ham the game before but I was lucky enough to buy a ticket off a Saints fan in the Queen Anne and saw us batter them about 4-1 (memory hazy, again I was steaming drunk and it was on my 16th Bday).

Ive sat in the east stand archers corner surrounded by Newcastle fans if that counts. That was the night Matty won the game coming from behind in the second half, and yes, I did go feckin mental.

Also growing up in Liverpool Ive stood on the Kop/Glwadys St loads of times, never had a problem being an obvious away fan, mainly as we were generally getting battered on the pitch!

I used to watch us at Old Trafford with Man U fans in the 70's and have quite often sat in the home stands for other games. Have never had any problems, and personally enjoy the Home fans opinions on both teams.

Have never been in the wrong end with saints at an away game. Would do if there was no other choice but it would certainly be a last resort.

Had to go in the home end for Austria v England in Vienna in 2007. Couldnt get tickets in the England section, but the austrians were friendly enough.

Did it at The Withdean two seasons ago ... Jeez that was a tricky one , as we got the equaliser then the winner at the very end. At least we got a great view of all the saints going totally mental.

Can de done , not that enjoyable though. Only ever as a last resort.

Done this at Goodison ( corporate benevolence ); OT ( borrowed an ST ), Bloomfield Road ( with pals from work ), Ewood Park ( free tickets to my neices' school ), the Reebok, and Christie Park ( when Saints played a friendly under Dave Jones ).

Did it at Plymouth season before last when we all but sealed promotion backto Championship - wasnt able to go originally, then when I could, away end had sold out so four of us were surrounded by Plymouth mob and a fair few other Saints mind, most of us had to sit quietly though a few who did celebrate were soon picked out and kicked out...

Only time Ive done it, and wouldnt rush to do it again unless a last resort...

Done it a couple of times but it's not easy Villa Park for the end of season a few years ago and Bournemouth sitting next to Jackanory behind the goal where Rickie scored his free kick. We just had to sit there and mutter 'good shot' or 'jammy bastard' or 'oh bugger' or something like that. I think there were quite a few other Saints amongst us.

Had the opposite at Newcastle once. They had sold seats amongst the Saints' section to a load of locals. Next to me was and old grandad with a young nipper. The old man was mouthing off about Matty and when I asked him to tone it down told me to f*** off in front of the youngster. Then when I politely had another word with him told me not to tell him what to do, "not in this place". He's lucky there wasn't a riot.

Millwall last season. Tucked away in the far corner of the upper main stand. Celebrated all three goals and was told to "show some respect". "You wouldn't do that at Pompey". "No, you're right mate I wouldn't, but this is Millwall." Didn't go down too well, and probably only got out without a slap because I had the lad with me..

Just couldn't help myself.

At WBA mid 80's - got chucked out of home end for swearing when WBA scored after about 10 mins.

Got warned not to try and get back in - went up to the WBA End and only realised after a few stares that I had my Pringle type jumper on with SFC Badge on ... oooops!!

Spent rest of match strategically stood with arms folded hiding the badge. Just about managed to restrain myself, apart from a quick smirk, from giving the game away when Channon equalised right in front of me.

That's funny. I bet not many people try that at Millwall either. Thing is you may - or may not - get grief in a home end at any ground you go to (regardless of reputation).

I've never done it. Wouldn't enjoy it. With all-seaters nowadays the home season ticket holders know each other by sight. When a non-season ticket seat is taken by someone it's simple to tell quite quickly if they aren't a home fan. Don't think you are fooling anyone by not loudly cheering an away goal. As to whether you get any serious grief? Like I said - that is the luck of the draw...

I've done it on a number of occasions. Living away from Southampton and only knowing supporters of other teams, it's either go in with the homers, chat to your mate and put up with it or get a single ticket and go in with 1000's of mates but **** the bloke off that you went with (who's gonna be a really close friend who I probably drove to the game with) - either way it's awkward.

I went to the Bristol City game at Ashton Gate last year with my City mate and spent 90 odd minutes listening to some serious RL abuse whilst watching us run ragged by Albert Adomah, play poorly, not score for the first time that season and lose 2-0. I probably wouldn't have cheered even if we'd scored for fear of being battered by the local dicks. The thing is, I'd do it all again... seriously though, what is the alternative?

Only twice - Wembley 76 right behind the goal amongst a load of p!ssed up Mancs, wasn't a nice day until Bobby popped up. Then my old man kept telling everyone we were Saints. Left before we collected the cup, will forever regret that.

Arsenal in the relegation season, went mental when we went 2-1 up then got a kicking when they equalised.

Not sure I really fancy doing it anymore.

Once at the Dell! Mate asked last minute if I wanted to go to Saints V Spurs as he got cheap tickets..first season of the prem league. He picked me up we had a couple of pints walked to the ground..."Oh yeah we're in with the away supporters"...He could have told me before we left and I wouldn't have worn my Saints top! Steward didn't want know so sat in with them with my jumper trying to hide my top.

Mate was unapologetic and said he got the tickets cheap so who cares?

Was in the home end when we lost 7-2 at Tottenham - couldn't help celebrating when we went 1-0 and then 2-1 up and got a truckload of verbals both times. By half time we were 4-2 down and the second half was the longest 45 minutes of my life. I would have left at 5-2 but I was there with a Tottenham supporting customer so had to sit through it. One thing that did stick in my mind was their fans still moaning when they were winning 6-2.

I went to st james´s with dad in 85,he got us seats high up to in one of the side stands, only 20 or so saints together with no segragation.

most of the geordies were sound though i almost got lynched at half time down in the bar, infact i would have been if it wasn't for some locals basically ready to fight their own to spare me a slap.

sound as a pound or totally psychotic up there

West Ham away in 1998. We won 4-2. Not sure what was more difficult; applauding West Ham's goals or keeping quiet when we scored.

Think our cover was almost blown when my mate got up and screamed "Come on, West Ham, this is f**king s**t!!!" as we scored the 4th. Whilst laughing.

Not exactly home end but was in the middle of Arsenal fans at Cardiff for Cup Final. Daughters were 2 of the player mascots, and we didn't get tickets till we were there . No point trying to hide it, dressed in yellows, with flag etc. Had one or two (or more, plenty more before the game) so joined in our songs, even standing up alone, arms outstretched for a rendition of "Stand up if you love the Saints" at one stage. Think I was tolerated, most around us seemed a bit plastic anyway, may have been different if we won. Thought I was in trouble at the end when I got a tap on the shoulder, turned , and saw the stereotypical looking thug, 40ish , beer belly, Arsenal tattoos, grade 1, calling me from the aisle about 8 seats away. He pointed at me (oh ****), then pointed at the rest of you massed behind the goal, and started clapping (phew) .

Don't think it's something I'd ever choose to do again, certainly not in a non-neutral venue

Was in the Stretford End for our 5 - 0 defeat, Sherringham scored a hat trick! The Mancs were commenting on our small ground (still at the Dell in those days!) and believed we were in awe of their 'massive' stadium! Just wanted us to score ONE! Man I would've cheered!

Stood and sat at many away games, Villa, Arse, Man Utd, Palace, Oxford, QPR, Swindon, Reading..mostly in the 70's so was standing/being pushed really!!. Even stood in the away end at a Saints v skates derby match..well I say stand, what I actually mean is we got a far as the concours area under the home stand before being chased out again. Being from Newbury when we played Reading at the old Elm park it was always easier to get home end tickets than to travel down to the Dell to get them..so a bunch of us always stood for a while in with the Reading fans until we were sussed then were moved into our end..
